Getting to Islita
If you are driving from San Jose expect to take between 4 ½ to hours from the Airport to the Villa, if from Liberia between 2 ½ and 3 to hours from the Airport to the Villa.
Car rentals are very close to the airport. Liability Auto Insurance is mandatory and the typical platinum credit card insurance does not cover. Check with your particular policy and be sure if and what is covered in Costa Rica.
Recently the country has become very serious about speed limit enforcement so don’t speed and be careful because the roads are narrow and passing opportunities few.
It is much easier to drive in the daylight -generally 6AM- 6PM all year.
Commercial Air service is available from Nature Air http://www.natureair.com/domestic-flights-schedule.html
An Air Charter is also available and takes about 40 minutes in a small plane. If you need to arrange a charter or want a quote I can assist with that. Please call me immediately so I can assist you. 715-330-3465.
Islita is a very small. There is a very small grocery store called a “Pulperia”
which sells a wide variety of basic food products as well as limited wine, beer, soda and juices, frozen foods and various sundries. Botton line you can find many emergency items however you should not rely upon the pulperia to fully stock the kitchen. There are a number of regular full-size grocery stores on the route most notably in Nicoya. We can provide directions to find those places along the route. Typically that is where we stop to buy all normal grocery items. The hotel will usually sell you high-quality meats and fruits but you need to give them at least 2 weeks advance notice. We will provide contact information to make that happen.
There is a small gift shop at the hotel which has some clothing items, candy, shaving items etc. It is best not to expect that you can shop for any necessary items there.
Catering. Chef services
We are independent of the hotel but all of the hotel services are completely available to you. All of the hotels restaurants, pools, activities are available to you. This includes catering services as well. This can be independently arranged with the hotel and is generally available except during the Christmas/New Year's season when they simply do not have the staff to accommodate private parties at all.
What's available in the Villa
Mariposa is completely furnished, has all appliances, bedding, towels, utensils. Other than food and alcohol you need to bring nothing but yourselves and a good attitude.
Washer/dryer/laundry service is not available. The hotel may be able to provide that service but you must arrange that independently.
Bugs and Critters
Islita is in the dry forest, this means that you almost certainly will not have trouble with mosquitos. On the other hand, this is the great outdoors and that means that you may see an occassional scorpion, pizotes, growler monkeys, iguanas birds, etc..
Dont leave food out, close the kitchen windows and doors when you are not there. DONT intentionally feed the animals.
We always fluff the towels and sheets before using them.
Upon arrival at the Punta Islita
We are independent of the hotel so you check in at our house with our property manager. For that reason we need to know the Timeframe of your arrival. Besides checking in with us you will want to check in with the hotel Front desk to arrange credit for your expenses at the hotel such as meals, activities, etc.
You may call Isaac at 8771-1860 or Abraham 8302- 8129 for any issues that arise.
Just before you arrive at the hotel you will make a 90° turn to the left and proceed past the golf course for about 500 m. There you will see the gated entrance to Hotel Punta Islita. When you stop at the gate tell them you’re coming to Mariposa. They will direct you and you can follow the signs up to Hotel Reception. We are including photos in the photo section of this site to show you the turns and I can provide photo driving directions as well.
We take considerable care to be sure that everything is in proper working order but this is a actually a very harsh climate for mechanicals. The sea air, wonderful to us can be murder on appliances, furniture, etc. If you see anything which is not functioning properly please immediately advise our caretaker, Isaac, Abraham or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
