Our new favorite place to stay in IP for snowmobiling
Mark has the ideal quiet spot at the end of a cul-de-sac that affords direct access to the pond via sled off the back yard or to VAST town trail directly off the driveway. Wood stove went unused as the house is well insulated and cozy despite outside temps. First floor master and 3 BR upstairs can sleep 8. Lots of space is available to spread out. You'll find the owner attentive and accommodating.
Beautiful setting, wonderful lake house, just right for a vacation
I have rented many vacation homes and this one is the best I've experienced. It is extremely well-designed to take advantage of the lovely lake-front setting. It has exceptional carpentry throughout. It is meticulously maintained, stocked with comfortable furniture (especially the beds), and has tasteful touches throughout. The owners obviously pay attention to all the details. The house is convenient and comfortable. It is stocked with everything you can think of. The kitchen is well designed and well supplied with everything you might need. The super-sized washers and driers in the basement make laundry a breeze. The very large lawn slopes gently to the lake which has a gently sloping shore-line with a sandy bottom. The long pier is great for sitting or launching the canoe, kayaks, paddle boards, and paddle boats that come with the property. My sister enjoyed the diving platform located a short swim from the pier. There is an incredible kids' playhouse that adds a nice design element to the beach-front because it is so beautiful. This place is very dog-friendly. Lots of room in the lawn for them to play with a very accessible swimming area. The furniture on the porches, screened dining area, and lake-front are practical, comfortable, and light for easy arrangement. For those who can't do without their media fix, the wifi works great and there are large screen TVs in all of the bedrooms, the living room, and a bonus den-like room with futons. We were not tempted to turn on a TV ourselves, but if that is your thing, they are well-located for easy watching. One of my sisters did have to do a tele-conference for work while we were there and she had no problem (except for having to work during vacation!). There is not much cell phone service at the house, but the land-line in the house can be used for everything but international calls at no charge. The location of this property is great for anyone who wants to hike, bike, cross-country ski, snow-mobile, or otherwise enjoy all that the Northeast Kingdom has to offer. We enjoyed the lake-front so much that except for some brief walks we never left. Mark was a great host. He was considerate and very responsive to the very minor questions we had. This place is a real find.
Great place got even better!! 2nd amazing time here.
Back for our second year in a row, this time for 2 weeks as we loved it so much here. For a very detailed review on the many great features please check out my original review after last years stay (eric k submitted Aug 29, 2016). We already knew we loved it but on arriving this year were pleasantly surprised to find several new upgrades which made it even better. The amazing full length back porch now has the half with the dinner tables and grill fully screened in. Literally fully. Mark (the owner) even ran screening UNDERNEATH the deck so there's no chance of any bugs getting in. And sure enough we never had one in there. The screens are high quality full size panels between the posts so nothing obstructs the incredible views of the lake, mountains, and bald eagle who perches nearby. The house also has all new appliances, in the kitchen and new washer dryer downstairs. The original washer dryer are still there as extras and the old fridge is in the garage, providing extra space for food, beer, drinks. This was so great to have especially when you have a large group, as we brought up most of our meals for the 2 weeks. He also added a great outside fireplace down by the waters edge. You can see it in the picture. It has a spot for a fire in the front and the bonus, a pizza oven on the side! We made wood fired pizzas in here twice which were amazing. Mark (who is by far the most gracious, considerate, helpful property owner) even came over our first time to show us how to use the oven. We also forgot a few personal items and Mark got these in the mail to us less than a week after our return. I cant say enough positive things about this property and Mark. Once again the very private place was immaculate and has everything you need. I even needed gas cans to fill my jet ski and Mark had these dropped off the same day I asked if he happened to have any. We've stayed in many rental properties over many years, this is by far the best spot. That's why we already reserved next year too. Again please scroll down and read my original review for more details, if you need em!
We've been renting this camp for several years and each year there have been updates which have made the camp more beautiful. The wood fire pizza oven was a great idea! Luckily the weather during our stay was perfect.
Looking forward to next year.
Can't rent a better place than this on IP
This was our 4th year renting this house and it gets better every year. Every year we've stayed here upgrades have been made. Loved that half the back porch was screened in. We ate every meal out there Bug free. The new appliances were a bonus. Truly home away from home anything you need is already there. So peaceful sitting on the back porch watching the Eagle fly over and the Loons catching fish. Will definitely be back again
An amazing place to spend quality time with family.
I cannot say enough amazing things about this property and the experiences that our family has had here. Mark, the owner, is exceptionally accommodating and pays phenomenal attention to detail in everything that he does. Modern, clean, and very well constructed, this place is truly a gem of a rental property in the Northeast Kingdom.
It has every amenity that you could hope for, from a fully stocked kitchen with a Keurig, to a full arsenal of board and yard games. Mark also provides kayaks, canoes, a small boat, and life vests for every age. We pretty much spend our entire week waking up and heading out on the water, catching good sized smallmouth bass and brown trout all day, then playing yard games every afternoon and evening. The screened in porch and brick pizza oven were great additions this year, and the whole family loves spending time in the hammocks. Getting to watch bald eagles fly around the pond and catch their meals this year was a very cool bonus.
This is the second year that our extended family has come here, with 4 generations spending most of the week together. This year, we even brought our dog, who absolutely loved it here. There is plenty of room for 10 people to coexist without feeling crammed. There's not a ton of things to do in the immediate area, but there are small grocery and convenience stores, with some decent restaurants, and that has been just fine for our family. If you're looking for a peaceful week enjoying simplicity on the water, with a large group of people, I simply cannot imagine finding a better place than this.
Island Pond, located in the Town of Brighton, is known to be a beautiful and quiet Northeast Kingdom town. Perhaps one of Vermont’s best kept secrets, Island Pond’s natural beauty consists of pristine Island Pond Lake, the historical district and Bluff Mountain. Together they provide many recreational activities throughout the year. With miles of trails and wide open spaces, Island Pond has become the Snowmobile Capital of Vermont. Tourists can also enjoy other outdoor activities including fishing, hunting, swimming, hiking, biking, canoeing, horseback riding, cross-country and downhill skiing, and scenic lake cruises. In the fall, the foliage offers spectacular scenery for outdoor enthusiasts. In the winter, there are plenty of snowmobile trails to enjoy. One of the town’s major annual events is the Fourth of July celebration featuring a parade, music in the park, arts and crafts, vendors, games, fireworks and more. Friday Night Live every Friday night June through August. Island Pond is famous internationally for being one of the first international railroad junctions in the United States, and our often-photographed railroad station. The town experienced economic growth in 1853 when the St. Lawrence and Atlantic Railroad (the first international railroad), included Brighton as the stop between Portland, Maine and Montreal, Canada. We Also have a fine library and a wonderful lake side state park.
