Overview

About the property

Apartment, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 3)

Pamper yourself in this spacious (771 sq ft /67 sq m), well-appointed, one bedroom apartment!

It is located in a beautifully-preserved 19th century building in the historic Bastille neighborhood, close to the Marais, the Seine and the Canal St. Martin, in the up-and-coming 11th arrondissement.

THE APARTMENT

Our apartment is located on the second floor (third floor American). The kitchen is to the left at the end of the short hallway. It is fully equipped with carefully chosen appliances and cooking utensils, and laid out with generous counter space. Just off the kitchen, the spacious, marble-walled bathroom reveals a level of luxury truly unique in a Paris apartment. There is a large shower as well a beautifully-large bathtub, just the thing for soaking those tired limbs after a vigorous day of sight-seeing. A mirrored vanity with ample counter and storage space is spacious enough for more than one person to get ready in the morning. Also, you will also find tucked away here a top-of-the-line, full-sized Miele washer and dryer.

Next to the kitchen, the large dining room is just the place to enjoy what you brought home from the Richard Lenoir market, with elegant seating for four under an antique crystal chandelier. Original 19th century moldings are throughout the apartment, but note them particularly here above the chandelier. This room also features inlaid oak flooring, set in a herringbone pattern (point d' Hongrie in French).

Enjoy cozy seating in the salon or living room, which includes a red-wine colored velvet sofa facing its own marble fireplace and a comfy black leather club chair--above you will be another crystal chandelier. The comfortable sofa will fold out to provide a double size bed. You also have the ability to close off the living room and dining room if are using the sofabed, thus providing privacy and quiet for all guests.

Relax and watch mostly French TV (with some English channels) on a LCD television. Bring your laptop and enjoy free wifi. If you need to use the telephone, calls are free to the US, UK, continental Europe and Asia. This salon also features a newly added set of closets and desk, where a printer has been set-up for printing your boarding passes or Parisian itineraries.

The bedroom at the end of the hallway to the right features a marble fireplace as well as antique 19th century end tables that flank a custom, hand-made Treca mattress. The thick-paned, double-windows keep out street noise and the outside shutters can be closed if you need a totally dark and silent room for sleeping.

Finally, even what is usually the most ignored room in any Paris apartment has been given the luxury treatment: the W.C. is in marble, floor to ceiling.

LOCATION AND NEIGHBORHOOD

Our apartment is located in the historic Bastille neighborhood, just enough off the beaten tourist track to provide a calm respite, but still close enough to all those things that make this city indelibly Paris. Literally a block away is the incredible Richard Lenoir food market that no less an authority than David Lebovitz has pronounced one of the best in the city (don’t miss the rotisserie chickens and the incredible fresh fish stations). On the same esplanade where the market comes alive on Thursdays and Sundays can be found your local metro stop--the Breguet-Sabin station, a five-minute walk away.

If you’ve slept in on market day and/or just need a few comestibles to tide you over, there is a new Carrefour City grocery store, conveniently situated literally around the corner and there are two other larger grocery stories a few blocks away.

And if you don’t want to shop for groceries and would prefer a croissant, chausson de pomme or pain au chocolat to go with your morning coffee? Two blocks away is the Boulangerie Sedaine which our sweet tooth can personally vouch for, and in Boulangerie Mardon is even closer. Last year, an organic grocery story and restaurant opened up just down from our street.

But food and drink are certainly not the only attraction. Two blocks up is the famous Rue de la Roquette, which is a lively stroll past shops of every kind in the daytime and which features a vibrant, club/restaurant scene at night. Catch an opera or ballet at the the Bastille opera house, just ten minutes down Richard Lenoir boulevard. And for more leisurely strolls, go west to the Place des Vosges and Marais, or north to the Canal St. Martin. Or head south to the Seine and the Ile Saint Louis. All these Paris landmarks are reachable within an easy ten to twenty minutes, with the Pere Lachaise cemetery and the famous Aligre market just a bit further away on foot. Of course, with the Breguet-Sabin metro station two blocks away and the Bastille metro station ten minutes away, you have a direct connection to the rest of Paris.

About The Owner

Some years ago, when our girls were younger, we spent a memorable year in France... in Aix-en-Provence. The girls became fluent in French. We made life-long friends. It was hard to leave.

