Get away and recuperate! Nestled in the trees high above the water, the Overlook Cabin offers a peaceful, comfortable, and intimate experience of the Ohio River, with a large riverfront window, 8x12ft deck, & jacuzzi bath. The 12x40ft space has a queen bed, two twins, and a couch, and would be great for families, hunters, or couples. Dogs/cats welcome; dogs don't need to be crated. Each night's stay includes two made-from-scratch Breakfasts (up to a $26 value), with all food being delivered directly to your door. Cabins are also stocked with complimentary locally-sourced coffee. There is a large outdoor area for kids to play or for a picnic or campfire, and a path directly down to the river for hiking or fishing. Lots of hiking/hunting in the area, about four miles from a boat launch (KH Butler), and 10-minutes from a cute little town. Free parking near the cabin. Free wifi. Smart TV & DVD player available. Owners live onsite should any issues arise.

There is no clear signage property is very hard to find the “restaurant” is a big red building with a very faded wording was not open at 5 o’clock no way to feed my kids nowhere to walk my dog. a very sketchy walkway to go back to cabins that look like sheds on the outside did not bother to go in. We got back in the car and left. Pictures posted are very deceiving as I said we did not go in. They may be perfectly pleasant inside but on the outside I did not feel safe staying here with my children.

Great Stay

My b/f and I needed to get away for a brief break. This was ideal for us, a quiet place away from the hustle and bustle, plus free breakfast? Score! While this place may not be centrally located for some, do not be fooled. You are only 10-15 minutes from the town of Galipolis Ohio which offers all your big box stores and restaurants. Additionally we visited Charleston WV (35-40 minutes away), Huntington WV (20 minutes away). Ashland KY is also only 20 miles south of Huntington as well. I imagine most people would stay in the summer months, but we enjoyed 2 days in February with snow and it was beautiful.

Former city-folk, Rebecca & Chris moved to the area from LA in 2016 to homestead off-grid, with the goal of living as freely and self-sustaining as possible. Serious health issues forced them to leave the property after three years, at which point they bought a local convenience store/diner that they overhauled to specialize in homemade, locally-sourced food. While the restaurant needed to close to the general public in 2022 due to the economy, it continues to support the cabins via its homemade breakfasts. In addition to the bed & breakfast, Rebecca and Chris also work as teachers. They now have a four-year-old daughter, Cypher, and are increasingly grateful every day for their lives out here on the water.

Why they chose this property

Light, water, space, and the river! The cabin is one large open floorplan, with the exception of the full bathroom. A deck overlooks the water. The main cabin room has a vaulted ceiling with a large window overlooking the beach and the water, which makes the rustic yet modern space feel open and full of light. Outside there is direct access via a path down to the beach & water, for fishing and hiking, as well as a large open grassy & landscaped space overlooking the river, with a fire pit, swing set, and flagstone areas with covered tables. The property also borders a deep creek, with lots of trees. The cabins & yard are separated from the road by the restaurant (no longer open to the public) and the owner's house. Free Parking. Free wifi. Smart TV & DVD player. Two free breakfasts included with each night's rental. The room is heated/cooled primarily with a mini split unit. Guests can access the river, beach, and yard at their leisure. There is also a landing spot for boats about hour miles south (KH Butler, managed by the Ohio Dept. of Natural Resources) and a cute little town about a 10-minute drive north. Two spaces available per cabin, with more potentially available upon request. We live in a very rural area, so there are a variety of dwellings and lots of patches of woods around.
