¡¡Gracias!! - Dave F.

Great experience
Exactly the end of summer getaway that my family and I were looking for. My two teenage daughters loved the experience as they had never had the opportunity to stay at a camp before. The Finch camp was better than expected and had everything we needed. Great camp feel and Monson is a beautiful area. Thank you for sharing this place with us.

Monson ME trip
This camp was perfect for us. It had more than enough amenities for us to very comfortable. We all enjoyed time on the lake and around the campfire. The Monson General Store was close by and had a great selection. Conveniently located for countless day trips throughout the area.

My fiance and I could not wait to have some R and R and your house was a perfect place for that. We took walks, went swimming. We BBQ'd and had romantic dinners on the screened porch. Thank you for sharing this little piece of heaven with us.

Great Place
Nice camp with lots of room. Very quite and peaceful. Internet boost worked great. Fire pit in pictures make you believe it's right in front of the camp but is actually a little walk down the road to the lake. Overall it was a great getaway.

Thanks Katrina. I'm glad you had a nice visit and enjoyed the camp. As you have noted, our private lakeside dock area with the kayaks and canoe is not directly in front of the camp, but is adjacent to the front corner of our property (catty corner) just to the right and down to the dock after walking out the front door. Still very convenient and close.

We had a great time at Finch Camp! Everything was as stated in the listing. The lake is beautiful and the loons made their presence known. Everyone in town was very friendly. Make sure to stop by the historical society on a Saturday for a tour of Monson's past.

Relaxing stay
The camp was very nice and clean. Plenty of room. We assumed that the camp was directly on the lake. It is just a short walk to the dock but there is no view of the lake from the camp as there is another camp directly in front of you. We had a very relaxing stay though and was able to catch some fish.

Thank you for your review! We're glad you had a nice time and caught some fish. We're sorry if there was confusion about the lake views. We do mention in our description that the peekaboo view to the lake is through the trees and our neighbor's camp. And our adjacent private lakeside area is just to the side of our camp - right on the lake and indeed just steps away. As you saw this area includes our dock, a picnic table, plenty of lawn chairs, 2 kayaks and a canoe - and plenty of privacy. Thanks again!!

Small town, scenic lakeside escape in the beautiful Moosehead Region of Maine
This rustic camp on Lake Hebron was the perfect place to get back to nature. We enjoyed swimming and kayaking on the lake, hiking the trails in the area, and biking traffic free back roads. At the end of the day we came back and cooked in a fully functional kitchen, spent the evening on the dock looking at some of the clearest star-filled skies we've ever seen, and sitting around the fireplace. This was just a great place to unplug (there is no/extremely limited phone coverage here - but you can go to town and connect to wifi at a few restaurants or at the library) and enjoy the people you are with. We definitely want to come back!

Thanks! Aren't the stars amazing in Monson?? Regarding Wi-Fi, I keep thinking I'll pull the trigger and install Wi-Fi one day, but then I realize we'll all be staring at our phones all day, and it's so nice to disconnect once in a while. Especially at a place like this. As you said, there's good service in town if needed, which is a nice walk and a good reason to get down there anyway.

Excellent response rate from owner
It was great to get away from it all - the only issue we had was we thought we were able to look out on the water sitting on the porch -and thought there was a beach area. My son had fun fishing but there wasn't anything really to catch - my misunderstanding. One of the cutest cottages on that side of lake.

Thanks- glad you had a nice visit. Our cabin is located about 100-150 feet from lakeside. We do have peekaboo views to the lake from our porch but there is one more property, Camp Ketchawink, between us and the lake. We do also own the adjacent lot next to Camp Ketchawink right on the water's edge, which is where our dock and canoes/kayaks and boat slip are located. Fishing is always hit and miss from the shore. I've always had best luck from our boat or canoe about 50 yards from the island in the middle of the lake, usually early in the morning or at sunset. There are still plenty of nice white perch in the lake and they stock trout early in the season but those are bit more elusive in the hot summer months .

Exactly what you need :)
Finch Camp is a perfect magical summer getaway. Whether you want a cozy romantic stay or to play like a kid at the lake. Great spot to swim, the water is gorgeous. Kayaking all day, even to dinner at the Lakeshore house. Riding bikes, campfires, and the stars were more than a girl from the Jersey Shore could handle.
One of the neighbors have a sign that says “Adults at Play” where one would normally see a “kids at play”sign. I think that is the perfect description for the time we had here.