Finding this apartment in Paris was a way not to have to leave France for good.

Excellent Visit in April 2017

  • 5 of 5

Excellent visit in April - apartment was exactly as portrayed in photos. The owners were very easy to deal with - and Galanya met us on arrival and went over all the appliances with us. Ridiculously close to the metro and the wonderful local market. We simply had a wonderful time. Apartment very well equipped with very comfortable bed. Would return in a heartbeat.

Great location in the Marais

  • 5 of 5

We spent 2 weeks in this lovely apartment located in Le Marais district of Paris. This one bedroom apartment is a great space with a full kitchen, living room, separate dining room and a full bath with large tub and shower. The location is ideal. Close to the metro and several bus lines including bus #69 that takes you to most of the best sites in Paris. The best outdoor market in Paris is just 3 blocks away and is open Thursday and Sunday mornings. Here you will find all of the fresh produce, fish, meat, and cheese that France has to offer. We cooked meals in the apartment several evenings and the market was a real treasure. Also, there are 2 grocery stores just down the street and more restaurants in the neighborhood than you could possibly visit in a month's stay here. We had dinner at the restaurant just downstairs for the apartment (The Giraffe) and the meal was delightful.

We have rented VRBO apartments numerous times and the check-in and check-out here was the easiest and quickest we have ever experienced. Thanks to Galenya for making our stay comfortable.

Perfect apartment, Perfect location!

  • 5 of 5

We arrived in Paris on Thursday and I can honestly say that everything was perfect from the moment we arrived until our departure 17 days later. Galenya, the apartment manager was there to meet us on our arrival and reviewed everything in the apartment with us, from locking the door to working the dishwasher.

Over the years, we've rented many apartments in Paris and I have to say that this one was the best! The apartment is comfortably furnished and is convenient to everything. Several Metro stations are just an easy walk away, there's a grocery located practically across the street, good cafes close by and the best market in Paris is almost around the corner. Place des Vosges, the Picasso museum and the Musée Carnavalet are all an easy stroll from the apartment. And we can't stress how nice it was to have a grocery so close. Dragging water and wine home is no fun if you have to go several blocks and the employees are much nicer at the Carrefour than at the Monoprix where we used to shop. In general, we both felt that the people in the 11th were much nicer than our previous apartment in the 4th. The owners, Cathy and Alan, were very easy to deal with and even sent us an extensive list of restaurant recommendations. Honestly, we can't say enough good things about the apartment and the neighborhood. Can't wait until next year! PS, We were tempted to give a bad review to help ensure that it would be available next year ;)

Wonderful Apartment! Fabulous Location!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed here for a week in late March 2015. The apartment is wonderful, and the location is fabulous! The apartment is situated in a residential neighborhood near the Bastille with lots of nearby restaurants and three grocery stores, including a Biocoop with lots of vegetarian options. Also, the apartment is only a few blocks away from a convenient Metro line. You can get anywhere is the city easily from here. The apartment owners Cathy and Alan were in communication beforehand, with information and recommendations about transportation, restaurants, etc. They also emailed us during our stay to make sure that we were comfortable. Notably, the apartment has reliable internet access, which is a major requirement when we travel. This was actually the first European apartment that we have rented in years in which the internet was functioning properly. The apartment was extremely comfortable, so much so that we are already thinking about planning our next visit to Paris, now that we have found accommodations that we like. We would stay here again in a heartbeat! Thank you!

Our new home in Paris!

  • 5 of 5

If only this was our home! But I know where now we will stay on every visit. The apartment itself is completely comfortable and tasteful, and large, by Parisian standards. We got to explore the 11e, new to us, and wonderful. So many great restaurants we hardly had to leave the neighbourhood to eat. Every effort was made to keep us well informed of what to expect before our arrival, and one minor problem was fixed PRONTO. I only hesitate to recommend because I want the apartment to be available the next time I book!

Cosy and luxurious apartment in the centre of Paris

  • 5 of 5

Really nice apartment in the centre of Paris. Really central, close to public transports, you can reach everywhere in the city. Even if you go for a walk, the city centre is very close. The apartment is super cosy and comfortable and the neighborhood is very calm and nice. The market on sundays is a must see (go/eat!) - so we learned, afterwards, after having strolled by and bought many delicious goodies. Definitely a great place where to stay in Paris.
