About Analee Wulfkuhle

I am a California transplant with New England in my soul. The cottage has been a wonderful place for respite and family fun, especially when my kids were younger. I am fortunate to have many Maine friends, including a couple who has stayed at the cottage for over ten years!

Analee Wulfkuhle purchased this cottage in 1999

Why Analee Wulfkuhle chose South Sanford

After vacationing for 4-5 years on Lake Estes, I snapped up this cottage when it became available. It’s been such a fun retreat for my family and friends, and I love sharing it with others when I can’t be there.

What makes this cottage unique

Our go-to activities: swimming and playing on the raft and slide; exploring the islands (a 200 ft swim from the dock); biking to Kennebunk/Kennebunkport; fishing from the rowboat (my son’s first fish is mounted in the cottage!); brunch in Portland; playgrounds in Kennebunkport; York beach with the penny arcade and salt water taffy; lobster boats and artsy shops & theatre in Ogunquit; movies at the Portland Art Museum. And of course, Shane’s of Maine ice cream!

The lakefront was beautiful!

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was cozy, the deck was huge. The boat and outdoor chairs are a big bonus! Very clean.

Quiet and beautiful rustic setting!

  • 4 of 5

My wife and I stayed at the Little Red Cottage for four days after our son's wedding to rest and relax before heading back to Minnesota. We loved the beautiful setting and found the cottage to be everything we needed. We appreciated being by the lake as well as the proximity to the ocean.

Owner's Response: So glad you had a great Maine R&R. And yes, the location of the cottage is very convenient for the Maine coast & beaches as well as the lake. Fun times!

Owner's Response: I am so dismayed that this guest found the cottage to be so far from expectations. All of my other families this summer had excellent experiences! But one unhappy vacation is one too many…. In response to the specific concerns: ——“Property was not child friendly” - I am uncertain what this means. The deck was remodeled this spring and is totally up to code. Electric outlets not in use have covers. ??? ——“Gazebo screens all ripped” - The screens were replaced at the beginning of the season. This issue must be related to “blankets had a pet odor.” Pets are not allowed! But someone must have brought a dog…. ——“Decking and chairs were loaded with pine sap” - This year I have noticed more sap from the pine trees. I’m not sure why. If I had known that the chairs were not presentable, I would have called my cleaning crew to come take care of them. I certainly will make certain they are cleaned for future families. ——“Did not find it very clean” - I have a cleaning crew, and their work has received (unsolicited) kudos. Again, if I had known that the cottage cleanliness did not meet expectations, I would have made arrangements for additional cleaning asap. ——“Futon very uncomfortable” - I have found that bed comfort is extremely personal and subjective. Other guests have found the beds and futons to be very comfortable, but sadly this was not the case for this family. ——“Dock was covered in moss” - I believe the renter may be referring to the raft, not the dock (which is aluminum and moss-free). By the end of some summer seasons, lake moss often accumulates. I will try to figure out a way to try to reduce the accumulation. ——“Property not well taken care of” - again, all my other families have been very satisfied. I will contact this renter to discuss his payment, and I will re-examine my HomeAway narrative to be certain that the description sets appropriate expectations for a rustic lakeside cottage.

Lovely cottage, beautiful view!

  • 5 of 5

What a great place! Very roomy cottage with three bedrooms, and room to sleep at least 8, although there were just the two of us. The house was clean, and the owner was very anxious to solve any issues we had. (Analee is great!) The lake is beautiful, and there is a small beach with a dock and a floating slide for the kids to play in the water. There is also a small boat with life jackets and fishing gear if that is your desire. Our grandchildren loved the place - it's close to town, with shopping available within five miles or so. We recommend it highly!

The cottage was cozy, clean, and had amazing views of the lake.

  • 5 of 5

When we arrived the cleaning crew was just finishing up. They were courteous and friendly. The cottage was very clean. It rained the entire time we were there but the large windows and sliding doors provided wonderful views of the lake and the vacation was very relaxing. The porch was especially nice. The beds were comfortable. We'll definitely be coming back.

This cottage is perfectly placed on the lake! Absolutely loved everything about this place. 10-15 minutes away from Shaw's and Walmart which was very convenient. Also the seller was so nice and made everything so easy! I will absolutely be going back here!