A walk back in time for me.
I grew up at Indian Point, every summer of my life we would visit the Olson camp just next door. I remember my parents sending me over to the Finch camp each morning for water from the pump out front, I'm happy to report the water is as pure as it was then. I never went inside, just looked through windows as a curious little kid would. I brought my family there this year for our annual family picnic and we were very happy to find such a warm , cozy and comfortable place. Now that my childhood curiosity has been satisfied I can highly recommend this wonderful cozy camp to all who want to realize the friendly woods of Maine -- Absolute God's country.

Unmatched beauty and tranquility!
Another FANTASTIC stay at the Finch cabin! This was our second stay at the cabin on Lake Hebron and it was a wonderful as the first time. It is a rustic cabin that reminds me of our family bungalow I used to visit as a child. I even had the pleasure of meeting one of the several 4th generation residents who recited tales from the last 60 years as clear as they were yesterday. The morning canoe trips on the lake offer splendid views of the fall colors.
There is plenty to do in the local area. The town of Monson is making great strides to improve the community. The new business and artisans are all very friendly and inviting. The nearby town of Greenville has much to offer as well. There are numerous trails in the area including several waterfalls and a crash site of a B52 which still has the aircraft debris.
David, the cabin owner, is a pleasure to work with. He responds quickly to inquiries and ensured our stay was enjoyable. He promptly saw to any issue we encountered.
Finch Cabin offers a quite getaway on a majestic lake that is simply unforgettable.

Lake Hebron Cottage
My family ( siblings and a few cousins) thoroughly enjoyed our recent stay in Monson, Maine. Growing up, we spent a lot of time at our grandparents house in Monson ( the former big slate house on Tenney Hill). It was wonderful to reminisce in a town that has so many memories for us. And thanks to this large cottage, we get to make new memories. We didn’t let a rainy Saturday dampen our spirits! We still went to the lake, toured waterfalls, walked around downtown, spent time at the Monson Museum and paid our respects to relatives at the cemetery. It was our third time renting this special cottage, the last time being in 2015. We noticed the great updates and found everything to be just perfect! We enjoyed every minute! Thank you David, for sharing your place with others. It was nice to just unplug for the weekend and take in all of the sights of beautiful and peaceful surroundings. It most certainly is a little slice of heaven. We look forward to renting it again next September! Thanks again!

Awesome property!!
Normally we go camping for Labor Day which co-insides with my birthday. This year we decided to rent a house instead. I can't express how impressed we were with the house. As soon as we walked in we knew it was going to be a great weekend! The house was very clean. The care taker does an excellent job of cleaning everything including all the floors which doesn't always happen in other rentals we've stayed at. The charm of the house was enchanting. For an older house its nice to see how well it has been taken care of. The furniture was awesome the room sizes were great as well as all the quaint furnishings around the house making it so charming. The lake was splendid and I would suggest bringing a kayak to explore the lake.
I am sure we will rent again.
There were only two things that weren't great. One: we didn't stay long enough!
Two: we had to leave!

It's a real cabin
Sweet authenticity is something this place certainly has. Painted wood floors, area rugs, stone fireplace, wood windows, and (not to get too esoteric) happy feelings inside the place.
We used both porches a lot because the weather was ideal. We're gourmet cooks, so having a gas stove and lots of pots gave us the opportunity to shine in the kitchen. The house was clean and smelled clean! We read the history of the cabin in the book provided by the owners, and so felt a healthy connection with its longevity. The lake is practically at the foot of the cabin, even with another cabin in front. The neighborhood is very woodsy, almost etherial, and neat as a pin. We used the canoe and fished, we used the chairs by the fire pit for evening wine, we watched sunrise and sunsets, and we're taking home memories we'll cherish forever.
We thought that lake water in the taps might be an inconvenience, but it was fine. We used bottled water for teeth-brushing, cooking, and coffee, and by the end of the first day we were used to it.

Thanks for the detailed review. You described the experience of our camp better than I ever could. Funny about the water. It's all I've ever known - all of the camps in this area have pumped water in from the lake for as long as I can remember. We're lucky that it's such a clean lake and luckier to have our own well with fresh drinking water right out in front of our camp. (Tastier than any commercial bottled water!) I'm glad you enjoyed your visit! Dave F.

