About the property

House, 5 Bedrooms, 5.5 Baths, (Sleeps 10-12)

Door County has been named the Best Family Vacation Destination in Wisconsin as well as one of the Top Ten Vacation Destinations in North America by Money Magazine. Most recently it has been named the Best Wisconsin Romantic Getaway by Wisconsin Magazine. In the heart of Door County is the Village of Sister Bay which is on the bay side of Door County. This is significant because if you like boating, swimming, fishing or just beautiful sunsets, the bay side is the place to be. Sister Bay has lots of shopping, restaurants and water activities as well as a huge marina.

Very close to the village is Maple Manor, a beautiful 2 acre estate with a historic church that has been transformed into a beautiful home. The great room is 27' x 47' with a beautiful fireplace and several sitting areas. Off this room are 3 bedrooms all with their own fireplaces and whirlpool baths. The large eat-in kitchen is also off this extraordinary room. Upstairs are 2 more bedrooms each with their own whirlpool baths and each with their own staircase. And lastly there is the tower room where you can sit and read or write with a little solitude.

This is a perfect home for a large family or several couples who enjoy traveling together. It is truly an extraordinary place to stay.

There is so much to do in Door County that you just can't fit it into 1 week.

About The Owner

I have owned several companies through the years. Publishing, land developing, off loop theaters, sound and film editing facilities. These businesses kept me very busy. I wanted a second home to relax, unwind and not think about work. I thought Door County would be the perfect place to buy. It has always been my favorite place for vacationing. When I stumbled upon Maple Manor I bought it immediately and renovated it. We have had many great years in Maple Manor. I currently teach futures trading and trade futures. My business has me traveling frequently and I don't spend as much time as I would like in Door County. I am very happy to be able to share my home with others. Maple Manor has incredible vibes, as anyone that has stayed here will tell you.

The Owner purchased this house in 2002

Why The Owner chose Door County

I have been visiting Door County since I was a young boy. I wanted to spend time here with my children as they grew up. My family and I have wonderful memories of our times here. I always feel at home in Door County. It is one of the most beautiful places on the planet.

What makes this house unique

Maple Manor is in a great location in town, Sister Bay. This home was formerly the Sister Bay Baptist Church. We completely renovated the inside but we kept the original exterior look.

We can walk to town for coffee or walk to the beach. It is only a short walk for breakfast, lunch or dinner. We believe Sister Bay has some of the best restaurants in Door County.

My family and friends enjoy having a private bath with whirlpool tub in their bedroom. All of the bedrooms are roomy with sitting areas, writing desks and fireplaces. The 3rd floor tower is a great place for solitude and has a great view of the village. Everyone enjoys the views from the great room and kitchen area.

The lighting in the great room is spectacular at night. The beams and bookcases are illuminated. The sky and clouds are painted on the great room ceiling which is 25 feet high.

Sister Bay is in the heart of Door County and Maple Manor is in one of the best locations on the peninsula. Our home is an inviting and special place for anyone that visits.

Sophisticated Comfort

  • 5 of 5

We selected this property because it provided the roominess our family would need for a Midwest reunion. We had often stayed in Door County when the kids were small but hadn't traveled there as a family for 17 years. The home did not disappoint. The home is spacious and each room beautifully appointed with the amenities and décor of a fine home. Each of our children, now grown and married, had their own bedrooms with adjoining bath. Their children, the cousins shared a bedroom, and they were in heaven! The kitchen was so well stocked with everything needed to prepare even a gourmet meal, that a pot brought to prepare a special dish was not needed. Unfortunately, the pot brought was forgotten, so I guess we'll have to book a return stay to retrieve the lost goods. Unlike one of the previous comments, our deposit was returned within a week of checkout. Thank you for sharing your home with our family!d

Family Vacation

  • 4 of 5

We stayed at Maple Manor for 5 days in late September. The house was beautiful and had plenty of room for all of us (6 adults and one baby). The kitchen was a delight to cook in - lots of room and well equipped. The house is well located a short walk into Sister Bay, a fact we took advantage of on several occasions. All beds and bedrooms were very comfortable and the house really was a delightful place for our family vacation. Do keep in mind that the picture of the lake is not representative of the view from this house. It is situated a short distance outside of Sister Bay and does not have a lake view. The country views were lovely, however.

