Built in 1901 by some of the earliest settlers in the Lake Wenatchee valley, this unique log home has been lovingly owned and maintained by their direct descendants ever since. All the hand built charm and rustic beauty are intact, but now coupled with amenities such as electricity (1920s) indoor plumbing (1940s) and high speed, fiber optic, wi-fi (2008). Most recently, we've remodeled the kitchen/dining area to a more open floor plan, and the downstairs bath just because… well, it really needed it. And we added a hot tub. Aahhhhhh.
The homestead occupies 15 private, peaceful acres and is a destination of its own, or a fabulous base camp for the area's many outdoor activities. It's only 25 minutes to either Steven's Pass or Leavenworth. Without even getting back in the car, you can cross country ski, snow shoe, sled, hike, bike, swim and mountain climb. There are chickens laying eggs for your breakfast, and our horses grazing in the pastures. (Winter 2016/2017 update... the horses are down valley until spring, and the chickens went into the freezer. We will have chicks in April.)
The house is furnished with an eclectic mix of comfy antiques, many of which have been here for generations. It easily acommodates two familes (2 king beds, 2 doubles, and a full finished attic with 2 twins plus lots of sleeping mats and sofas so all the kids can crash.) When you settle in for that second cup of tea, you know you're nestled in walls constructed of virgin timber and built by hand without electricity or fossil fuel. The cozy feel of the house takes you away from the cares of modern life, and back to a simpler time.
The Brown Family Homestead is the perfect place to get away from it all and reconnect with yourself and your loved ones. Make it your second home, but without the headaches of ownership.

Greetings from the mountains!
I'm Karen Dickinson, and I consider myself lucky to be this generation's custodian of the old homestead. It's truly a special place, offering a direct link to another time, and another way of life. I'm committed to its preservation and to sharing it with the wider world.
I hope to develop an on-going relationship with a few families, probably from Seattle, who want to make the farm a regular part of their lives. As I am living just 1/2 mile down the road, I will be on hand to personally get you settled in and make sure your stay is a wonderful experience. Wanna learn how to preserve peaches? hear about the best trails and the hidden berry patches? swap stories about horse riding wrecks? learn how to get the eggs from under a sitting hen without getting pecked? Call me and we'll talk about having you up.
My family and I look forward to getting to know you and yours.

My group LOVED our stay at the Brown Family Farm! I took 10 people for a weekend away, and we had a blast. The house is so charming, and there was plenty of room for 3 couples and 4 singles, with room to spare. The newly remodeled kitchen is gorgeous, and the property is so scenic!
Some of the fun things we did:
-relaxed in the hot tub, which has a great view of the mountains
-fed the horses and chickens
-built a fire and spent the evening gathered around
-walked to Lake Wenatchee
-drove to Leavenworth for an afternoon
We really enjoyed being in such a quiet, peaceful space. Thank you so very much for making our weekend great!!
The owner was so easy to work with! Why can't all travelling be this fun! We hope to make this place an annual tradition, so close to the Lake...so far from traffic and noise. Great big kitchen for our large group to eat and cook in, loved the spa...thanks Karen!
The property and the owner made this one of our most memorable local getaways ever. The home is full of history and the pictures don't do it justice. Lake Wenatchee was an easy and beautiful walk away. Leavenworth, Plain, Cashmere were all close and offered us unique activities, dining, antiquing, pubs, parks, skiing, snowshoeing and more. Stevens pass ski hill had great conditions and was 20 mins away. We had 6 adults stay each night (11 total enjoyed the home at separate times) and there was still tons of space. The home itself is what made this trip. Very relaxing, lots of games, we skied down the hill on the acreage even!!, had a fire to ring in new years, and spent most the time sharing a drink by the fire with good friends while playing games. It was so relaxing to do nothing. We had a chance to feed the horses, check out the chickens, and play in the snow! Karen was beyond helpful (best I've dealt with in years of renting places) and the home needs to be stayed at to be understood.. Over 100 years old but great amenities. Thanks so much from all of us and our dogs who loved it too!!
Despite lack of power for 2 of our 3 nights -- our 3 generation group of 8 (grandmother, 3 adult daughters, a husband, 3 kids ranging from 5 to 19) had a great pre-Christmas stay. "Cabin" was spacious and comfortable. Plenty of communal space and still room to escape from it all.
Nice XC skiing and snow shoeing w/o getting in the car. Kids of all ages had fun making a sledding run and feeding the horses.
Karen was super nice and helpful.
Look forward to returning again when the hot tub is up and running.
My husband and I and our two kids stayed here for a week with his parents and we had a really great time! Karen was a pleasure to work with, very friendly and helpful. The property worked out well for us; we could bird watch every morning and the kids loved to visit the chickens and horses. We did some hiking and visited Leavenworth, as well as some wineries in the area. The house was large, and the downstairs was very open and the kitchen had lovely windows to look out as you cooked. We used the hot tub in the beginning of the week, when it was cool at night. It was great to see the stars while soaking. We will come again if we can find a time when it's available!
No kids, men or pets...lots of wine, great food and the best atmosphere you could ask for. This place is just magical. We have done several girls long weekends in a variety of places and by far this was our best experience. Karen and her family are just wonderful and you couldn't ask for more in terms of location and beauty. Loved the horse, chickens, cat and even the chipmunk that tried to join us. The kitchen is well stocked and that dining room table was the hub of our stay.
We vowed never to go to the same place twice, but we all agree that some vows are meant to be broken!
