Love this place!

This is our second time renting the property and we've enjoyed it immensely both times. It's clean, quiet and close to the beach. Highly recommend it.

Great place and good location

The property was really clean and adorable. Jorge was easy to communicate with, kind, and prompt. We enjoyed the big, open kitchen, the layout of the casita and appreciated the comfortable bed. We were both impressed with the water pressure and hot temperature in the shower. Having the gear shed next to our casita coupled with the short walk to the launch sets this place apart. It was also really quiet. We’ll definitely be back!

Palapa La Choya

Jorge is a great host, very accommodating and his place is amazing. We absolutely loved the well appointed outdoor kitchen!!! Our suite was clean and extremely comfortable. Very short walk to the beach and the use of kayaks was an added bonus. We highly recommend staying here. No disappointments whatsoever. Thanks Jorge !!

Beautiful, well maintained property.

Really enjoyed our stay at the Palapas La Choya. Property was so clean and the kitchen was well stocked. We especially enjoyed the 2 refrigerators to keep our beverages cold! Stayed at numerous places during our time on the Baja and this place was the best. Jorge was a considerate and helpful host, left there counting him as a new friend.

Best place I’ve stayed in LV

This place is wonderful. Jorge’s property is clean, quiet, spacious, and has everything you need. With only 3 units, there’s plenty of secure space for guests, parking, gear, meals, and the WiFi actually works well. Excellent beach access, especially for kiters (no rocks or hazards). Also fantastic access to trails for mountain biking and running. Jorge is a fantastic host. We will definitely stay here again and recommend it to all of our friends and family. Thanks.

Great location and people.

Great spot in El Sargento. I'd always stayed in La Ventana but decided to try this and I loved it. Very close to the the north trail system and Punta Gorda trail perfect for hiking, running, and mountain biking. Beach is perfect for kiting and is huge. Minimal rocks on entering water and no need for booties. Locals are approachable and friendly. Daily housekeeper. Kitchen has everything and I used it for most meals. Saw Jorge daily on the beach and is readily accessible.

Wonderful host and home

Jorge was incredible and so was the living space and location. We'll definitely try to stay with Jorge again when we come back! The shared kitchen is amazing, easy beach and mountain bike access in a quiet neighborhood.

Medicine as thatch roof; comfy, aesthetic; a pleasure for peeps who want easy access to the water, a place to rest after some morning paddling or snorkeling, afternoon kiting, a place to grill some fish. Awesome week

We came down for a week to kite board. You couldn't ask for a better location.. Quiet, close to the water, place was immaculate. . Jorge was the ultimate host. Any questions we had were answered and if we needed something he was always there. I highly recommend staying here.

Hidden Gem In El Sargento

Jorge accommodated our last minute 3 night stay. Response was immediate. Excellent host & communicator. The design, care & attention to detail of the casita, villas & grounds were even more beautiful than the photos showed. My wife & I enjoyed the accommodations of Casita Viznaga & wished we could have stayed longer. We've traveled extensively throughout Baja during the last 20 yrs, but this was our 1st time in La Ventana/El Sargento region & fell in love with it. We mentioned to Jorge that we're planning a return trip with friends to rent the casita & villas to be able to enjoy the wonderful outdoor kitchen as well. Thank you Jorge for being such a great host. ¡Nos vemos pronto!

Wonderful host and great kiting beach!

I stayed here solo for a couple of weeks until my boyfriend arrived, and Jorge and his wife made me feel like family. It was cold on a couple of the evenings, and Jorge brought me a big, fleece blanket. He made himself available to his guests for questions and needs at all the right moments - he is a great ambassador for the town. He picks up kiters heading home from "down-winders", helps people on the beach, and is open to suggestions for improving his villas (although they are pretty perfect!). Thank you Jorge for a great vacation!

