Prepare for sea views and brush up on your disco moves
Situated on Croatia's Rab island, the waterfront resort village of Lopar is known for its rustic vibes, scenic sandy beaches lined with pine forests, and family-friendly swimming spots. In peak season, Lopar comes alive, and while your days can be spent wading around with the kids in your crew, your evenings can be spent dancing till dawn at the all-night discos. Look for Lopar vacation rentals close to the sea, or set up in the hills. Bonus points if you nab 1 with a private pool, Adriatic views, or both.
Lopar is all natural, with a splash of man-made fun
Lopar relies heavily on its outdoor activities and natural beauty, and it's easy to see why. Though there aren't any museums right in Lopar, you can travel south on the island and find the Kuca Rabske Torte. Visit during the daytime, and you'll find a museum dedicated to Croatian cakes, complete with tastings, tours, and classes. There are also a variety of historic monasteries around the island, including the Monastery of St. Anthony Abbot, and the Samostan Sv. Bernardina. While you're exploring the rest of Rab, take the kids to the EleganceReef aquarium.
With (separate!) beaches for the active, young, and nude
If you're looking for kid-friendly Lopar vacation rentals, look near Paradise Beach on Crnika Bay. Located in town, its waters are so clear and shallow, you can wade to the tiny island just offshore. If you'd prefer to hike, visit the popular forest-lined Livacina Beach, with trails that lead away from the sea. Alternatively, the nude Sahara Beach is a popular spot to shed your swimwear. When hunger strikes, you can walk to a handful of taverns and beach bars, and in peak season, enjoy the all-night discos.
A sleepy town that wakes up in time for summer
The summer months, from June through September, are most definitely Lopar's peak season, when much of Central Europe flocks to its sunny, sandy shores. Outside of this time of year, you'll find that much of the island falls back to sleep. Visit in April through early June, or late September through mid-October and you're almost guaranteed perfect weather and empty beaches all to yourself. From November through March, don't be surprised if it's just you and the locals. Most of the hotels, resorts, and many restaurants will close entirely for the off-season.
Shady pines and sandy beaches equal pure paradise
Situated off of Croatia's coast in the Adriatic Sea, the village of Lopar occupies the northern tip of the island of Rab. Lopar boasts 22 public sandy beaches, almost entirely bordered by the shady pine groves that you'll find around the peninsula. Rab is one of the greenest islands in the Adriatic, thanks to over 300 natural springs. If you're out for a hike, keep your eyes on the skies for a large array of birds that populate the island, or look down for hare, rabbit, and beech marten (a type of rodent) scurrying about.
