Nobody's on the fence about this lil' border town
In Del Rio, a little swim across the Rio Grande will put you in Acuna, Mexico. And with Del Rio vacation rentals, you can experience the colorful intersection of Mexican and American cultures and history all around the city, whether it's some tasty Tex Mex cuisine or a glass of red at the state's oldest winery. And not only does this desert landscape have some really cool rock formations, it also has an oasis in the form of Lake Amistad, a sprawling body of water with wildlife, activities and more.
Do it up cowboy style at a Del Rio winery or rodeo
Get a taste of the ol' wild west at Whitehead Memorial Museum, a 9-building complex in the downtown area. Or savor some history and Sangiovese at Val Verde Winery, the state's oldest winery. Lake Amistad and Amistad National Recreation Area are the area's top outdoor attractions, and many Del Rio vacation rentals are near or on the lake. If you head a little further west, you can see Native American rock paintings and cave art at Seminole Canyon State Park. When in Texas, take a go at the rodeo, which you'll find at George Paul Memorial Bullriding.
Del Rio's got an artsy scene and awesome Tex Mex cuisine
For the fine-art side of life, visit one of Del Rio's art galleries, either on your own time or during the city's monthly art walk. The local restaurants are as authentic as it gets when it comes to Tex Mex, from chimichangas to rich, melty queso. But it's Texas, so the next BBQ joint is never far away. San Felipe Creek runs through the town and creates refreshing swimming spots in a couple of areas. If you'd rather boat, jet-ski, hike, fish or camp, Lake Amistad and Amistad Recreational Area are waiting for you.
Holy sunshine, it's hotter than a stolen tamale here.
Y'all need to ready yourselves for some triple digit heat, because it's a regular occurence in sunny Del Rio. From May to September, temperatures average in the mid 90s, while January hits lows in the 40s. But it's not crazy to get an 80-degree day in the winter either. Also, it's dry. Once in a while, there's a summer shower, but rarely are you gonna get a drenching downpour. Basically, Del Rio's a desert, but with slightly more precipitation. The best times for Del Rio vacation rentals are during the milder months of spring, early summer and fall.