Beautiful authentic place

We stayed here with our kids (1 and 3 yrs) and loved it. The architecture and lay out of the palapa is well designed, earthy and tasteful. Nice ocean view from the shower, with great pressure. The owner provided a travel cot for the baby and the toddler slept on the sofa cushions. The outdoor kitchen has everything including a built in grill. Great for eating in, since restaurants here can have long waits for kids. The house has no stairs and only smaller steps, so very practical with little ones. The yard is fully fenced and was safe for the kids to play in. They just played in the coarse sand with their beach toys all the time. We loved the beautiful cactuses, flowers and birds. One block down to the beach, with a palapa that provides shade for the little ones, a self launch set up and kayaks. Snorkel gear and bikes also available. Fun dirt roads to bike, short ride to the supermarket and fresh fish store too. Just a short car ride away from restaurants. Wonderful neighborhood of local people that you meet on the beach every day, yet still pretty quiet on the water kitesurfing. One of the few spots without rocks in your launch area. Owner Jorge was responding to email questions very quickly and was very helpful when I Skype called him before and after booking. He was also very helpful with great tips during our stay. Overall wonderful relaxing experience.

Did not stay there, however the owner (Jorge) found my wife's kite board along the beach (she had lost it out in the water). He made the effort to carry it all the way back to his place, and then made two international phone calls to get the board back to us. Jorge is an extremely considerate individual who speaks perfect english. Thank you Jorge!

Heat? What Heat?

Well, yes, it was hot. But that's what you get when you go stay on the Sea of Cortez in late July. But it was also lots of other things. This is, in short, a great address, especially for those looking for a well built, well maintained, well managed property a bit off the beaten path. (In fact the beaten path is a dirt road that winds through the dusty town of El Sargento, so I'd heartily recommend throwing down the extra $$ needed for a 4-wheel drive.) While it's not directly on the beach, the Sea of Cortez is just a few hundred meters away, an easy enough walk on an access road/path among neighboring properties. There you'll find abundant snorkeling and, I'm told in the winter months, world-class windsurfing. This property is probably best to visit in the late fall/winter, if you can catch it at the right time before it gets too windy (unless you're into that sort of thing). It's built in such a way that the open kitchen between the two bungalows provides a sheltered and convivial spot for cooking and socializing. The palapas themselves bear all the hallmarks of quality and thoughtful construction--intimate, clean, marginally austere spaces that feel like vacation and deep relaxation. If the heat gets bothersome, the industrial-strength air conditioner takes care of business. And fear not las cucarachas--Jorge, the owner, is meticulous about cleanliness and the comfort of his guests. A further word about Jorge: A better host you will never meet. He's exceptionally welcoming, accommodating, interesting, and all-around helpful. You need a rash guard to ward off the stinging denizens of the sea? No problem. You need pointers on where to go for groceries or the best fish/fishing/fish watching? You bet: Jorge's the man. (His wife Mariu is great, too, though we didn't have a chance to get to know her much, since she didn't speak any English, and our Spanish may as well not exist.) His attention to detail is remarkable and is everywhere in evidence--and this place will only get better over time, as Jorge's commitment to it is for the long haul. You may indeed find more luxurious accommodations in the area, but I sincerely doubt you'll find a better, more authentic experience. If you're considering Baja's east side, you'd be sorely remiss if this address didn't figure somewhere near the top of your list.

We went to Palapas La Choya looking for a romantic get away, to rest and to be far from the city and everything else, to have a moment for us. It was perfect, they're perfectly ubicated, just a block from the beach, also they have activities like snorkeling, kayak and bikes. The rooms are exactly as yo see them in the pictures, the kitchen is perfect, everything looks like new and Jorge an Mariu are the best, they're always concern for their guests and making everything confortable and perfect for us. We really enjoyed our stay on Palapas la Choya.

An Excellent Place to Stay

We are currently staying at Palapas la Choya and are loving it. The facilities are top notch, Jorge has a good eye for quality. Kitchen is beautiful, awesome shower and great room with lots of character. One block from the beach and in a peaceful neighbourhood. Jorge is very attentive to any requests. He runs a fantastic place and I hope to be back.
