We are real estate brokers in Sonoma, CA. and have resided in the Valley of the Moon for many years! Wine country at its best. Casa Riscal is our second home and we hope to share it with people of like mind.
Mike Hedley purchased this house in 1998
My wife Nancy and I always dreamed of a home on the ocean. Troncones presented a once in a lifetime opportunity and we seized the moment. We built our first home in 1998 on one of the two lots we purchased. We sold that house in 2009 and built the Casa you see here.
The ocean is in your front yard. The village of Troncones provides a friendly, intimate enviornment with smiling people and a general feeling of good will. The pace of life instills a sense of tranquility and casual rythmn. Things happen in their own time here without the usual hub bub of our daily lives. If total relaxation is your vacation objective then Casa Riscal is the place for you.
Couldn't have been happier during our stay at Casa Riscal. Perfect fit for two couples. We slept in the casita - HEAVENLY - I felt like la princesa de la naturaleza with the four post bed, primo bedding and gauzy, airy mosquito netting while iguanas stroll through the casita's lush no-ceiling bathroom. This home is ridiculously peaceful - grab your book and a cold one and enjoy the sun, sand and surf! Days of strolling and lounging, snacking, birdwatching. Nights of happy chatter, cards and dominoes, gecko sightings. Quiet. Easy. Especially grateful for the cool-water soaking tub just off the open air living room. Hosts' thoughtfulness in planning the living, dining and sleeping spaces is thorough and complete. They know how to build a truly fine home with all the amenities you need and none of the clutter and chaos you don't - it's a simple life down there in Troncones. I can't wait to go back.
If your idea of the perfect Mexican vacation is a beautiful house on the beach in a small Mexican town away from the hustle and bustle of the big resort towns then Troncones and Casa Riscal is it. We recently had the privilege to spend 2 weeks at Casa Riscal and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
The house is ideally located right on the beach a short walk from the Troncones village. The sound of the surf immediately out the front of the casa has a very soothing affect and we spent many hours lounging and reading in the expansive living area as well as the chairs and hammocks closer to the beach. Also enjoyed the varied birdlife and were even blessed with a rare day sighting of the elusive tejone who posed long enough for a photo.
The casa is very well equipped with all the amenities you could think of including a very well stocked kitchen. We had the majority of our meals here, not hard to do with the easy access to fresh fruit, vegetables and seafood from the vendors who pass by daily. The restaurants in the area were also very good with our favorites being Mexicana for dinner and MiCasaSuCasa for breakfast.
While we did have a rental car for excursions to Zihua, nearby beaches etc. you could easily make do with the local taxis and/or buses.
Casa Riscal exceeds expectations and the pictures don't do it justice. Not always the case with many rentals. Highly recommended and we will definitely consider returning. Thanks for a great vacation Mike and Nancy
We spent seven weeks at Casa Riscal and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. This private, open concept house sits under a soaring, amazingly constructed palapa roof. There are ocean views from all rooms. The well equipped and well stocked kitchen was perfect for meal preparation. The bedroom with its large comfortable bed is behind screened doors. The living area faces across the palm treed front yard to the ocean. We spent many hours in the heat of the day sitting under the shade of the palapa roof reading, gazing out at the ocean while enjoying the entertainment provided by iguanas and birds in the yard. We enjoyed sitting beachside watching surfers and horseback riders riding at sunsets. Buying fresh seafood from delightful Carmen and Ruben from their fish truck in the mornings when we hung our "Pescado" sign at the gate was terrific. Beach walks were amazing and we found beaches not far from lovely Troncones beach where we walked for miles in solitude. For us , a car was mandatory in order to explore the area and to shop in Zihuatanejo. The Centro Mercado in Zihuatanejo is a a colourful and lively example of the culture of the area. The touristy beaches of both Ixtapa and Zihauatanejo are interesting to see but pale in comparison to our favourite place of all....Casa Riscal! Many good dining out options available either by foot or by car close by. We dined every might al fresco at "home". The homeowners Mike and Nancy were a joy to deal with from our first enquiry to our departure. We highly recommend this property and plan to return.
Rascal is a wonderful place, so peaceful. The noise of the waves puts one to sleep at night and during the day, there is an enormous beach, just a short distance away, for walking and swimming. My cousin and I have been to Troncones many times and have always been happy there. The house is simple and beautiful.
February marked our fourth stay at Casa Riscal and we consider it the perfect Mexico beach experience. It is so tranquil, totally private and within walking distance of many terrific local restaurants. Our days were spent walking on the nearly empty beach, lying in the hammocks in the shade reading our books, cooling off in the plunge pool, watching the pelicans and egrets cavort on the ocean.......you get the idea. Sunsets, viewed either from the house or beach were spectacular. The kitchen is well equipped; fruit, vegetables and fresh fish can be bought from trucks on the road in front of the house or from town, which is less than a mile away either via the beach or the road. We do rent a car because of connivence but taxi service is available for local needs or for a trip to Zihuatanejo/Ixtapa. We love it!!!
Right on the beach, Casa Riscal is a beautifully designed and well appointed, open-air environment that is perfect for escaping urban life. It feels rustic yet elegant at the same time. The area is secluded but quite close to restaurants, shops, and activities in Troncones. We rode horses on the beach, attended yoga and meditation classes, got massages, went surfing and swimming, and often cooked in. The kitchen appliances and dining area were perfect for the 5 of us. We really enjoyed buying fresh fruits, vegetables, and fish from the vendors who drove their trucks by regularly. Everything was delicious. Our 3 year old loved the wading pool, hammocks, and swinging benches. So did we. It was relaxing to hang out in the shade reading and sipping cool drinks. The king sized bed and sheets were very comfortable, and my mother an aunt were quite happy with the casita. The sleeping areas are enclosed and protected from mosquitoes and the like, though we hardly noticed them in the open air.
The entire area felt safe, secure, and pleasant. The people in the area were friendly, and we were well taken care of by the owners, property manager (Ivan), and others who tended to the garden and did periodic housekeeping. The gardener, Emilio, even prepared wood for a small bonfire that we lit on one of our last nights there. It was beautiful to sit around the fire ring under the stars eating our fresh home cooked dinner.
Surfing in the area is really good. If you're experienced, the nearby point in Manzanillo bay is fun and uncrowded. The Saladita break (long left) and Ranch surf breaks are a short drive away, and there places for beginners, boogie boarders, and swimmers a short walk from the place. I rented a great surfboard from the talented shaper, Bruce Grimes, near the Present Moment, so did not need to lug mine on the airplane.
Note that you can walk to the main part of town from the beach or road in 20-30 minutes, but if you want to get to places more quickly and do not have a car, there are places in town and at some of the hotels that rent beach bikes, and there are local taxis that you can hire.
We really enjoyed our stay and look forward to going back.
If you're looking for a unique adventure call Alejhandro and arrange for a guided tour. His store is next door to the coffee shop across from Present Moment . He can tailor the experience to your specifications or suggest alternatives. There is a local phone book at the Casa with phone numbers for all the restaurants, hotels and various other services. There is an excellent new restaurant on the beach named Brias Del Mar located on the ocean side of the street just a little south of the T. Definitively the best food and value around.
