Nice home
Loved the location of this home with a nice large living room set up, hot tub, and walking trails through the woods right outside the driveway! Would love to stay again if visiting Tahoe.
Our family enjoyed a quick weekend getaway at the Squirrel’s Nest! The location right next to the forest trail was perfect for a walk in the woods with our pup, followed by a relaxing soak in the outdoor hot tub, and family games at the kitchen table. The kitchen was well-equipped and everything well organized and labeled. Quick drive to town yet tucked away next to the woods. We’ll be back!
We really enjoy this cozy house with a great hot tub and location. Our only issue this time was a really strong and unpleasant smell between the dining table and stereo bookshelf at the front of the house. Could be a dead animal under the house, but not sure.

We had a wonderful stay here - quiet location, right by a trail which was perfect for our dog. We had everything we needed in the house, the beds were really comfortable, and the hot tub was a great perk. Conveniently located just a short drive away from the lake and activities. Check in and check out were easy, and we got help super quickly when we couldn't open the padlock for the hot tub (user error). Would absolutely stay here again!

Great location right at the beginning of a trail-head with a pretty massive hottub and plenty of firewood in the garage for the wood-buring fireplace.

It was a very comfortable home with just enough space for our group of 6. The wrap around deck and hot tub was an added bonus and the location of the cabin itself was peaceful. There's also a nice 3 mile trail that is right next to the cabin which we took full advantage of on our last day.

Thank you for providing a warm home to relax in. The area was beautiful. Had no problems with the fireplace. Wood provided was dry and easy to burn. Hot tub was wonderful. Clear and clean. Jake from hot tub company and his beautiful dog Maya came and made sure it was ready to use. Thank you jake. The fact we were able to bring our fur baby made the trip. Pictures of property are spot on. Have rented from Hauserman since the 80's always easy.

Reviewer Comments:
We honestly love the Squirrels Nest have been staying there for many years. However, in the last couple of stays we've been disappointed with the following:Hot Tub - We won't go in, it's always murky & water needs to be changed more often. Putting chemicals in constantly doesn't work. Fireplace - Needs checking, it smoked up the entire house where we had to open all the windows. The wood may be the cause as the flue is open or it needs a really good sweeping.Heating - the heater is really loud & is very inefficient in the bedrooms. So having the fireplace & hot tub amenities is nice but if you can't really use them, not worth cost of equivalent to staying at a very nice resort.

This was our 5th summer staying at The Squirrel’s Nest. It has gotten better every summer. We have made suggestions on how things could be improved and it’s so nice to be listened to. The Hauserman staff and Mr. Douglas have been great to work with.

We really enjoyed our stay at Squirrels Nest! The home was clean, had pretty much all you'll need as well as a HUGE deck, outdoor seating, a hot tub and a wood burning fireplace (there was even wood. We'd stay there again in a heartbeat. The only minor critique is that we found the bed a little soft for our taste.

Great space for an anniversary vacation with our dog. I loved being right next to a trail which made walking the dog easy, and more interesting than just walking around a neighborhood. I also loved the fireplace and hot tub! We did have one small issue with the house and the company had someone out to fix it immediately. The only reason I gave it 4 stars for condition is that the shower head could be replaced. It was either incredibly hard water pressure or very light (this was due to the type of shower head). I would absolutely stay here again! Tahoe is such a beautiful place, and this was a great space to relax after days of exploring!

Great location for exploring North Lake. Trail starts right outside the house. 10min. walk down the hill to semi-private beach on the Lake. Great hottub. Property description is açurate - not a luxury house, but very comfortable. Had an open fire place, which we did not use. House was smelling of smoke when we arrived from prior use.

Great location for hiking and sledding, not so great if you don’t like stepping in poo
We arrived at this little cabin after dark but house seemed cute and taken care of. Woke after a hard nights sleep (literally, mattresses were rock hard), and quickly shook it off once we realized how close we were to the trailhead, awesome! Got kids dressed for sledding and sent them out to play in the snow on the expansive front yard. After coffee I walked out to join them and was horrified to see them rolling and falling and stepping in dozens of un picked up (and now half hidden in snow) piles of dog poo!! Gross and highly annoying! Cleaned up the kids and decided to head up the trail for sledding, now fully aware there is tons of dog activity, but I have honestly never seen as much dog poo as there was around this house and on this trailhead. Every 3 steps revealed a new pile to dodge, and my 4 and 6 year old and 65yr old mom are not nearly as accomplished at dodging as me. Gross and frustrating! It wasn’t until we walked waaaay off the trail that it improved, with dog poo only found 10-15 steps apart. A couple days of observing revealed exactly what was going on. Neighbors and visitors to the trailhead let their dogs off leash immediately to roam this houses yard, and not one of them were paying attention to what their pets were doing while roaming. As a dog lover/owner myself I was more than appalled at the blatant rudeness. I never allow my dog onto a property of a person I don’t know, much less urinate and defecate on any surface (a couple dogs nailed my car even). Unknown dogs were bounding up onto the porch of the house, scratching at the door, and pretty much doing whatever they wanted while their owners unloaded gear from their car. New hikers would come and go every 30-60 min, and 80% of them had dogs. We were there for only 2 days and in that time I must have seen at least 30 dogs a day poop or pee on this houses property. I’m not sure if this is a known issue, but that amount of dog waste has to be apparent to anyone visiting or taking care of this property. Bottom line, cute cabin, nice hot tub, good location, horrible trail visitors and neighbors. Disappointed and won’t be booking again.

Nice home with good hiking!
The home was a bit more exposed than we expected, with the beginning of the trailhead basically right outside there was a pretty constant flow of people walking by. The hot tub is literally on the front porch, but still feels private after dark. Overall was a nice place to stay with the dogs, with lots of hiking through the woods and things to explore. There's also great proximity to a few smaller towns with shops, and access to the lake.

Great loation but the house is in need of some TLC and deep cleaning.
The location of the house is splendid if you like to hike, snow shoe, cross country ski or snow mobile.
The fireplace is the best because it is deep and has a lovely fire screen. The kitchen was well equipped. The hot tub was a great extra but was noisy because it is right outside the bedroom window. The house is in disrepair and needs deep cleaning. No fence to keep the pooches corralled.
