A little history about our fair neighborhood.....! After Georgetown to the west, Capitol Hill is Washington's oldest neighborhood. In its earliest days, most of the residents were members of Congress who lived in boarding houses and dormitories surrounding the Capitol. As the neighborhood evolved, row houses replaced boarding houses and the Hill began to grow as a neighborhood filled with families, as well as Washington's who's who. As you walk around this stately neighborhood, don't be surprised if you see faces you've seen in the news. A number of senators and representatives make their home on the Hill. In addition to the U.S. Capitol, the Hill includes other significant American landmarks such as the U.S. Supreme Court, the Library of Congress, the Folger Shakespeare Library, Union Station, the U.S. Marine Corps Barracks, the Washington Naval Yard, Congressional Cemetery, Lincoln Park, and the Eastern Market. All of these sights are within easy walking distance and most are Metro-accessible. Just down the hill from the Capitol is the National Mall with all of the monuments and memorials iconic to Washington, as well as more than 10 museums and galleries of art and artifacts. To the east of the Capitol is the ***Eastern Market***-one of the only remaining merchant markets left in Washington. While the market bustles during the week, it is on the weekends that it acquires its character and charm as residents from all over the city and visitors from all over the world come to the market to enjoy breakfast; purchase fresh meats, produce, and breads; stroll through the adjacent flea market; and browse the latest art and jewelry crafted by local artists and artisans. During the spring and summer months, a visit to the U.S. Marine Corps Barracks at 8th and I Streets SE will allow you to see the Marine Corps Silent Drill Team in action. This 24-man rifle platoon performs precision maneuvers with their 10.5 lb M-1 Garand rifles with fixed bayonets. ***Over at the U.S. Capitol, the newly opened visitor's center allows visitors to experience the Capitol from the ground up. The center features several state statues in Emancipation Hall and a museum that chronicles the history of the U.S. Capitol from its cornerstone laying in 1789 by George Washington to the present day. You can buy your tickets for the Senate and House galleries are available here! The Library of Congress' Jefferson Building, just across the street from the Capitol, is the world's largest repository of books and media in the world. ***The building is open to the public and the Renaissance and Classical art are breathtaking.***
These and other sites make staying on Capitol Hill a must if you're visiting Washington on business or for pleasure!!!!

The property was perfectly located for everything we wanted to do in D.C. The owners were fantastic- communication was always fast and detailed and very friendly. The only detail we felt that was lacking was that the floors, garbage cans, and kitchen were not very clean. Overall, we did enjoy our stay there.

Thanks for letting us know about the garbage bins, floors, and kitchen. We spoke to our cleaner and have remedied this since you last stayed with us. We are so happy you enjoyed your stay at our home and we hope you come back soon. Thank you, Jennie!

Great location, lots of character
Location to grocery store and metro stop were great. House has a lot of character and full kitchen is very helpful.
There's a major temperature difference between upstairs and downstairs which we addressed by opening windows at night.
The couch is stained beyond an acceptable level and should be replaced immediately before any more guests arrive. The cover, which does not fit, does not come close to addressing the issue.

Tammy and her group were great. We had no issues and they left the unit in great shape.
The temperature difference has to do with the vents upstairs which were left fully open in the summer. Once closed to partly closed the upstairs and downstairs temperatures even out. The sofabed we had ordered finally arrived but not before Tammy's stay which we are sorry they didn't get to use it.
My family of four (2 adults, 1 teen and 1 preteen) all enjoyed our spring break to DC and staying here. From this location, we could easily catch the Metro bus, as well as use the subway. We used the grocery cart provided to walk 5 or so blocks to get breakfast groceries from the Safeway nearby. We also walked to Barracks Row area for dinner. Lots of great cuisine choices nearby.
Everyone enjoyed having their own bedroom and sharing the upstairs bath wasn't hard because the downstairs bath has its own shower too.
It is an urban area, like all of DC. There was road noise in the primary bedroom but nothing that would dissuade me from recommending this place to others.
Communication with property manager was prompt and responsive.

Good place to stay
I rented this property for a week in May, knowing I needed to accommodate a larger family group and wanted to have a 'hang out' spot that you can't get when you are a group staying at a hotel.
Pros -
This house is within easy walking distance to a metro stop that brings you right to downtown DC without any transfers.
The beds in every room were very comfortable.
There were plenty of linens.
Washer & dryer.
The kitchen had everything we needed to cook for the week.
The backyard (fenced) has a patio table and chairs - we really enjoyed having the outside space
The wifi worked at all times.
2 full bathrooms
Nearby pizza place (that delivers) is good
Good grocery store within walking distance.
The owner was quick to respond when I did have inquiries.
Cons -
Rough neighborhood. Not scary, but if out at night, consider a walking buddy.
The stairs are beyond creaky - they scream. If anyone in the house is up during the night, everyone will wake up. The sounds really carry on the 2nd floor.
Overall, I would stay at this property again. It was comfortable and suited our needs for the week very well.

MIchelle and family were great guests.
As she said the staircase was creaky and we fixed it so they are very quiet now. This is a turn of the century house ( the other century ) with a recent remodel but we kept the original red oak wood. they do need maintenance every so often and we tend to them as they require. The neighborhood is quite safe as we have been here for over 30 years and never had any issues nor have any of our guests. It just looks a bit ungainly. We loved our guests Michelle and her family and would love to have them back in their next stay in DC.

