|Minimum Stay||3 nights|
Beautiful ranch home with a lower walkout finished basement, built in 2006. Nicely furnished; all you need to bring is your suitcases, groceries, trash bags, charcoal, hygiene supplies, and toilet paper and toiletries. You also may want to bring fire wood if you plan to use our outdoor fire pit so you don't have to scrounge around the area or buy it. Just about everything else is provided. If you're vacationing with your friends or have older children that want some privacy...this is it.
This house has a maximum approved occupancy for 10 people over age 2, plus 4 children under age 3 at the time of the rental.
The upper level has 3 bedrooms (2 king and 1 queen size beds), 2 full baths (1 in the master bedroom suite and the other in the hallway between the 2 bedrooms), a modern kitchen, dining room, living room with a 42' satelite TV, and a laundry room. Walk out to a large balcony with a stainless steel gas BBQ grill, and sit back in comfortable chairs and enjoy a nice view of the lake with beautiful evening sunsets.
The lower level is almost self-sustaining with 3 bedrooms (2 with queen beds and the 3rd with a bunk bed (1 full size bed on the bottom and 1 twin bed on top)). There's also a queen size sleeper sofa in the recreation room. There's 1 full bath next to the kitchen, a partial kitchen/wet bar with a full refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, and toaster oven, a huge recreation room with a 42' Satelite TV, pool table, dart board, 12' Shuffleboard table, and card table. Walk out to a covered patio with a chargoal grill and relax in the hammock with your favorite drink. There's also a picnic table and 6' square kennel next to the patio.
The master bedroom has gorgeous furniture and the king size bed is so soft and comfortable you may spend your vacation right there watching a movie on the wall-mounted 32' TV... Unless you take a few moments to relax in an oversized tub surrounded by wall candles. The second bedroom on the upper level has a semi-firm king size mattress, and the third bedroom has a new queen size mattress. The rooms are beautifully decorated and very spacious.
There are gas firelogs in the upstairs and downstairs fireplaces. Sit back and enjoy a nice warm fire with your loved ones on those cool Fall and Winter evenings. Please don't put anything into these fireplaces; if you want to cook some marshmellows or any other food items, we have a huge fire pit in the backyard for your enjoyment.
Linens and towels are provided as an option and the beds can be made prior to your arrival. You will need to strip the sheets and pillow cases off the beds, and wash and dry them and the towels before your departure. This is so our maid service can have the beds ready for the next guests if needed. Or, you can bring your own bed linens and towels and don't worry about doing the laundry on your last day of vacation. It does take a while to wash and dry all of the linens and towels, so if you choose to bring your own bed linens, you'll have to make the beds upon arrival. Please let me know at least 2 weeks ahead of time so I can notify the cleaning service.
There's plenty to do right at the lake house or within a few hundred yards. You can walk down to the beach for a swim, use our 12' water trampoline with a slide, or take the pedal boat out with 3 others for a fun spin around the cove or do some fishing. Or, pedal yourselves over to the Marina's sandy beach for sunbathing and fun stuff to do for the kids.
Children of all ages will have a blast running the 4 passenger golf cart around the yard or exploring the neighborhood...or taking the golf cart over to the Marina in the morning or afternoon for breakfast, lunch, or to use the playground... then you and yours can drive it over at night to enjoy the Tiki Bar with great food and live entertainment on weekends. The restaurant and tiki bar are seasonal; opening in mid April and closing the end of September.
If you're bringing a boat we do not have a dock available on the property; but, we do have a covered slip with a lift at the Marina (slip #E24); located just around the corner from the house. This is a short 5 minute walk or use the golf cart and zip right over. There's food, beverages, gas, and even ice cream, all at this convenient location. If you need a boat, don't worry, the Marina rents those too.
Our waterfront area is small, but it has a sandy and grassy beach. There's plenty of room to sit in a lounge chair and watch the kids play. There's also a fire pit near the beach so your family can enjoy an evening campfire and roast marshmellows. Our membership at the Marina offers the use of their beach that has a dock, swim platform, and swings for the kids.
And yes, we love our pets and if you need to bring your four legged friends along on your vacation it's okay. Some restrictions apply.
We'll try to make your vacation fun and relaxing. If there's something you need we'll do our best to make it happen!
Keep checking on the calendar for availability dates; some dates are temporarily blocked pending tentative reservations. I update the availability calendar every few days!
We have a Hughes Net wi-fi system for internet access!

PLEASE NOTE: The Bedford County Health Department has approved the septic system (and maximum occupancy for overnight guests) for a maximum of 10 people over age 2; there is no restriction for the number of children under age 3 (except for sleeping accommodations). There are enough beds and a futon to comfortably sleep up to 15 people.

My wife and I have been married for 42 years. We have 3 grown children and 6 grand children. In our younger years we raised and showed Golden Retrievers. Now..we try to get out to the lake as much as possible with the family and enjoy this fantastic lake.
