Top rated Lake Austin spa is minutes away, rent paddle boards at the park down the road, or paddle our kayaks to the nature preserve across the lake and hike up to a waterfall. Our sand volleyball court is regulation size, we have a water trampoline, and diving board. But the serenity of this property may lead you to R&R and forgo all that activity - the screened in porch with antique iron day beds and desk beckons as a writer's retreat. Custom built with cedar flooring and rugged beams. Feels like middle of nowhere but great restaurants (sushi, Mexican, Steiner Ranch Steakhouse) are in the neighborhood, famous sunsets at the Oasis on Lake Travis 7 miles away, and 30 minutes from downtown Austin.

About Shelly Priebe
I grew up in a dreadfully nondescript area of Illinois (cornfields) but my parents wanted more than anything to live on the water and even though they earned a modest income as teachers they succeeded! In third grade we moved into a lakefront home in Central Illinois and it was THE gathering place for my friends as I grew up. They gave me the gift of prioritizing a water based lifestyle. Chuck and I bought this property when we got engaged in 1988 and our 4 children ages 22 to 9 relish the lifestyle I did as a child.
Shelly Priebe purchased this House in 1988
Why Shelly Priebe chose Lake Austin Village
We fell in love with this ethereal part of Lake Austin and bought our home in 1988. It was 2 BR/1Bath with gold shag carpet and we were in heaven. Have added on to our home many times and we built the guest house in 2004 hoping to lure out of state grandparents. We failed at that but have loved being able to host many travelers, church youth retreat weekends, you name it!
What makes this House unique
Every piece of furniture hand picked over time from visits to the semi-annual Round Top antique fair except for the custom made cedar dining table with benches. Nothing matches but everything soothes in this eclectic and comfortable home. Want some activity? A sand volleyball court awaits. Or kayak across the lake and hike up to a waterfall.

hosts are very helpful
Your family sure seemed to be having lots of fun. The kids were almost immediately on the water trampoline and soon the grown ups, too! I had long work days during your stay, so barely got to see you, but the glimpses looked like you were living it up on the lake!
Love/ I’ll be back.
We enjoyed our time there. My doggie daughter Bree enjoyed playing with Dude. (Shelly’s Lab) We loved the lake and the fishing. I’m not much on reviews; I will say this, we will be back. Shelly was the best!
BTW my first time trying this; HomeAway. First time to Lake Travis too.
It felt like Amanda and I had always been neighbors. I looked forward to our chats when I got home from work and we crossed paths. Just for clarification, we live on Lake Austin, but Lake Travis dams into Lake Austin just three miles upstream for us. Maybe all the fish were in Lake Travis Amanda?! :)
AMAZING, RELAXING, THE PERFECT FAMILY RETREAT
Thank you for the wonderful stay, Shelly and Chuck! You were so kind and attentive! Your home is the ideal layout and came with everything that we needed. The candles made it so inviting. We especially enjoying lounging on the dock in the evening and getting in some exercise on the kayaks! Excited to return again soon! The Rivera Family
Come back soon. Love that you shared your mimosas - it is a wonder I ever went away. ~Shelly
House is cute but we were expecting more.
When I booked the trip I did not realize we were sharing the property with the owner. We have never stayed anywhere that we were not alone for our visit, Shelly and her family are very friendly and nice, however, my husband wanted privacy, alone time and a place to ourselves. It was difficult for my husband to fish with the dog always jumping in the water scaring the fish, I realized we might have been able to ask to keep him away but it seemed harsh. The docks were not in very good shape, they are warped and worn and the one with the diving board did not look safe to walk on, even though it was. The house was as expected, it was cute and comfy, however, it was not cleaned well, the floors were dusty and there were items left under the bed upstairs which were not ours. I feel like it should have been very clean for the price we paid for cleaning. The third night of our stay, I experienced three live roaches crawling around, two of which were in the bedroom I slept in. Shelly offered to have her husband spray if we left for two hours and have pest control come the following day, however, I was not comfortable with having to leave and come back to the chemicals as well as the bugs coming out even more from spraying. We left two days early because of all I stated. We enjoyed the water trampoline and docks while we were outside.
I am sure sorry the stay did not meet your expectations, after you left early because you saw a cock roach I didn't expect 5 star! :) Our pest control comes religiously every two months and they were due the day you left. We pay a contract price so that they will always come between scheduled visits if we see any activity, and none of our back to back bookings before your reported any sitings.
We definitely noticed your husband cherished quiet. The one time I checked in with him I could tell he wanted solitude, so we tried to stay as out of the way and unobtrusive as possible. Sounds like our lab didn't get that memo, and for that I do owe apology. He likes to visit with our visitors, but I can always make a point of keeping him inside.
I hope you were still able to chisel out some nice family memories before your kids went back to school. Moms juggle a lot, and its not always easy to make everyone happy. Know you tried!!
Beautiful and peaceful surroundings on the the river!
We really appreciated the rest and relaxation! The Guest House is nestled in the treetops and has a beautiful view of the river! We sat on the dock and saw many varieties of birds! Great restaurants close by any close to Austin activities! Thank you to Shelly and Chuck for sharing your slice of heaven with us!
Love to see people enjoy the place as much as we do. Wait, or more......we have to go to work while our lovely visitors play!! Shelly :)
Wonderful week and lifetime memories
Had a wonderful time. Great place for kids. The river/lake for swimming, kayaking, setting on the dock enjoying nature.
Shelly and Chuck have created a wonderful getaway spot.
Had the Grandsons for the week. It was like going to summer camp with them. They did not want to leave.
The house is comfortable and has a very good feeling about it. It is a second story and you have to go up a flight of stairs to get to it, but with the large windows you feel like your in a treehouse.
This was our second stay in three years. We will be back next summer.
