Beautiful House Near Dam

Bedrooms 5
Space 3,600 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 - 7 nights

About the property

House, 5 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 3 Baths: Max 10 people over age 2

Rentals begin and end on Saturdays. Beautiful ranch home with a lower walkout finished basement, built in 2006. Nicely furnished; all you need to bring is your suitcases, groceries, trash bags, charcoal, hygiene supplies, and toilet paper and toiletries. You also may want to bring fire wood if you plan to use our outdoor fire pit so you don't have to scrounge around the area or buy it. Just about everything else is provided. If you're vacationing with your friends or have older children that want some privacy...this is it.

This house has a maximum approved occupancy for 10 people over age 2, plus 4 children under age 3 at the time of the rental.

The upper level has 3 bedrooms (2 king and 1 queen size beds), 2 full baths (1 in the master bedroom suite and the other in the hallway between the 2 bedrooms), a modern kitchen, dining room, living room with a 42' satellite TV, and a laundry room. Walk out to a large balcony with a stainless steel gas BBQ grill, and sit back in comfortable chairs and enjoy a nice view of the lake with beautiful evening sunsets.

The lower level is almost self-sustaining with 3 bedrooms (2 with queen beds and the 3rd with a bunk bed (1 full size bed on the bottom and 1 twin bed on top)). There's also a queen size sleeper sofa in the recreation room. There's 1 full bath next to the kitchen, a partial kitchen/wet bar with a full refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, and toaster oven, a huge recreation room with a 42' Satellite TV, pool table, dart board, 12' Shuffleboard table, and card table. Walk out to a covered patio with a charcoal grill and relax in the hammock with your favorite drink. There's also a picnic table and 6' square kennel next to the patio.

The master bedroom has gorgeous furniture and the king size bed is so soft and comfortable you may spend your vacation right there watching a movie on the wall-mounted 32' TV... Unless you take a few moments to relax in an over-sized tub surrounded by wall candles. The second bedroom on the upper level has a semi-firm king size mattress, and the third bedroom has a new queen size mattress. The rooms are beautifully decorated and very spacious.

There are gas fire logs in the upstairs and downstairs fireplaces. Sit back and enjoy a nice warm fire with your loved ones on those cool Fall and Winter evenings. Please don't put anything into these fireplaces; if you want to cook some marshmallows or any other food items, we have a huge fire pit in the backyard for your enjoyment.

Linens and towels are provided as an option and the beds can be made prior to your arrival. You will need to strip the sheets and pillow cases off the beds, and wash and dry them and the towels before your departure. This is so our maid service can have the beds ready for the next guests if needed. Or, you can bring your own bed linens and towels and don't worry about doing the laundry on your last day of vacation. It does take a while to wash and dry all of the linens and towels, so if you choose to bring your own bed linens, you'll have to make the beds upon arrival. Please let me know at least 2 weeks ahead of time so I can notify the cleaning service.

There's plenty to do right at the lake house or within a few hundred yards. You can walk down to the beach for a swim, or take the pedal boat out with 3 others for a fun spin around the cove or do some fishing. Or, pedal yourselves over to the Marina's sandy beach for sunbathing and fun stuff to do for the kids.

Children of all ages will have a blast running the 4 passenger golf cart around the yard or exploring the neighborhood (must be 15 or older to drive)...or taking the golf cart over to the Marina in the morning or afternoon for breakfast, lunch, or to use the playground... then you and yours can drive it over at night to enjoy the Tiki Bar with great food and live entertainment on weekends. The restaurant and tiki bar are seasonal; opening in mid April and closing the end of September.

If you're bringing a boat we do not have a dock available on the property; but, we do have a covered slip with a lift at the Marina (slip #E24); located just around the corner from the house. This is a short 5 minute walk or use the golf cart and zip right over. There's food, beverages, gas, and even ice cream, all at this convenient location. If you need a boat, don't worry, the Marina rents those too.

Our waterfront area is small, but it has a sandy and grassy beach. There's plenty of room to sit in a lounge chair and watch the kids play. There's also a fire pit near the beach so your family can enjoy an evening campfire and roast marshmallows. Our membership at the Marina offers the use of their beach that has a dock, swim platform, and swings for the kids.

