Great view and value

  • 5 of 5

Our families have enjoyed several nice long weekends at this lovely home. The views of the Lake and mountains are spectacular and the house is located on a quiet road, which was nice, as well. Lots of room to spread out. The master bath is particularly nice with jetted tub. Rustic charm with modern conveniences...only wish we could have stayed longer and more frequently. The rental management company is very friendly and accommodating.

Great Location/Poor Maintenance

  • 3 of 5

Pros:

Great view from dock of lake and mountains. Swimming off dock great fun. House is nice with room for 10. Our four grandchildren had fun kayaking, paddle boarding and tubing.

Cons: Two garbage pails were provided for the week. This isn't enough for 10 people. When we arrived garbage was strewn all over the fenced area. Apparently the previous renters filled the pails and left excess bags outdoors and they were attacked by crows. They were supposed to leave them inside in the laundry room but this idea wasn't good either because it gets too smelly. When we called the rental agent Kim she sent someone over to cleanup and remove the garbage bags.

Dock area was poorly maintained. Covered over with indoor plywood which had warped in places. Two areas were sticking up with nails protruding. Pier area had warped wood and nails protruding which should have been replaced. My son took a hammer to get them down. The whole dock area wasn't swept so it was covered with leaves. We couldn't find a broom in the house so my son used a Swiffer mop to clear it off. Called rental agent and she sent someone over to check but he couldn't come back till Tuesday. He did repair the items and brought a dustpan and broom. The week we were there it was clean so it showed that this hadn't been done for quite a while. If the outside was maintained I would rate this home higher. Kim is meeting with the owner to discuss these issues. I hope these problems will be corrected.

Come to relax in comfort

  • 5 of 5

We took our family of six (two adults, three college students and a 13 year old) to the house for Memorial Day weekend. The rental agency had a last-minute cancellation, and they were able to offer the property to us for a short stay. After three beautiful days of fishing, swimming, hiking and relaxing, we cannot wait to visit again for a whole week!

Stephanie at the rental office was extremely helpful; I had sent my three older children ahead of time, and she made sure that they were settled in the house and comfortable until the rest of us arrived. The house is clean and well-maintained. All of the rooms are modern, the beds comfortable, and the ammentities great. The large dock was fantastic for swimming, fishing, tanning, or just relaxing by the water. As an added perk, the state park two miles away offers hiking, picnicing and water sport rentals.

Overall we had a great weekend on Smith Mountain Lake, and we look forward to returning again soon!
