Relaxtion and fun defined!

Another 2 weeks at Birch Hill. Seems to be the plan each year so why mess with something that works so well. This year? Lots more time spent at Birch Hill than the past two. Why? Because we just didn't feel the need to leave. We had plenty of everything, since the kitchen is so big with LOADS of storage. My sister decided to do some culinary experiments, which we both enjoyed the results of.

We did get in a couple of days of Netflix watching during the couple rainy we could both catch up on shows we'd missed. We did get out a few times for lunch and dinner with family and friends in the area.

We had a few relatives come spend a couple nights with us and they also totally enjoyed the property. Especially talking about the sandy beach by the dock and took advantage of the kayaks and canoes. Had a couple late nights out on the porch playing cards and talking.

We are already looking forward to coming back again next year!

👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻We had the best family vacation ever at Birch Hill 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

  • 5 of 5

We had an absolutely wonderful time at Birch Hill. The weather was perfect, we had a great swim every morning, then went out for a little adventure each day, and came back for another refreshing swim before nightly cook outs.

The house was fantastic, and is exactly how we would build our dream house. Maybe a couple rooms with all knotty pine instead of painted walls....but it was absolutely beautiful and the best floor plan I've ever seen. The house was much larger than our own home, and we really stretched out.

Everytime we thought of something we forgot to magic---there it was. The house was located within an easy drive of all the regular New Hampshire white mountain attractions, which was perfect for us and our little guy. We stopped at Sherman's farm every day for milk, salad greens, and strawberries. Ok fine....and to pet and feed their goats! What a lovely little farm store and friendly folks.

The only possible negative I can think of, was no cell signal anywhere in that area, and that wasn't a negative for us---but be advised if you head up that way, and need to keep in contact with someone. Most smart phones can be set up as wifi hot spot, or enabled wifi calling as ours did. We switched to wifi calling---just for peace of mind. I haven't used a regular house phone in years--and wouldn't even know how to work their wall phone unit. Looked like you crank it or something, in case you need to ring up Mabel, and have her patch you through to Andy and Barney--not sure if it was a party line. 😂😂😂. Lovely antique....the whole house was filled with some really neat things to read and look at.

The only other negaitve thing is the secret is out from big mouths like me raving about Chris and Carol's beautiful slice of heaven on earth. We are in love and went to book another week later this summer, but it was booked full. 😳🔫

We will plan to head up for another week or 2 next year for sure. We spent most of our time hitting the old favorites in NH, and didn't really get to explore Maine attractions. Time ran out so fast, I couldn't believe when Friday night came, quite depressing that our flirtation with paradise was so fleeting. Alas, we shall return.

Thanks you folks for opening up your home for others to share, it was truly wonderful.

Owner's Response: Hi Mark - We're thrilled that you and your family enjoyed Birch Hill. We built it with three generations of our family working together (mostly) so we particularly love it when other families enjoy the place. The antique phone on the wall opens and has a touch tone phone inside, set up for unlimited long distance. Now you know for next time! Thank you for renting with us, and please come back!

We're BACK to the Quiet Paradise!

  • 5 of 5

How to update things from last year's review? Well, first, we obviously came back. The property is so awesome, as are the owners, we just had to do it again this year. And this time, we brought others, who also loved it.

2 weeks without a cell phone ringing, but feel free to watch a movie or show via Netflix on the smart TV. Listen to the rain on the metal roof. Enjoy a ride up Mt. Washington on the Cog Railway. Go for a swim in one of the nicest lakes in Maine AND New Hampshire. Have dinner in North Conway with the rest of the tourists....but remember, the best place is HOME, at Birch Hill.

Already working on figuring out next year's weeks, so yeah, we'll be back AGAIN!

Owner's Response: Thank you for the great review Kevin! We are thrilled that you enjoy Birch Hill as much as we do. Your reference to Lower Kimball being situated in both Maine and NH reminded my of many exchanges like this: ' "How far did you swim today?" "To New Hampshire!" ' Hope to see you in 2016!

I just returned from a week at Birch Hill, and I loved every second! The cottage is charming, and the kitchen is stocked with everything you could possibly need. The lake is so close, and it is pleasant to sit on the screened in porch and look at the water. My sister-in-law's family came for dinner, and it was fun to entertain in this cottage! The family that owns Birch Hill is so nice to work with, and all of my emails were answered promptly. I have been going to the area each summer for the last five years, and this is my favorite rental, by far!!!!

Quiet Paradise!

  • 5 of 5

The pictures do not do this place justice! My sister and I really enjoyed spending 2 weeks here in July. Great that we each had our own bathroom. The kitchen is HUGE! Plenty of places to just sit and enjoy the day. The front porch is really great! Definite plus during the buggy part of the summer.

The lake? It's an easy walk down to the dock. There is a cool zip up tent near the dock area on a flat wooden platform. How cool to just sit and enjoy a beverage and watch the sunset, or read a book, etc. And this happens to be where you might get a cell signal. Not that you'll need it. Lots to do with swimming, kayaking, canoeing, etc....or go enjoy North Conway, which is 20 min away. If you can, take the Cog up Mt. Washington!!

The best part of it all? It's sooo quiet. You really do get away from things, but still have some pleasures there (internet/phone), etc.

We will be back!
