Great house, great location

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I rented this house for a little summer vacation getaway, the house is adorable and well maintained with a lovely back yard and hammock for those days that we didn't want to go anywhere.

Great location, close to many of the main island towns and within walking distance from downtown Oak Bluffs. Would definitely rent again!

Really Pleasant surprise!

  • 4 of 5

I was worried until I arrived. Very pleasant house with roomy bedrooms, enough closet space and enough bathrooms! Owner is caring and attentive and immediately came running when I couldn't get my computer to connect to the internet.

Kitchen was fully stocked with everything you need if you ever decide to cook. The house, itself, is close enough to run back and forth to town.

Only warning is that "sheets provided" does not mean towels also. I'm not an air conditioner fan so the fact that they were only in the bedroom windows was fine for me. I did wish there had been curtains so we weren't always on display from outside.

All in all it was great enough that I asked to return next year for 2 weeks instead of 1!!

Crazy Wedding Party

  • 4 of 5

We rented this house and several others for our family to attend our daughter's wedding on the Vineyard. Great house, nice quiet neighborhood. We had lots more people in and out of here during the day than 6, but did just fine ... lots of dishes, lots of supplies. We ran around by car, so not sure how close things are for walking purposes. Nice backyard, grill, deck etc.

wonderful, affordable, private-perfect for families!

  • 5 of 5

I rented this home last summer with my family (children ages 4-16) . I was shocked to read the negative review posted on this lovely, very comfortable, very private and VERY AFFORDABLE Vineyard retreat. It has a beautiful backyard and deck area with large table, umbrella and comfy chairs. Big spacious rooms- including all bedrooms, kitchen and bathrooms. Beautifully decorated in a vintage Vineyard theme ( but also kid- friendly) The windows, screens and bathrooms all worked fine while we were there. We had no problems at all. The neighbors were extremely friendly and we even got invited to a next door birthday party!. The kitchen had everything we needed ( pots, pans, utensils, lobster pot, etc) and we cooked in every night or grilled out on the deck- we also made lunches for the beach everyday- but I just packed our sandwiches in good ol' ziplocs ( that I brought from home)! No tupperware was needed or sought. Our family had a wonderful time playing games in the back yard, watching movies, playing cards, or hanging out under the stars on the deck. It was so close to town, the older boys could walk to the center of Oak Bluffs without having to worry. The only time I saw the landlord was when he graciously greeted us upon arrival, mowed the back lawn once during our week ( and not too early either.) He called once mid week to see if we needed anything. Our security deposit was returned in full within a short week after returning home. However, we like to make sure we leave the homes we rent as clean if not cleaner than it was left for our use- to be sure we have a chance of renting again or having our security deposits returned in full. This is a great home at a very fair price to pay for rent on the Island in the summer. I highly recommend this rental for a large family that needs space, an extra bathroom, and enjoys quiet time in the evenings at home-after the beach- hanging out with the kids in the yard - but also close enough to the action of the town too! This is a great place.

I would NOT recommend renting this property - especially in the summertime. I have rented a lot of houses in my time and while the house itself is nice - dealing with the landlord was not worth it. He makes excuses to show up, unannounced - on the guise of 'fixing' something - even though his ad claims that he has a 'caretaker' living on the property. You'll soon find that the people (plural) that live there are just renters. The week I was there, he scheduled a tree cutting company to cut down the tree outside the bedroom window at 7 in the morning. How inconsiderate! The last you want on vacation is to wake up to the sound of a chainsaw buzzing for an hour. The house has no air conditioning so you'll be quite hot there. You could open the windows, but there are no screens which means now dealing with the flies & mosquitoes. The master bedroom's shower does not work. The hot water comes out the cold side and the cold comes out the hot - and there is no inbetween so you are either taking a freezing cold shower or a scalding hot one. There is very little in the kitchen in the way of utensils. Maybe 1 spachula and 2 pans, so bring your own stuff - and don't forget tupperware when you want to pack a lunch for the beach because he does not stock any of that in the house. His ad does not tell you that you have to provide your own linens - but you will because he does not provide them. His ad also doesn't tell you there is a security deposit required, but there is. You'll give a security deposit but you won't get all of it back. He'll nitpick and complain and then deduct ficticious items from your refund check. I could go on but I think you have the picture by now. BUYER BEWARE

Owner's Response: The above review is very alarming to say the least. However, here is the story behind it. The tenant who rented the house left urine-soaked clothing that required extensive cleaning of the floors and carpeting and destroyed bedding that needed to be replaced; seriously soiled upholstered pillows; destroyed outside furniture; lit a fire that was near the forest in the back yard and destroyed part of the lawn. Tenant refused to be responsible for any of these damages and went so far as to inform me that the urine-soaked clothing was most likely put there by somebody that snuck into the house between the time that she left and when the next tenant arrived (a window of 3 hours). Tenant was furious about being held responsible and took the issue to the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office that handles rentals. After I submitted my information and pictures of the house that had been posted on the rental website, the Attorney General’s Office dismissed the case outright. Hence, tenant’s revenge was to post a seriously negative review of my home. I don’t have the time here to rebut everything, but let me focus on two points: “there are no screens on the windows and there is nothing in the kitchen”. Both of these are absolutely refuted by the pictures posted of the home. There are screens on the windows and the kitchen is fully stocked. There have been no other negative postings prior to or after this tenant’s rental of the property. In fact, another tenant refuted this person’s claim in her review of my home. For those people who have respect for the truth and property, we honor; but for those who have no respect for the truth or for property, it is truly sad.
