About the property

Looking for peace and privacy on a picturesque island in the San Juan islands? We have the perfect waterfront getaway: a charming cottage right on the beach. This 1900's vintage cottage is provides a cozy and inviting atmosphere with stunning views from the glassed-in 'wheelhouse.' Watch the boats and ferries come and go as you relax in comfort. Picnic on the lawn while viewing the activity in Harney Channel. Enjoy the resident deer, herons, eagles, cormorants, otters, and seals, and keep a lookout for the occasional whale. Although Shaw Island is considered the 'quiet island,' it is centrally located in the middle of the San Juans, with ready access to other islands from the ferry landing just steps away from your door. Getting here is easy: drive, bike or walk onto the ferry at Anacortes or come by kayak or boat. Moorage is available right outside the cottage. Curiously cute cottage.

What a splendid stay in such a beautiful cottage. The owners steve and terri were wonderful hosts that were always willing to help if we needed anything. Also having the store so close was quite convenient. I highly recommend this cottage andi tell all of my friends and family that they need to come out to shaw island. It was a completely relaxing trip. The one caviot is they can only accommodate up to 6 people. So having all the kids along wouldn't work. But it's a relaxing spot for a few people or a couple looking to get away.

Wendy from seattle

My kids and I took our bikes over to Shaw on the ferry. Terry gave us a map of the island and marked out some great places for my young sons to encounter nature. It was fantastic and passenger bike trips inter island are free with your westbound ticket. Everyone was very kind and the island feels very remote. But you can catch a ferry over to orcas for dinner if you don't feel like cooking. The cabin was comfortable and well appointed, but we spent most of our time biking around the island;) I can't wait to go back!

Beautiful, Comfortable, Homey, Peaceful

  • 5 of 5

This is truly one of the sweetest places I've had the pleasure of staying. Terri and Steve are generous, kind, and willing to accommodate just about anyones needs or share a tale of the island, historical knowledge, or a laugh. My husband and I have stayed here a few times and will continue to stay here in the future. The cottage is charming and comfortable and the view is to die for. Its always clean and bright. If you are looking for a place of peace amidst the chaos of the world, a place to reconnect with nature and self, Shaw is the place to come. I can't rave enough about the times we've enjoyed here. There are lovely beaches and trails around the island. It's great for biking. This spot is so easy to access from the ferry.

Oh so Peaceful!

  • 5 of 5

Historic little house on a beautiful, quiet island! The house was charming and the view was amazing. What a treat to be able to sit in the wheelhouse and watch the ferries coming and going each day. The house was cozy and warm with comfortable beds and all the cooking utensils you need. Terri was an especially gracious hostess and worked with me to make my vacation very relaxing, peaceful and enjoyable. I would highly recommend it for anyone wanting to get away and just unwind from the everyday work and stress.

Get Away From It All

  • 4 of 5

We absolutely loved the location. It was very close to the ferry (however, the ferry schedule can be difficult). The animal life was abundant, we had at least one deer on the property each day and one day when we had five was spectacular. The house was very adequate for us (we were only two). Although there is an attic/loft with sleeping for three it is difficult to access (the stairs are almost straight up and down). Everything was spotless and the kitchen was well equipped. The "wheelhouse" is a special joy, I spent many an hour watching the water activity from there. All and all, we would recommend this property.

Fun Rustic but Charming Cottage

  • 4 of 5

My wife and I were looking for a quiet little place to stay in the San Juans as a base to kayak from and found this great little cottage. We actually took the Ferry to Lopez Island and paddled over to the little marina at the Shaw Ferry terminal. After checking in with Terri at the Shaw General Store we unloaded our kayaks on the beach in front of the cottage overlooking the small bay and ferry terminal. The cottage was like that old beach house you remember as a kid. Rustic, no-frills, kitchy charm. they've done a good job of maintaining it. A little rough around the edges but the location makes up for it. You could easily walk on the ferry from Anacortes to Shaw and check in at the store with all your weekend stuff. Good for four adults, past that the accommodations get a little rough unless you brought the kids who could camp in the attic loft room.
