Uitsig the cottage that lives up to its name
We enjoyed our stay at Uitsig Cottage on the hillside of Glenridge Heights. The compact and homely cottage met all our needs.
Everything from the panoramic views of False bay, the mountains and the beach with the train rattling along the edge, to the large fynbos garden are delightful.
We certainly recommend this accommodation and would love to stay again if we come back to South Africa
Thank you so much Joan. Many greetings from Uitsig cottage and Cape Town. Yvonne and Helmo
I stayed here for seven nights and found it very peaceful and restful. With expansive views, this perfectly equipped cottage was a wonderful place to rest from the rigors of travel. I did not have a vehicle but had no problem getting around with UBER. The nearby seaside villages are delightful and the penguins are endlessly entertaining.
Hi Lauree, Many thanks for your revue of Uitsig cottage. Much appreciated.
Hopefully I will meet you next time :)
Kind regards Yvonne and Helmo

Spectacular view; picturesque; great location; caring hosts
We had a wonderful two weeks at this cottage near Simon's Town. It is far enough away from central Cape Town to make one feel free of the hustle, bustle, and crowdedness of the city. But still it's close enough to take in all the sights and activities that this location has to offer. The picture window toward the bay offers a spectacular view and is better than watching television.
Yvonne and Helmo are very accommodating and caring hosts, ready to help with any questions or logistical challenge. The train stops at Glencairn station nearby and we used it several times to travel up and down the coast to the other towns. Unfortunately, we had so many people start warning us about "bad guys" on the train that we started to have concerns about riding it. But that never stopped us, as supposedly the crimes are mostly taking place north of Muizenberg.
We wavered between 4 stars and 5 stars, but finally settled on four for the following reasons: 1) there is a severe water shortage in the area so we felt limited as to how much water we could use for showering and flushing (not any fault of the hosts); 2) we walked a lot into town, to the train station, and to the nearby restaurants and the climbs to get back up to the cottage were a little challenging; and 3) we would have preferred anything from a normal bed to queen size to a kingsize rather than two twin beds pushed together.
Our two weeks at this magical place flew by.
Hi Peggy and Gary
It was lovely to meet you both, you are a very interesting couple and we are pleased that you enjoyed your stay at Uitsig cottage.
We are glad that we could offer you a ride, and introduce you to the Wine farms in the area and to Simonstown, as without a rental car, it can get a bit difficult.
Luckily Cape Town has had good winter rainfall, our storage dams are over 70% full, so the water problem is a thing of the past.
Our twin beds are "extra length" and the same size as a King bed, pushed together. This is what is advertised. I am sorry you did not mention it while you where at the cottage, as we could have made an arrangement for you.
All in all, I am glad you arrived home safe and that you got to see Cape Town at a good time of year. I hope you will have many happy memories.

Why Yvonne Ankerman and Helmo van der Schyff chose Fish Hoek
Uitsig Cottage is situated in one of the most scenic and tranquil regions of Cape Town. If you enjoy nature, but still want to be close to the city, this is the place for you. Easy access to the wine lands and beach and ideal to use as your base, while viewing the attractions of The Cape.
What makes this Cottage unique
The view has to be seen to be believed and it really is better than the photos can portray. Watch the sea birds, seals, whales, sailing yachts, wind surfers, submarines and battle ships go by, from the comfort of the Uitsig cottage lounge or veranda. Set in the Cape Peninsular, there are endless mountain and sea views, with new beaches around every corner.
