Nice little Villa

  • 4 of 5

Our family has been to Kiawah Island for Spring break the past 4 years and we have stayed in 4 different villas through out the Island. This wasn't the best and it wasn't the worst. In fact, we will probably stay here again next year. It's close to the Market and Night Heron pool/park and not too far from the beach. It was also great for biking and walking our Cavalier King Charles Spaniel who also loves Kiawah. The villa could use some updating for sure as far as appliances, utensils and general up keep goes. The washing machine just quit working on the last day and left me with a load of sopping wet clothes to go across the street to spin out in my sister in law's villa. The blender didn't work either, but other than that the place was great. I wasn't expecting The Four Seasons or The Ritz Carlton. I called to have someone take a look at the washer and someone was sent out right away to take the water out of the machine. I was just glad I didn't need the machine anymore. The seat on the toilet in the guest bathroom was still loose. Luckily my dad had a screwdriver and he fixed it himself. No big deal. The sheet situation could be better, but we dealt with that. It might help if someone goes through it as if they were a guest and checks things out. The drawer in the master bathroom is nearly impossible to pull out. Over all though, I was still pleased with the villa and my family was clean and comfortable staying there. As mentioned before, we will most likely seek this villa out next year for Spring Break because of all it has to offer, including full resort amenities!

Disappointing...

  • 1 of 5

First, I have to say that Kiawah is beautiful and offers anything you can imagine for a relaxing vacation. Kiawah Island Golf Resort is amazingly well cared for...the restaurants fantastic and other amenities impeccable. We especially liked the shuttle option , especially to go to the resort restaurants.

But, this brings me to review this villa... It seemed somewhat obvious that the owners must never stay there because I can't imagine anyone allowing their property to become so dilapidated that they could comfortably charge anyone to stay there.

Here is a short list of items that I found to be significant:

1. There were 4 light bulbs burned out, 2 of them very obvious in the dining room chandelier.

2. Peeling paint and mold in the Master bath

3. Mold on the shower liners of ALL bathrooms

4. Broken toilet paper holder in guest bath

5. All appliances in poor condition - i.e. broken drawer of stove, lower shelf of dishwasher had no rolling stop mechanism, dryer took over an hour to dry a medium load of lightweight clothes, etc.

6. No kitchen towels

7. Minimal kitchen dishes/utensils - we had to run the dishwasher 1-2 times per day to accommodate our party of 4 adults who generally only ate one meal per day at the villa.

8. Poor condition of kitchen utensils - we had to purchase a sharp knife as any that were provided wouldn't cut warm butter.

9. Not enough bath towels to accommodate our group of 4 adults.

10. The villa was not clean! I don't appreciate finding long dark hair EVERYWHERE, especially since I have short blond hair. There were potato chips on the floor surrounding the doing table and crackers on the kitchen floor. Not to mention the layer of grime on the frame of the mirror in the Master bath. YUK!

11. And REALLY? No fitted sheets on any of the beds! I despise having to get up in the middle of the night to remake my bed simply because I turned over! P.S. Queen-sized flat sheets DO NOT work on a King bed in any way, shape or form!

12. Loose/broken toilet seat in the guest bath.

In short, all of these items SHOULD be seen during a quick housekeeping inspection. Obviously that is not being done regularly, if at all. I am sure that we will return to the Kiawah Island Golf Resort. However, we will not return to this villa and I would not recommend it unless it were to go thru a thorough cleaning and update.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your comments. I would like to personally apologize for the condition in which you found the accommodation. The property has been walked by our Property Management team and Resort Housekeeping Manager to address all issues that were a challenge. Good or bad, we appreciate all comments and take them seriously. This is a highly requested unit in which the ball was dropped in between rentals. Housekeeping Management and the Property Manager are working diligently to ensure this doesn't happen again.
