About this property
Updated Riverfront Cottage with Lake Access & StarLink, for Recreationalists!
Welcome to the North River Retreat! This is a riverfront cottage with diverse wildlife, and bodes well for outdoor adventurer families/friends/couples looking to fish, boat, kayak and more! Wake to the morning sunrise on the deck or dock, coffee in hand, listening to the sounds of the river. Experience sun exposure all day, sunrise to sunset. For rainy days and to stay connected we have STARLINK Internet & AMAZON Fire TV, board games, and a Mini original Nintendo containing hundreds of classic video arcade games.
Your rental will come with the use of a paddleboat and two kayaks. Bring-Your-Own Watercrafts is encouraged! Drop your watercraft in the lake at the public boat launch, minutes away, south on Anderson Road (Google "Anderson Road, K0L 1Z0")! From there, boat to our dock in just a few minutes. Fish populations are plentiful. Large and Smallmouth Bass, many Bluegill/Perch/Rock Bass for kids, Muskie and Pickerel when in season of course. The ecosystem on this river is lively beyond fish, from birds to river otters, herons, frogs, turtles and more.
Please note the riverfront is not for the primary beachcomber looking to lay and swim at a beach or lakefront! Lily pads and weed growth is very plentiful mid-summer & into September. We do run a water circulator during summer rental season to keep the water as clear as we can for enjoyment off the end of the dock. Catch a tan by laying on the dock or floating in the river, or refresh in the water with a swim off the end of the dock or in the deep part of the river. If you fancy walking into waters from shore, there are public boat launches on Round Lake you can visit. Alternatively, visit Booster Park Beach on Crowe Lake, or public waterfront spaces on Stony Lake (not too far away!). Towns to visit: Lakefield, Young's Point, Havelock or Campbellford!
To save you money, we charge a nominal linen and cleaning fee per stay. In return, we ask that you voluntarily bring your own: a) bathing towels, b) pillow cases, and c) bed sheets (one each of twin/double/queen) for your personal comfort. Having said that, there are lots of pillows, and the beds shall be tidy for arrival. If you forgot linens, you may find sets for use (at added charges of $10 per room per night, to cover cleaning and laundering).
Thank you for visiting our page and we hope you'll choose to visit. Please message if you have any questions, follow us on Instagram @northriverretreat and check our our Youtube channel for some drone videos of the surrounding area: @northriverretreathavelock.

Check-out instructions
The host requires you to complete the following before checking out:
Strip any used beds, gather used towels and store extra beds
Remove personal items and remove leftover food and drinks
Turn off the lights and lock the doors
You should have found a welcome binder upon arrival! The last page of this binder includes specific step-by-step check-out morning instructions. If you follow it you'll do great!
Please ignore instructions that no longer seem to apply, such as locking up the boats and river hut as we no longer worry about completing. Our apologies there is no municipal garbage pick-up!
Please let us know how we did! We strive for a clean, fully-equipped cottage experience. Thank you for helping!
Failure to complete these may result in a negative review from the host.

About the host
Hosted by North River Retreat

We want and hope others can come and enjoy the Ontario out of doors, in a clean and quaint, newly renovated (inside and out!) four-season waterfront property!
Why they chose this property
It is quiet and peaceful, away from the hustle and bustle. There are few other residence in this area. It feels like seclusion and tranquility only minutes from town and the Trans-Canada-Highway (ON Highway 7 to Ottawa). The cottage looks directly south down a beautiful winding river. Simply sitting on the deck with a coffee or tea, listening to the wildlife can be enjoyment enough! Want to be active? Paddleboat or Kayak the river! Active individuals should have no problem kayaking south to Round Lake right from the dock!
What makes this property unique
This property displays granite rock, marking the southern beginnings of the Canadian Shield. It is quaint and peaceful, and we are seeking guests looking for the same. We can't overstate the abundance of wildlife. Birds and hummingbirds, River Otters, Blue Herons every morning & Owls and Eastern Whippoorwills in the evening. Firefly season is a spectacle of lights! Varying species of fish (bluegill, rockbass, muskie, large and small mouth bass, walleye, etc.). Loons will come from Round Lake right up the river to feed. The property is also proximal to some nice small towns other than Havelock. Lakefield and the Kawarthas to the west, Apsley to the north, and the Trent River, Hastings and Campbellford to the south. Last but not least, the beauty of Stony lake and surrounding areas for sightseeing!
