Very comfortable for our multi generational group, ages ranging from 2 year olds to grandparents. The hosts have thought of everything to make it a very enjoyable stay!

The house is PERFECTLY set up for guests! We had 6 adults and a dog, and it was plenty of space. The house had everything you could possibly need. The only warning I'll give, if you bring a dog, be alert and keep on a leash, the neighbors had two dogs that run off leash and charged our dog a couple of times (nobody was hurt).

Wow!! What a nice well cared for home. Made you feel right at home. Love the family photos and history!! We had so much fun in such a short time. We will stay longer next time and soak up more fun. So much to choose from: great fishing, swimming, great dinners in town, many nearby towns to hop and shop, hiking, biking or just relaxing at the cottage.(which is so easy to do). We enjoyed our stay. The cottage is clean and super well equipped! Our hosts thought of everything! The kitchen has all the equipment you need. There are games, marshmallow sticks, extra blankets, a boat, bicycles, life jackets in all sizes. I could go on and on. Plenty of space for a group. Suitable for families with small children. Claudia was available and responsive. I liked learning about the family through pictures on the wall and other informative materials. It was a very nice vacation.

The cottage was perfect for our family of 6 with plenty of room. The focal point is the large great room opening to the kitchen and the enclosed porch. Mullet Lake access was great and directly outside the door. The lake has a sandy bottom and is great for swimming. We enjoyed using the provided rowboat for some great fishing. The cottage is near the mouth of the Indian River and this area was great for fishing. Another great find was the North Central State trail with nearby access that was great for morning walks. Our favorite dining spots included Station 310 in Indian River and Breakers in Topinabee. For coffee we visited Wildwood Coffee in Indian River.

Cottage on the Lake

I had looked and looked for the perfect place to stay and was excited when I found The cottage in Grandview on Mullet Lake! Everything was perfect… Even the weather! The cottage was clean and in perfect shape, we enjoyed our evening fire right on the lake, taking the Row boat out, and being so close to other sites and places we wanted to visit! Our host was great and we can’t wait to go back!

A home away from home.

What a great place. It was like having our own vacation house. We had everything we needed ... and then some. The house is clean, cozy, and located right on the lake. The little peninsula we were on was just about empty, so we had the whole area to ourselves. The water is crystal clear, and the bottom mostly sandy. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would love to go back again one day soon.

Grandview Beach is wonderfully tucked away and perfectly located for our trip to Mackinac Island. The cottage is spacious, clean and adorable with touches of family history throughout and has absolutely amazing lake views. The home has an old family feel, making it warm & nostalgic, which we loved. The kitchen is well-stocked, as is everything in the home, with many extras - linens, games, puzzles & essentials. Our kids used the row-boat, enjoyed the bikes and the neighborhood is great. Our family made wonderful memories and had an enjoyable stay.

Beautiful cottage on Mullett Lake

Our group of 6 adults, one infant (and one puppy) had a wonderful long weekend on the lake. Everything that you can possibly need has been provided. The photos are accurate, although I would say the place is even more beautiful than the photos. Claudia is a fabulous host and answered every question immediately, along with a welcome note and gift card. We will definitely be back!

n 1963, John and Helen Vala loaded up their six children and their Springer Spaniel, Babs, into their station wagon and headed north 325 miles to a cottage on Grandview Beach right on the shores of Mullett Lake. That first visit to Grandview Beach was magical for our family, and my parents purchased that quaint two-bedroom cottage shortly after. The cottage has been in the family ever since. John and Helen named the place Vala’s Villa as a tongue and cheek title for the very modest summer home. We spent entire summers here; leaving the day school got out and heading back down to Detroit on Labor Day weekend. We treasure the memories of those days: being on the water sunup to sundown, boating, fishing, biking, hiking, swimming, and socializing with all the other families on the beach amidst the beautiful backdrop of pristine waters, grand trees, and bountiful birds and forest creatures.

The quaint two bedroom cottage is now an updated four-bedroom summer home. After countless cherished memories made by a big family and our friends, I am now the proud owner of Vala’s Villa with my sister and daughter. Our two families cannot utilize the cottage to the extent we would like, and we would love to share this wonderful space with other families looking to experience the joys of Northern Michigan. We hope during your stay that you experience the same magic here as our family has over the years.

What makes this property unique

The cottage is conveniently located just off I-75 Exit 313. We are 30 minutes or less from other area attractions such as Mackinaw Bridge, Petoskey, Harbor Springs, Cheboygan with lots of activities for all ages. There are restaurants, ice cream shops, boat rentals just a short car ride away or you can just watch the eagles, sandhill cranes, hummingbirds and more while you swing on the hammock.