Tom & Mary Kay Bartell purchased this house in 2008
Smith Mountain Lake is a vacation paradise. There's nothing else in Virginia that can compare to this lake. We hope you'll enjoy your time here as much as we do.
Besides the fun you'll have on the water, you can find some one-of-a-kind places to experience. Take a 30 minute drive to Burnt Chimney and taste some homemade ice cream at the Amish-run Homestead Dairy, or take tour of the nearby SML Dam and Power Plant
If you're lucky enough to be here on July 4th week, this is the best spot on the lake. The biggest fireworks on the lake happens at the end of the cove. You can sit in the back yard, go over to the Marina where the fireworks are being lauched, or take a boat out into the cove and watch a spectacular display of lights as reflections shimmer off the water. You get an added benefit of seeing the County's fireworks just over the hill on the opposite side of the lake.
Arrived home from an outstanding vacation at Smith Mountain Lake. This house will make anyone feel right at home. Mr. and Mrs. Bartell are very hospitable and it shows in their loving home. They have thought of everything and some. The house is very big and clean with lots of open space. I enjoyed my morning coffee and puzzles on the upper deck while taking in the view of the lake. Our 2 daughters, ages 21 & 17, and our niece and nephew, ages 29 &27, had a great time in the golf cart in the mornings around the neighborhood, catching Pokemon and "Hatching eggs." We rented a boat for the day at the marina that is within walking distance of the house. The views are breath taking. During the day we spent most of the time in the water, floating on rafts and playing water games. In the evenings, there was still plenty to do downstairs with music, dancing, shuffleboard, darts, pool table, and a poker table! We ended our vacation with s'mores, courtesy of the owners, around the firepit. We will absolutely be coming back!
Just stayed at this house for the new year and I can honestly say the house itself surpass my expectations. It was much larger than I thought it would be and the owner set up a poker table and all sorts of games for us. Yes it is secluded so most of the time was spent in the house but again the house had more than enough things to do. Definitely will be revisiting.
We rented this home for a family gathering. There was plenty of room and we had everything we needed. It was hard to find a house that we could afford that had enough room for all of us and this house was PERFECT. The layout of the house was great because the kids could have the downstairs to themselves since they stayed up later and slept later than the adults. Some of our favorite things were the fire pit, the hammock, the shuffleboard table, the giant checkers and the golf cart. The owners were great to work with and the s’mores goodies were such a nice touch.
We've just returned home from Smith Mountain Lake and had a wonderful time. We rented this home as the lake is centrally located between my siblings and my mom, we were celebrating her 60th birthday. There is plenty of space to spread out and the home is wonderfully equipped. The owners were delightful to work with and when mailing the key, they even sent a "Happy Birthday" message to my Mom which was very kind.
The personal touches like the birthday message AND leaving all we would need to make s'mores was very thoughtful and well received. I don't think you could find nicer people to rent from.
I would recommend this home and location to anyone looking for a relaxing time spent with family or good friends (or both!). The only recommendation I have would be to bring your own bed linens as you are required to wash & dry them before you leave. We brought our and simply remade the beds which made the morning of departure far less hectic.
We hope to go back to this home again next year, it was an absolute blast.
We rented the home for a family vacation with visiting relatives close to Roanoke area. The house was very spacious and more than accommodating for the group we had. The layout offered privacy and space for naps for elderly or young if needed throughout day. There is a water trampoline, paddle boat, floats, lifejackets, golf cart all for guest use. There is a deck just off the living room upstairs that gives a good view of the yard and cove area. The kitchen was well equipped. They had linens provided, although we brought our own. The washer and dryer were HE and new....worked like a dream. Although, given early warning to stay within the homes boundaries, we found the neighbors to be pleasant. The owners were good with communication, answered when we had issues.... and were very easy to deal with. There was a small issues with the water trampoline at check in, from the last guests, of which the owners graciously offered to drive 3 hours to fix, although we were able to do for them instead. The last evening we had an issue with the kids getting lose in the golf cart and creating some damage to property.... owners were very calm with issue and assured us they would follow up with inspection. The home itself is great! A little more on the secluded side of SML, but well worth the drive. The bedding and furniture were all comfortable and the extras downstairs were great for rainy days (pool table, shuffle board). The house was so large we didn't use the downstairs kitchen. We did not use the guest amenities at the campground/marina nearby, but they are available for guests as well (playground, small beach and dock and tiki bar.) The small beach area that belongs with the property is great for kids being able to play with the rocks, build in sand or easily wade out in the water....as there is a very gradual decline.
Tom and Kay were great to work with. We had our kids, grand kids and my parents in and out throughout the week and it was a great time! The beds upstairs slept well. Lots of room for everyone to have their own time if needed. The fire pit is AWESOME ! We held our Sunday morning around the fire and many evenings having smores and family time. The kitchen was well stocked. The golf cart was a huge hit with the smaller kids. Just great family time. Thanks for sharing your home !!
