We recently stayed at this unit after a week long wedding event in Kauai.
We have been to the islands many time but never to Molokai. While I had read previous reviews of the "vacant" buildings nearby, I was unprepared to actually see just how dilapidated these buildings are. It was dark when we arrived so I'll touch on these later. There is a small parking area and a short path to get to this unit. There is a rusted, run down fence around this area. But knowing that we would be close to the beach, we forged on. Once inside the unit we had to deal with a large island roach crawling up the living room wall and another scurrying around inside the shower stall.
Once my husband took care of them, he then had to deal with a rodent that was sitting on the mat in the living room. I get it, there are island bugs etc...but in all of my years of visiting, I've never had to deal with this problem. We were provided with a local contact person in case we had any problems etc.... I texted this woman the next day to report what we had to deal with the night before. She responded that she hopes we do not have any more of these "yucky moments". Now that it was daylight, we were now able to take in our surrounding area. The beach is to the right of this unit and the water view is great. However, there is an abandoned two-unit structure in front of our unit. This unit sits right on the beach and the deck has fallen onto the beach. There is graffiti on the building and rotted boards over the windows etc... There are several other abandoned buildings surrounding our unit as well. One is quite large with many units that sits behind this unit. It is unsettling at night when you return and you see these buildings completely dark and looming. It's like being in episode of "Lost". I've read the owner "Kathy's" response to other reviewers about these buildings. She does a great job of deflecting and denying that this is as severe as it is. I have no agenda not to tell the truth so future renters, make your own choice.
I will say that the unit itself is quite nice. It has a well equipped kitchen etc...
There are sliding doors in the bedroom area but they cannot be opened. There is a sign that says this is for "safety" and to "keep rodents out".
This whole area was owned by a hotel chain. There are other abandoned buildings on the property including a restaurant, clubhouse and other units. Sorry to say we would not rent here again.
