Why The Owner chose Mauston

Our farmhouse is very dear to us. It has been in our family for over 130 years.

What makes this house unique

All our guests love to sit and read, have their breakfast, visit with family and friends, or just enjoy listening to the birds on the large front porch.

Guestbook comments from the owner

What a perfect "place" for friends to gather for a weekend of cycling through beautiful Wisconsin farmlands! The kitchen was of course, where we found ourselves "hanging out," which is so often the case. It is warm, roomy and well equipped - thank-you for that! The front porch was also a favorite spot to enjoy the early morning sights and sounds of the countryside. The dining room played host to two fine meals accompanied by good conversation and lots of laughs. We spent our days exploring the Sparta-Elroy Bike Trail and the country roads. Climbing the hills was definitely worth peddling on top of the ridges. The views were a sight to see. Thanks for sharing your home with many of us who hadn't had the experience of growing up in the country! Take care - We hope to return for more adventures in this bit of paradise.

Very relaxing and central

  • 4 of 5

We had a great week relaxing at the farm house! Karen is very friendly and helpful, and it was rejuvenating to spend time overlooking the planted fields and reading on the screened porch. The location was central to many things we wanted to do: bike the Elroy-Sparta trail, kayak in Wonewoc, pontoon on Castle Rock Lake, golf, and play in the Dells (Tommy Bartlett, mini-golf, Wild Rock Golf Course, and eat - twice - at the Cheese Factory). Things you might want to know that you can't tell from the website: 1) the beds are comfortable, 2) the bedroom that is pictured is roomy and also has a twin bed in it, 3) the other 2nd floor bedroom is charming and has a double bed, 4) the first floor bedroom is a bit cramped (the bed is up against the wall and there's a curtained-off stackable washer/dryer in the room), 5) all the bedrooms have large closets, 6) the road is close to the house (we slept with the air conditioner on so this only bothered us when were were talking on the porch), 7) the shower head in the first floor bathroom is very low (too low for the shortest of us - who is 5'4" - to be comfortable), 8) the second floor bathroom is cheerful and nicely decorated.

We thought the house was charming, a good value, and so much more comfortable than staying in a hotel!

Owner's Response: Thank you for visiting our historic old century farm house. It was a pleasure to meet you and your family, Liz. You were wonderful guests! I am pleased to hear that you enjoyed a comfortable and relaxing week at the farmhouse. Also that you were able to experience the beautiful country surroundings, and the many activities and attractions in our area. It is nice to know how much you enjoyed reading on the large screened in porch. It continues to be a favorite gathering place for our family and guests.