Our only complaint would be that we weren't provided with towels for all bedrooms/bathrooms for our stay. It was "assumed" that since we had a small party we wouldn't need all the bathrooms, and one of the upstairs bathrooms was not stocked with towels. We had several singles in our group and we did indeed need all the bedrooms and all the bathrooms. For the amount of rent paid, we felt this was an unnecessary shortage. We weren't paying rent based on the number of rooms we were going to use, or the number of people, we paid to rent the entire house. I would assume the cost savings to not stock towels in one bathroom was minimal and we found it rather annoying to have to deal with. It was also very unfortunate that the lovely gas fireplace in the living room was not working while we were there. There were some cool fall evenings we relaxed at home with some good music and games and it would have been very nice to enjoy the fireplace too.

Also, communication regarding the rental was sometimes quite slow and it took sometime to get our refund back, but we did eventually receive it.

I would recommend this home for large groups. It was a beautiful place to stay and we certainly enjoyed having the room to spread out the evenings we relaxed "at home".

Beautiful accommodations

  • 5 of 5

Our group of 8 had a wonderful time surrounded with Door Counties beauty right out the back door. The home was beautifully decorated and our sleeping accommodations with each couple having their own bathroom was perfect. Kitchen was well stocked with all our cooking needs. Loved the long center island!!! Will definitely recommend to all our friends and family. Had a wonderful time. Thanks for the loan of your beautiful home. We'll be back.

Can't perfect perfection!

  • 5 of 5

It rained everyday that we were in Door County. We didn't care, because it gave us an excuse to spend more time in this gorgeous home. This home exceeded our expectations. It is unique in nature and ambiance. The quality is in the construction and the decorating warmed huge spaces making it more than comfortable. Our family of ten adults gathered together and found times when it was nice to enjoy the loft to read or during a storm the third floor watch tower made for an exciting way to watch the lightening. The layout is a large kitchen work area, granite counters, an 8' island, eating area seats 10 and even the kitchen sink and faucet are awesome. There is a wonderful deck overlooking the fields and we were able to spend time chilling and grilling. The guys tossed a football around in the spacious yard. The GREAT ROOM is just awe-inspiring! A wall of indirectly lit shelves and glass cabinets adorn the 47 foot wall with a large fireplace set into the step up arched focal point. The high ceiling is beamed and indirectly lit also. All have queen sized beds and soft feather quilts. It is difficult to capture the true beauty of the home with photography. The home was meticulous and we would recommend it to the most discriminate. The owner was extremely personable and willing to please. Great memories were created for our family!

Perfect for an extended family gathering

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful home inside and out--even more beautiful than in the pictures! The rooms are spacious and comfortable--especially the kitchen. We made most of our own meals during our stay and had plenty of counter and refrigerator space. Having a private bathroom with each bedroom was very nice. This home suited our group of ten very comfortably from the great grandparents to the family with the new baby. During our stay, we enjoyed pizza from Husbys, the Sister Bay Beach, Stone's Throw Winery, the Door County Ice Cream Factory, and the American Folklore Theater. We will definitely return.

Church Revival!

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful conversion of an earlier place of worship into a rental property which very comfortably accommodates five adult couples, or any family group/s up to ten. The kitchen is newly renovated and fully stocked with the necessary utensils and plates and service-ware with large adjacent breakfast area. Each bedroom has its own bathroom and there is a powder room off of the large common room on the first floor. Large dining room. Two sets of stairs make separate accessibility to the two bedrooms on the upper level. Unique sitting area in the former bell-tower. Adequate parking area for all visiting families. Good hiking and bike riding from the property. The town of Sisters Bay is walkable.

I can recommend this home unequivocally. Clean, well-maintained, and exactly as presented on-line.

There are things to note for potential renters:

This does not have a view of Lake Michigan or Green Bay, although both bodies of water are close and easily accessible. Its location in the rolling countryside of the Door peninsula, however, is in itself quite beautiful.

Entry stairs make it unsuitable for the handicapped.

Bring your own coffee maker. I timed the existing brewer and it took 45 minutes to produce a full 12 cup pot. Luckily I am an early riser and had coffee ready for the rest of the family when they awoke.

I would suggest that one (quite inexpensive) upgrade to the owners.
