Waterfront home on Smith Mountain Lake with private dock.

2 living rooms, one with pull out queen size sofa,2 fireplaces, deck, screened porch, garage, master bedroom has queen size bed and attached bath with jacuzzi.

Two single bedrooms have full size beds. Spare bedroom has two twin beds. Both living rooms, dining room, and all but 1 single bedroom have views of the lake. Air conditioned, the house has a laundry room. Decks overlooking the lakes , a hammock and a new propane barbecue complete the enjoyment.

Why Craig Erkkila chose Smith Mountain Lake

People that I had worked with told me about Smith Mountain Lake, a clean, deep lake with great Bass fishing. I went on the usual real estate agent tour, saw swampland, dense forest homes and steep precipice properties. When I saw this house, I had to buy it.

Located on a quiet gravel road, a nice comfortable brick house overlooking the water, enough slope to give views but not so steep to require ropes. Each lot on the road is private enough to enjoy the tranquility of the lake.

What makes this house unique

I like to enjoy the views at breakfast, boat and swim and fish throughout the day, barbeque, enjoy dinner with a lakefront view and finally, hang out with the wife on the screened in porch or watch a movie on DirectV.

Great times to be had!

What a great home/property! No complaints at all. Very clean, well-stocked kitchen. We had no problems with any dampness/cooling issues in basement. Ideal place for family vacation, especially if you have a boat. Nice pier in quiet cove to dock boat, or simply lounge on/swim from. The only thing we found that we didn't like were many ticks in the yard... not the owner's fault :) Liked it so much, we're coming back again this year.

Nice home, but cold/damp lower level.

First impressions were great. Super clean, well-stocked kitchen, comfortable furnishings, but lower level (3 bedrooms and sitting area) was cold and damp (so damp even swim suits and towels wouldn't dry overnight). Needs at least a dehumidifier and/or separate AC for upper and lower levels. Quiet private cove was great for swimming/boating. We were hoping this would be our go-to summer rental, but sadly, lower level was too uncomfortable.

Owner's Response: Almost all that was said is accurate, except for the dampness in the lower level. We have never had a complaint about dampness in the lower level in the 18 years we have rented the property. I stayed there for a week only two weeks prior to the traveler. There was no dampness problem. There were no complaints from the traveler during their stay. Only after their stay did they complain and request money back. Previous to renting the property, they had asked for a discount. My cleaner/inspector said that the condensate was flowing like a garden hose out of the AC evaporator discharge hose. This has never happened. On a central AC unit the moisture is taken out of the air. Once the air is cool and dry, condensate rarely comes out of the discharge hose. I confronted the tenant, saying that they ran the AC with the windows open. That would cause such a condition as well as coldness and dampness on the lower level, as it is a one zone AC unit with the thermostat upstairs. The tenant denied having any windows open. But my cleaner/inspector said that the large vertical Anderson window in one of the downstairs windows was wide open and difficult to close, but she got it closed. Additionally, i had repaired some door shelves on the refrigerator before the tenant arrived. The tenant complained that the shelves were broken. I wonder how that happened. I am sorry that the subsequent tenants will have to deal with that damage. Additionally, clothing should be dried on a line or in a dryer. I certainly hope that the tenants did not lay their swimsuits on our coal stove, causing it to rust.
