About the property

Holualoa Cottage Studio minutes to Downtown Kona and Beaches

Lovely Mauka Studio Cottage on 5 Acre Horse Property yet minutes to downtown Kailua-Kona and Beaches.

This slice of Hawaiian Heaven is located on the temperate side of Hualalai Mountain, home to the finest coffee in the world, Kona Coffee. The beautiful vistas from our property over look our pastures with grazing Calves and Horses, the neighboring Coffee Farms and on to the Beautiful Kona Coastline and Ocean Horizon views that will amaze you with incredible Sunsets. The three stall Cedar Barn is home to Gilda, our Friesian mare and her 1/2 Arabian Colt, Kuu Ipo. There is also one wonderful loveable Dog, Bella and a White Homing Pigeon named Pearl Jam. Of course we shouldn't leave out the flocks of Wild Turkeys, Parrots, Franklins, Doves, and the variety of wild Pheasant and Birds that insist on visiting every day. Your nights will have the pleasant sounds of a variety of frogs.

The Cottage is located on the quiet side of the main house and pool with commanding Coastline and Ocean Views of its own. We are a non-smoking property. The cozy studio includes a small refrigerator, coffee maker, microwave, dishes and utensils. There is also a large flat screen TV and WiFi.

We are located approximately 2.5 miles from the Wonderful Quaint Artist Community of Holualoa Town, an Historic small town overlooking Kailua-Kona. This charming old Hawaiian Town boasts several beautiful local Artist Galleries, an acclaimed Restaurant, a small General Store, a country Post Office, Library, School, Churches and lots of old style Coffee Shack buildings. Of course there is a great Coffee House with Fresh Baked Goodies to enjoy as you stroll the Galleries. Kailua-Kona, beaches, restaurants and shopping are just minutes down the mountain.

Our home sits approximately 2200 feet above downtown Kailua-Kona. A bit cooler than sea level the nights are perfect for sleeping and the days perfect for activities. Our day time temperatures rarely exceed 85 degrees even in Summer.

Come experience a side of Hawaii that most people never get to see, yet so close to Kona, Shopping and all beach activities. Come enjoy our Country Hospitality smothered in Aloha but please understand this is a no tobacco smoking property. Mahalo!

Best Cottage in Kona

  • 5 of 5

Description and pictures don't do enough justice to this posting. This cottage was the best option for staying in Kona and explore the Big Island.

Aloha and Mahalo Sidnei, looking forward to go back to the Big Island and staying at your cottage once again.

Cozy and peaceful

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent four nights in this lovely little cottage and we found our stay to be very pleasant and peaceful. The cottage is cozy, but with more than enough room for two people, and considering its size has plenty of amenities. Everything is very comfortable. We enjoyed sitting on the lanai playing cards while taking in the lovely view (especially at sunset), or hanging out with Bella, the resident dog, who is absolutely beautiful and so friendly! At night the sounds of the frogs lull you off to sleep. It's so peaceful. It's about a 20 min drive down to main area of Kailua-Kona which has a huge array of restaurants, shops and things to do, so having a car is a must; we were more than happy to spend the time driving because we got to return to the bliss of the cottage after each day! The owners Sidnie and Wayne are absolutely lovely and made our stay very easy and enjoyable. :)

Well appointed, cozy cottage in idyllic setting with distant ocean views

  • 5 of 5

Sidnie is a gracious, welcoming hostess and the cottage was clean and had all the essentials of a home base on the Big Island. I came in on an evening flight and hadn't eaten all day. Sidnie graciously encouraged me to grab a bite before driving up the mountain. I admit it was a little intimidating the first time in the dark but Sidnie had the lights on in the barn to let me know I had arrived. I quickly became accustomed to the winding, scenic, historic road to Holuloa and enjoyed the views afforded by the elevation.

I was there in early June and the temperatures were pleasant for sleeping. There isn't a kitchen but cottage is equipped with a microwave, small refrigerator and coffee pot.

I recommend you drive the short distance to the town of Holualoa to shop the art galleries and have a delicious lunch or dinner. It is also worth the short drive from there to Donkey Balls for samples of chocolate covered macadamias and a cup of delicious Kona coffee.

If you want to stay in the congestion of town and be in the thick of things this is not for you. But if you want an affordable getaway that is close enough to Kailua Kona to be within minutes of beautiful beaches, snorkeling, shopping and restaurants give this a try.

Beautiful and Peaceful Retreat

  • 5 of 5

This was by far our most peaceful lodging in Hawai'i, among three different islands and four different locations. The elevation near 2000' above Kona made it much cooler day and night, which for us from the Seattle area, made for much better sleeping. The one downside is that the unheated pool was a bit chilly, but we'll take that. The house and cottage are very private, with no major views of neighbors, yet still close enough to major Kona attractions (as well as the Saddle Road/Mauna Kea). The owners Sidnie and Wayne were very accommodating, allowing us to arrive early and even leave slightly late, and even provided a complimentary bottle of wine (with glasses) on our porch. We're not drinkers so we didn't partake, but appreciate the gesture! The property was very peaceful, with minimal noise and much less rooster alarm clocks than everywhere else we stayed. The grounds are lovely, with a great view of the sunset from our cottage and the pool. The interior of the cottage was just as nice as pictured, nicely decorated and appointed, with lots of storage. The TV was by far the biggest we had among our four lodgings. The bed was very comfortable, too. The only thing we could have wished for - if we had been staying longer - were laundry facilities and perhaps a little more kitchen amenities (small sink and stove, maybe a toaster). However, neither of those are very feasible in this size cottage, and not necessary for a short stay. And, this cottage is still way nicer than any hotel room I saw at twice the price. We really enjoyed our stay, and will definitely consider this wonderful cottage again when we return to the Big Island in the future.