AWESOME!!
This rustic cabin is beautiful! It was all I hoped it would be. It was a quiet vacation without any interruptions. The fall foliage, crisp air and scenic lake were just mesmerizing! The cabin is rustic: creaky floors, old time screen doors and vintage furnishing reminded me of childhood in my grandfather’s cabin. We LOVED it! We had beautiful canoe trips around the lake listening to the majestic loon call. The fireplace set the ambiance for quiet evenings with the family. I cannot say enough about this cabin which harkens to the days of old and simpler times.
It was a quick trip to Moosehead lake and the town of Greenville where there are plenty of tourist attractions to be had. Traveling north is the remote backwoods country with beautiful views and abounding nature. There is a memorial to a B-52 crash site which is also worth the trip. Hiking along the Appalachian Trial is just around the corner and offers great chances to see wildlife.
David was an absolute pleasure to rent from. He is very accommodating and was quick to respond to our questions. We will certainly be staying here again!

Very relaxing
Very nice RUSTIC CABIN. Cabin was clean and cozy. Stayed the last week in September and the weather started to get chilly at night and in the morning. After our initial shock of no heat in the cabin besides the fireplace the rest of the week went very good. Had to locate firewood which was not a problem. Maybe have wood for renters to use and a ax. One suggestion for the cabin would be to add some type of handle at the tub to assist disable and short renters get in and out of the tub, maybe place some type of slip resistant mat in the tub for when you're using the shower.
View from the dock was very pretty and picturesque from the day and at night looking at the stars made you lose track of time. A short distance up the road is a entrance to the Appalachian Trail. Had to trek on the trail just to say we hiked on the Appalachian Trail even if it was just for a mile.
Cabin was clean and very well stocked. We all had fun and took pictures when filling the water containers from the hand pump outside.
Local residents were very friendly and helpful. Pete's Place in Monson offered very good baked goods. Very short ride to Greenville and Moosehead Lake. Locals told us where we can get a glimpse of some moose and to our surprise we saw 2 moose a short ride away. Dinner at Kelly's Landing was good. Took a day trip to Bar Harbor to experience Maine's seafood. Trenton Lobster Pound on our way there was very good.

Acerca de su propietario/a
Propietario/a: David Finley
I am the grandson of Charles Finch, who purchased the camp in 1947 as his hunting getaway. The property has been in our family ever since. When most of the family moved out of the area we decided to begin renting it out from late spring to early fall while still using it for personal use periodically. It is a very special camp in a wonderful location. We appreciate your interest in visiting the Finch Camp.
Por qué escogió este alojamiento
I spent many wonderful summers at this camp as a child. I have fond memories of Lake Hebron, chasing bullfrogs, fishing for trout or perch in the quiet lake, hiking the many trails, or taking a short trip to pick wild blueberries in the countryside. The summer days were sunny with occasional thunderstorms that we rode out playing games in the comfortable cabin with a large fire in the living room. We often took the short walk into town, stopping along the way to observe loons on the lake and watch in awe as occasional wandering moose passed by. We'd also take the short drive to Greenville to shop and dine or explore the expansive Moosehead Lake recreation area just a few miles up the road. Spending time in Monson is like returning to simpler times in a very magical place.
Qué hace que este alojamiento sea especial
In addition to spending relaxing time at the camp swimming, fishing, and exploring Lake Hebron, the area has many wonderful activities to choose from. A typical visit might include hiking up the unbelievable Mt. Kineo island in Moosehead Lake (a definite bucket list item), picking blueberries, taking a guided moose viewing Safari by canoe in many of the local moose habitats in the area, hiking to local waterfalls via the nearby Appalachian Trail (the trail access in Monson is just a short walk from our camp), fishing in the abundant local lakes and streams, or taking a peaceful canoe ride on the many rivers and ponds in the area (including Lake Hebron). At nearby Moosehead Lake (the largest lake in New England), you can take a trip around the lake on the historic Katahdin steamship, fish for a variety of species of trout and lake salmon, have an enjoyable meal on deck overlooking the lake at popular Kelly's Landing, take a thrilling and absolutely gorgeous seaplane ride above the lake, or simply visit the many shops and restaurants in Greenville, the gateway town to the lake which also has an abundance of guide services available for your many possible adventures.
