About The Owner

We enjoy our lake home very much! We have another Lake Home and decided to rent this one - as we have decided to keep both in the family.

The Owner purchased this house in 1989

Why The Owner chose Aitkin

Location was great - not too far of a drive from the Twin Cities with great roads. Close to Mille Lacs Lake for some great fishing - close to Brainerd for great entertainment. The best thing is Round Lake is a great lake, just the right size, not too busy with a lot of other boaters, it has a sandy beach with very clear clean water, and great swimming for the entire family. We are located in a great bay with very few other property owners.

What makes this house unique

The tranquility of the lake and sunsets are just amazing. It is hard to explain until you have experienced it. The sandy beach, quiet lake, swimming, and just soaking up the sun on the dock or relaxing by the fire in the fire pit are so enjoyable. The large lot makes it nice to enjoy other lawn activities while still enjoying the water. Also, watching the resident eagles soar and osprey dive for fish add to the total enjoyment of the lake experience.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Karen & Doug

We really enjoyed our stay at your cottage (Michigan for cabin) on Sept. 9-12, 2017. Everything was well presented, clean, comfortable, and relaxing. We had enough sun, and just a little cleaning and clearing rain, as well as pleasant temperatures for that time of year. The canoe was great for me to do a little paddling around the bay and the hiking adventure to Cuyuna Recreation Area was really wonderful (had we waited a few weeks for the color, that would have been spectacular). Everything said, we would like to be back again when we make another trip “up north.”

Doug and Karen have a very nice place! The lake is so clean and clear and you can catch fish at the right time of the day. Close to many other lakes too! Doug and Karen are right next door and very helpful. They even brought over a bottle of wine and some cigars for my husband and me. Such a nice cabin! Fully stocked with EVERYTHING you could think of and some things you wouldn't (egg poacher!). There is no air conditioner, but only 2 of the days we were there were super hot and we just went shopping. Once the sun was down, it was fine, so many windows and fans make it super comfortable. We really enjoyed the Dish satellite TV as well! We haven't had cable in years! Jack Pine Brewery in Braxton, was probably the favorite place, about a 30 minute drive from the cabin and The Curio shop in Garrison is super cute for trinkets and souvenirs. Thanks again for everything Doug and Karen!

Are 5 stars enough?

  • 5 of 5

For the past 5 or 6 years we have stayed at various VRBO properties across Minnesota and we gave most

of them an "excellent" rating but Karen and Doug's property raises the bar for us! This place far exceeded our expectations! The very comfortable cabin, breathtaking views, exceptional hospitality.........really everything about our stay was perfect! We especially appreciated the use of the boat lift for our boat, level elevation to the lake, and nice wide dock. Karen and Doug go to great lengths to make you feel comfortable and welcome. This will absolutely be our first choice for staying again in the future if we return to this part of the state!

Hard to beat! Great lake setting and such gracious hosts/owners. 5 Star all the way!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at the cabin in early June was an absolutely wonderful experience. I think we would have been hard-pressed to find anything better.

The cabin comfortably accommodated the 6 of us (4 adults and 2 children). Not too large, not too small, just right. The dinner table easily seated all of us and we used it nearly every night. The kitchen was well stocked with the gear needed for cooking and it was nice to have the grill. Two full bathrooms is definitely a plus with 6 people. And having the extra pull out sofa meant our teenage boy and girl did not have to share a room :-). Internet was a bit weak/spotty, but you could get to a spot to get signal if needed - and anyway, the point should be to try to get away from all of that.

The outdoor spaces (decks, hammock, bonfire area, lawn) were all inviting and were all utilized each day. The lawn games were fun and helped vary the activities. We even brought our own makeshift badminton set that we put up between some trees. Having the canoe and paddleboat was also a plus - as we could use them to fish (which we caught many, but released all), explore the lake, or paddle over to the nearby sandbar. Even though it was early June we could swim - perhaps it was unseasonably warm, but that was a bonus. Watching the beautiful sunsets and hearing the loons in the evening with a fire in the lakeside fire-pit created memories we will not forget.

Thanks to the gracious owners for sharing this slice of tranquil beauty! If a northern MN lake vacation is ever in our future again, this is the first place we will check.

A beautiful week!

This is the third time we have returned to this cabin. The cabin is very clean and the property is well maintained. The sandy bottom beach is great! The sunsets are incredible and we have enjoyed the view from the water, next to the lake by the fire and from the cabin. We also love exploring around the area. There are a lot of options near by. The owners are wonderful hosts! We would definitely come back.
