A great base from which to explore La Provence.

  • 4 of 5

Sophie Cayzac's vacation apartment provides an ideal, affordable location from which to explore Arles, Avignon, and the many sights of the Provence. While its location in the village of Paradou contains just one (expensive) restaurant, it is close to St. Remy, Mausanne and other small towns with many restaurants and eateries offering that fine Provencal cuisine.

We took advantage of the apartment's kitchen to prepare a number of meals, especially breakfast and dinner. A small but surprisingly well-stocked (including with local wine!) grocery store, a bakery (with delicious specialty items and those fine French baguettes) and a butcher shop (with a most pleasant proprietor greeting all customers in a sing-song voice) are just around the corner.

We found all locals to be friendly and welcoming of English-speakers; in fact, many speak at least some English themselves. If we had questions, Sophie enthusiastically provided plenty of answers, especially regarding where to go and what to do. During our stay in mid-September, 2016, we followed her advice for touring the Luberon and Camargue areas and were glad we did.

Sophie's apartment consists of a roomy living room and kitchen, a bedroom with large double bed and a bathroom with shower. It contained plenty of glassware, dishes and silverware, a full-size refrigerator, a four-burner cooktop, a dishwasher, a sink and all we needed to make coffee and tea. We were almost sorry that it was too warm to light a fire in that enormous stone fireplace.

Apartment near Les Baux

  • 4 of 5

A spacious, nicely renovated, clean one bedroom apartment in Le Paradou, near Les Baux.

We were able to get to Les Baux, Luberon, Arles, Nimes, Saint Remy de Provence. It is a good base for the area.

There is a kitchen, and we cooked most of our meals. A few small additions like potholders, vegetable peeler & another kitchen towel would have made cooking easier, but we managed.

I would also recommend an additional towel in the bathroom.

It was hot during the day, but would cool down at night. The apartment is on ground level, so on occasion, a little noisy, but not too bad after 11 pm.

Overall, a good place to stay in the region.

Owner's Response: To my next guests , I live nearby when you need something...Please ask instead of writting that a vegetable pealer would be apreciated !!!!! As the apartment is right in the center of the village , shops corner of the street , all convenience on foot distance..... and as the photo shows the location on the border of the road, consider that there are cars , of course . .....Or rent in wild Camargue.

Village gem in Paradou

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved Sophie's apartment and wished we stayed longer. The location was perfect and Sophie suggestions were fabulous. We were also invited to the village festival and spent time with our hosts and their friends. They made us feel so welcome and the generosity has been a highlight of our European vacation. Can highly recommend this apartment.

Nestled in a Beautiful Village

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay in this budget friendly and very clean property. The host, Sophie, was very personable, knowledgeable, and helpful. The town of Paradou is beautiful for evening walks, and the very famous Bistro du Paradou is in close walking distance (made famous by Peter Mayle, "A Year in Provence"). The bistro was a highlight of our trip and well worth the 123 euros we spent there.

This is not a fancy property but provides an authentic village maison experience. All the appliances and plumbing were in excellent working order and the bed was very comfortable. The only drawbacks were the loud slamming of the gate by the neighbors, the lack of outdoor space, and the dimness of the interior.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your comment, surely the restaurant is so famous that the prices are famous too.!!!!! the old typicall Provence houses are dim this was, the protection against summer heat....a long time ago, it is cool inside and refreshing on your way back home after visiting. . I put a lot of lamps inside the apartment is under the shade of large plain trees that are centuries old with a lot of leaves from May to September .They fall in winter giving a brighter ambiance inside. There is no outside ...The price is considering the lack of outside seatting area , at the mean time, located on the border of the street , outside would be noisy and uncomfortable , the Alpilles all around are the garden as well as Camargue

A great base for touring Provence

  • 4 of 5

This was a very nice, large apartment with easy parking access right across the street. Sophie was very helpful and had lots of material on hand to help plan your days. Paradou itself is pretty boring and the apartment could use an outdoor space, but is close to Arles, Nimes, Les Baux, Avignon and even Ste. Marie de la mer (about an hour drive). Don't miss the light show at the Carrière des lumières near Les Baux. It is something special. Also, try to go to the nearby market in Eygalières. It was one of the best outdoor markets that we went to during our six weeks in France and Italy. Around the corner from the apartment, the butcher was top notch and the small grocery store had everything we needed. Mausanne was a five minute drive away with several good eating options.

Absolutely charming apartment

  • 5 of 5

I absolutely loved Sophie's apartment. I wish I could have stayed longer. It is so charming and comfortable. Paradou is a great location to stay for exploring the region. It is very close to some of the more touristy villages & towns so you can spend the day "out and about" and return to this lovely, quiet sanctuary for a good nights sleep. There is also a parking lot right across the street with plenty of space and it is free. This was my first trip to the south of France & I enjoyed every minute of it. Sophie is a gracious host and I enjoyed meeting her. I hope to return to her lovely apartment and bring my husband with me next time. He'd love it too. I highly recommend staying in Paradou for a true southern France village experience. It's beautiful and the people are friendly. The Carrieres de Lumieres in Les Baux de Provence is a "must see". Merci Sophie for your kindness and hospitality.
