Hood Canal 2 B/R Waterfront Cabin. Sleeps 6.

Bedrooms 2
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 1 - 2 nights

About the property

Cabin, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4-6)

Welcome to Shep's Castle, your perfect vacation cabin on Hood Canal!

Enjoy the sunset while relaxing on the deck of this rustic and charming, 1930's cabin. What a perfect ending to a day of swimming, diving, fishing or just hanging around on a lovely, private cove populated by a few lovely cabins.

This two bedroom cabin is perfect for a small family or just a couple wanting to enjoy the solitude of our lovely home. The master has a queen bed and beautiful maple floors and a gorgeous cedar cathedral ceiling. The 2nd bedroom has a double bed and there is a foldout futon in the living room. It is an open floor plan, perfect for a romantic getaway or small family. My cabin is just 25 steps from the water, over a nice grassy lawn that is owned by the county. One night & Two night rates are available, please inquire :)

Dogs are allowed, there is a $20/night pet fee.

Please note: due to the size of the accomodations, Shep's Castle may not accommodate all sizes of guests. It is not tiny by any means, but a cozy little cabin. It has been brought to my attention that the approx 3' by 3' shower is too small for some of the larger guests who have stayed.

We are located just minutes away from Hoodsport, just one cove North of the famous dive spot, Octopus Hole. And just a short drive from Mason Lake and the Olympic National Park.

About Cynthia Reid

I love to hike, fish, swim and play near the water. Having grown up in a small town, living in the city can be quite a challenge for me. Spending time at the cabin is a great way for me to relax and unwind with my daughter and my two little pups.

Cynthia Reid purchased this cabin in 1999

Why Cynthia Reid chose Hoodsport

We purchased our vacation home in 1999 and have loved every minute we have spent there. It is one of the rare canal homes that is located off the main highway so it is quiet and peaceful. Now that our daughter is a teenager, we are finding it hard to spend as much time as we'd like there. So we are taking this opportunity to share the beauty and charm of our little cabin with others.

What makes this cabin unique

Shep's Castle is a rare find on the canal. Located off Highway 101, it's a peaceful and quiet setting to relax, unwind, walk the dogs or play like crazy while crabbing, shrimping, fishing, swimming, etc. This place has it ALL!!

Sweet spot and the best sunrises ever

  • 4 of 5

Cynthia thought of everything as she set up this cabin. Cozy, and comfortable. It is an true beach cabin- half old/ half new construction, don't expect mint condition on the older and smaller bedroom. But the new bedroom is beautiful. Kitchen is well supplied.

Great hiking not far from the cabin by Lake Cushman (check out Mt Ellinor). Or stay in and play games and watch the ever changing view. Not much for walks close in as it's mostly private property up and down that stretch of 101.

I've rented many spots on VRBO and HomeAway, many as single times. This is that blend I love of welcoming you without pretention- simply relaxing. I will definitely be back

Rustic, beautiful view and access to shoreline, clean. Worked well for our stay

Thanksgiving timeframe so didn't get to enjoy the property like you could other times of the year. Saw small sea lions and other beautiful wildlife. Great coffee house in hoodsport. With rainy weather would have been nice to have WiFi or cable TV. Neither available

Cute but...

  • 3 of 5

I agree with a previous reviewer. This cabin is very rustic, as in plants/vines growing up into the house from below, rustic. I rented this for a get away for my boyfriends birthday and he was not happy. The main reason for the unhappiness is that despite having to pay a cleaning fee, when you get to the cabin you are left with instructions to fully clean the entire cabin, including sweep and vacuuming or you risk losing your deposit. We spent his entire birthday morning cleaning. Really upsetting.

Owner's Response: I am working very closely with the cleaning crew and visiting the property myself this weekend to remedy this. Please note: when visiting any property if it is not clean up to your standards please let the owner know immediately so they can remedy the situation. Leaving a bad review without giving the owner a chance to make it right seems truly unfair. We are not always in the same area and appreciate SO much when our guests let us know that they need our help. We like to keep our guests happy but there is no way to do this without you letting us know the situation. Cynthia

Great Get Away Weekend

  • 4 of 5

Enjoyed our stay in Hood Canal. The cabin was comfortable and had all the amenities to make a wonderful weekend. Easy directions from the owner lowered anxieties arriving in the dark. Close to several state parks, hiking trails, waterfalls and of course the view from the cabin; seals, birds and water. A great weekend and would recommend this cabin for anyone looking for a weekend get away.

Quaint but flawed cabin with a view

  • 2 of 5

We enjoyed our stay here overall, but there are some factors that make this rental either quaint or unsatisfactory depending on your perspective. Most/all of this has been covered in other reviews. For how much we spent with fees I expected more.

High points: kitchen well-stocked with dishes and utensils. Bed was comfortable. Room to park. The view is outstanding. The master bedroom was nice. The shower was hot and clean.

Low points: Arrived on a cold day to a frigid house with two space heaters for heat. After a few hours warming up it did stay warm enough. We wanted to start a fire in the woodstove but due to other reviews explaining you will be charged a big fee for firewood we did not. Floor is uneven and burned/stained. One door and wall in the 2nd "bedroom" are made out of chipboard. Bathroom was tiny. 2nd bedroom is more like a closet with a bed in it. Cleaning staff left dirty paper towels in the sink and no garbage can liner in the bathroom. Owner expects the renter to do all of the cleaning, so not sure why the relatively high cleaning and additional travelers fees in the first place. TV is tiny.

This would be a decent rental for 2 people on a nice weekend but the price is still high for what you get.

Owner's Response: As you know, reviews can make or break a vacation rental's bookings and I am always trying to do my best to accommodate my guests and make sure they are happy with their stay. This is my family vacation home and I am always happy to share it with guests. Please know that if I had been made aware of any problems or if you had any questions I would have made sure to take care of any issues right away. My cleaning lady lives very near Shep's Castle and would have gladly come right over to make sure the cabin was cleaned to your standards and to take care of the overlooked paper towels. Also, I sincerely do my best to make sure the description of the cabin is accurate. It was built in 1928 and is a small and rustic cabin. I have even made sure to note the small bathroom and that it may not accommodate all sizes of guests. There is always plenty of wood and kindling next to the fireplace for the indoor fireplace and I'm sorry you misunderstood the rules about bringing your own wood for the outdoor pit. I find it unfair to give a poor review about something that I was given no chance to remedy and also to give a poor review about things that are listed in the description. I have done and continue doing research into pricing and have found that the rates I charge are very reasonable as is the cleaning fee, which is what I pay my cleaning lady. And tidying up when you leave is quite normal in the vacation rental business and is also just good manners. I'm sorry you were so unhappy with your stay I only wish you had called so I could have taken care of any issues right away. Sincerely, Cynthia Reid
