I just spent a month at Julia's Nambe Country Retreat and recommend it in the highest possible terms both as a base for someone working in the area (I was doing work in multiple Pueblos of northern New Mexico) and for a small-family vacation (my wife and daughter joined me for a week over Thanksgiving). The casita offers peace and quiet and all the comforts one could wish for. Julia, who lives in the main house right next door, is a superb, friendly and attentive yet non-intrusive hostess. The views from the casita, the patio and the grounds are beautiful. We enjoyed walks around the immediate area and easy access to Santa Fe, Taos (via the breathtakingly scenic High Road), Los Alamos and the Jemez Mountains.
Among places we came to enjoy within a 10-minute drive are the Poeh Cultural Center, three good food options (the Sopaipilla Factory, El Parasol, and especially the hot lunch items in the deli at the Pojoaque Supermarket), the Pojoaque Pueblo Library (which has a phenomenal DVD collection) and -- best of all -- the Pojoaque Pueblo Wellness Center (excellent cardio and weight rooms, gym, swimming pool, racquetball courts and more). We were really happy to have such a well-equipped, low-cost and welcoming workout place so close, especially given our fondness for New Mexican food.
If you are looking for top-notch New Mexican food, we would recommend: Rancho de Chimayo (in Chimayo, less than 15 minutes away); El Paragua (Espanola); Tomasita's, the Pantry and La Choza (Santa Fe); and El Charritos and Tia Betty Blue's (Albuquerque).