And yes, we love our pets and if you need to bring your four legged friends along on your vacation it's okay. Some restrictions apply.

We'll try to make your vacation fun and relaxing. If there's something you need we'll do our best to make it happen!

Keep checking on the calendar for availability dates; some dates are temporarily blocked pending tentative reservations. I update the availability calendar every few days!

We have a Hughes Net wi-fi system for high-speed internet access! The plan has 20GB per month. Each weekly renter is provided 5GB for free. A $30 fee for each increment of 10GB will be deducted from the deposit.

Keywords: Waterfront home near buoy marker C2A. Level lot, 2 floors with 5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, 2 kitchens, adjacent to marina (covered slip available) and restaurant/tiki bar with entertainment, pedal boat, golf cart, and pet friendly.

PLEASE NOTE: The Bedford County Health Department has approved the septic system (and maximum occupancy for overnight guests) for a maximum of 10 people over age 2; there is no restriction for the number of children under age 3 (except for sleeping accommodations).

IMPORTANT: Please refrain from using the neighbor's dock for any reason or going on to their property (your pets also). They will call the police and file trespassing charges.

About Tom & Mary Kay Bartell

My wife and I have been married for 44 years. We have 3 grown children and 11 grand children. In our younger years we raised and showed Golden Retrievers. Now..we try to get out to the lake as much as possible with the family and enjoy this fantastic lake.

Tom & Mary Kay Bartell purchased this house in 2008

Why Tom & Mary Kay Bartell chose Huddleston

Smith Mountain Lake is a vacation paradise. There's nothing else in Virginia that can compare to this lake. We think you'll get a terrific place to stay at one of the best prices on the lake. We hope you'll enjoy your time here as much as we do.

What makes this house unique

Besides the fun you'll have on the water, you can find some one-of-a-kind places to experience. Take a 30 minute drive to Burnt Chimney and taste some homemade ice cream at the Amish-run Homestead Dairy, or take tour of the nearby SML Dam and Power Plant

If you're lucky enough to be here on July 4th week, this is the best spot on the lake. The biggest fireworks on the lake happens at the end of the cove. You can sit in the back yard, go over to the Marina where the fireworks are being launched, or take a boat out into the cove and watch a spectacular display of lights as reflections shimmer off the water. You get an added benefit of seeing the County's fireworks just over the hill on the opposite side of the lake.

Great house, perfect for large families

  • 5 of 5

We had a great week and hope to come back again in the future. The property was perfect blend of great house with lots of room and amazing water access. The kids had a great time on the beach and having the Marina right there was very handy. The owners were also very nice and great to work with. Our family has been staying at rental properties at the lake for almost 30 years and this was definitely one of our favorites spots.

Perfect Family Holiday Get-away

  • 5 of 5

My family returns back home every year for Thanksgiving. We combined three families together for the week with kids and dogs. We have been doing this for almost 20 years. This is the absolute best house for us that we have found. The lay-out of the bedrooms allows for main-floor living for those that need it. And allows for the separation of having the kids downstairs! The games available in the downstairs provided hours of enjoyment for kids and adults alike. The house was clean and was stocked above and beyond with items to make our stay a wonderful one. Definitely a repeat visit!

Great Summer Vacation

  • 5 of 5

Arrived home from an outstanding vacation at Smith Mountain Lake. This house will make anyone feel right at home. Mr. and Mrs. Bartell are very hospitable and it shows in their loving home. They have thought of everything and some. The house is very big and clean with lots of open space. I enjoyed my morning coffee and puzzles on the upper deck while taking in the view of the lake. Our 2 daughters, ages 21 & 17, and our niece and nephew, ages 29 &27, had a great time in the golf cart in the mornings around the neighborhood, catching Pokemon and "Hatching eggs." We rented a boat for the day at the marina that is within walking distance of the house. The views are breath taking. During the day we spent most of the time in the water, floating on rafts and playing water games. In the evenings, there was still plenty to do downstairs with music, dancing, shuffleboard, darts, pool table, and a poker table! We ended our vacation with s'mores, courtesy of the owners, around the firepit. We will absolutely be coming back!