Fun location, Histroic Property
HI! I traveled to DC with my husband and parents. The location of this property was very nice, close to a metro, a grocey store and in fun vibrant neighborhood that was nice to walk around in. However, we are from a small town and used to relative quite at night, and my experience is that city noise can be disturbing to sleep. So we sought out a quite house and this property was not very quite, inside or out. Every door and the floor was squeaky, so if someone walked to the bathrooms at night it was noisy. Two houses down there is a major construction project which would start up at 7:30 every morning. There was also a emergency vehicles on and off all night. Additionally the apartment complex across the street created some late night noise as well. We did find the property was well appointed, the kitchen was nicely stocked and there was room to stretch out. There are lots of rules at this property I found strange, like they will charge $5 if one glass is broken and then all of their glasses and dish wear was from Ikea. We didn't have any issues with damage or charges, but watch out for that and read the rules. The owner Allen was very attentive and seemed willing to help out if there were issues, but we didn't have any issues so we didn't actually interact with him.

Alicia and her family were great guests. We feel really bad about the noise of the construction. This is a historic area and the construction at the corner of Pennsylvania avenue which is about a half a block away did take longer (and went over budget) than they had promised the neighborhood. But, as of this writing the noisy parts are all done and they are working inside now. We have not had any complaint about them this year (2015).
Thanks Alicia.

Spring Break... March 2014
We just got home from a great weeks vacation at this property! I would recommend this property to others but I would like to make a few helpful comments. The property was very clean but a bit smaller and older than expected! We are a family of 5, and for us, staying here was a much better option than renting a hotel room. For us a big draw was the ability to cook some of our own meals, which we did! But having only one frying pan... Made it a bit if a challenge. Also, would have loved it if some more detailed info was available at the property. Perhaps a map of where the grocery store was as we walked twice as far to the Safeway instead if going to the new store right around the corner. Also possibly a list of good places to eat or order food nearby. And posdibly the numbers of relibale car services. We were a bit disappointed at the lack of privacy both in and out of the house.( The window above the mstr door was broken). The house has only one heating system and we had a hard time getting the temperature just right both upstairs and down, but there were small heaters in the closet which helped emensly! But, having only 1 tv was a bit of a bummer. Allan, the ower, was awesome. And each time we called he was very helpful, even letting us store our bags both before and after our reservation. We did have a big snowstorm which shut down the city and it would have been very helpful if a shovel was available at the property. The apartment complex across the street is a bit undesirable but it turned out not to be an issue at all. We realize that every big city has such areas. My kids were afraid to be outside alone but my husband and I felt very comfortable. And, for the price... It was a good value. We enjoyed our trip and can't wait to return!

Nancy and her family were great. There were challenges with the heating and that was caused by not having the central heating system's fan in ON position but running the ceiling fans all the time. We switched and everything worked. On our welcome letter we give addresses of the local grocery stores and the pharmacies with phone numbers. The snow shovels were in the back of the house. Sometimes a bit of communications goes a long way and we are here to answer any questions you may have. We can't wait to have Nancy and her family back next year or for the summer. "The A/C works great and with ceiling fans in ON position, the temperature will be very pleasant".
This home was in a good location with Harris Teeters on the next block, 5 blocks from Eastern Market. One block to the Metro and very close to the bus. The neighborhood felt safe during the day to walk around. Quiet enough for a nice visit. Beautiful pear tree in the front yard and great table and grill in the backyard. We enjoyed our relaxing family get together.
Excellent home and location. Perfect for a short or long stay.
This is a great VRBO. The row home is perfect, kitchen excellent, back yard fun, 3 bedrooms, all as advertised.
There is a very good Harris Teeter 5 minutes away. And you are a 10 minute walk to Eastern Market with its great food selection and abundance of restaurants.
It is a typical DC neighborhood with all type of folks.
The hosts were very responsible.
We had a great time and would definitelty book again.
The property managers were very responsive prior to arrival and throughout our stay. Upon arrival, we were welcomed with a nice bottle of red wine. Lovely touch! We had reserved the parking spot at the rear of the property but did not have the key to the gate in the lockbox . The property manager came over that evening with the key to open the gate. We’d definitely stay at this property again!
Being only two blocks from the train station and grocery store satisfied most of our needs. The property was also within easy walking distance to a local farmers type market and several good restaurants. It was a very family friendly location and we all felt safe walking to dinner in the neighborhood.
A charming townhouse, "row house," provides a quiet, warm, and convent place to rest and relax. Around the corner from the metro, grocery store and gas station. And down the street from the popular eastern market and multiple food options. It was clean and warm. Family neighborhood....We truly enjoyed ourselves.

Thanks for the review and for staying with us, Jessica! It was a pleasure hosting you :)!
The house was clean and well appointed. We had everything we needed. It was handy being so close to a grocery store and we really appreciated the architecture of the house. We would definitely stay here again.
Location was wonderful! We enjoyed being close to a grocery store and the Metro. Allen and Juliet were very responsive to our needs. We readily reached them by phone or email. The bottle of wine as a welcome was a nice touch!
Everything went well with our stay. The house was very comfortable and had lots of character. Loved being close to the metro and grocery store. Owner was great about returning the tablet that I accidentally left behind!
My husband, myself and our 2 teenagers stayed for 4 nights while we took in all the DC attractions and visited American University. It was great that each teenager had their own room to unwind in the evenings. The Metro is very close and the Harris Teeter is conveniently located around the corner. A few blocks from Eastern Market. If you are there on a Saturday morning, do not miss it! Amazing vendors and food. Definitely recommend this property. Full of character and charm.
