This residential home located right in the heart of Famed 6th Street Entertainment District is protected as a Historical Landmark and was carefully restored into a Mid-Century Modern Home by renowned Austin architect David Graeber.

Back in the early 1880's, Austin was new and growing. This building was the home to Shamrock Saloon constructed by an Irish immigrant while the Texas State Capitol was being built just a few blocks away. Shamrock Saloon served the community for many years.

However over the years, 6th Street went through a step decline in the late 50's and early 60's as locals opted for more suburban shops and business. Many of these original 6th Street stone buildings were abandoned and forgotten.

David Graeber bought 410 E 6th Street in 1968 as a run down, falling in, non-habitable shell of a structure. You should see the photo album in the home - you won't believe the transformation. He had a dream of a downtown, city dwelling lifestyle for himself and his family.

In the late 70's he completed a strikingly modern interior that sits in great contrast to the original stone facades. Many of the interior spaces are just as David created them 4 decades ago. It is a time capsule with references to times and lives lived over 130 years in this one location.

This one-of-kind home has been featured in many magazines and articles. Many drinks and good times have been had in this special place from the Shamrock Saloon to private Graeber family parties to public events.

David Graeber once said 'Our life has been immeasurably enriched by living here.'

"The lovely people at Top Trip Rentals were very pleasant, wonderful to work with, and knowledgable about this historic site as well as the surrounding neighborhoods. Honestly the pictures don't even do it justice--this place is more than a mansion, it's a unique architectural gem right in the heart of the madness of 6th St. In a house filled with hip paintings/sculptures and ultra-modern furnishings, it almost feels like you're staying in a work of art. To have 30-foot ceilings with skylights/atriums, the natural lighting is amazing--giving the main room and pool room an outdoor feel without being in the triple-digit heat of Austin. Location is perfect. If you want to be part of the madness--step outside and get weird on dirty 6th. It's not every day you see a man in a thong, wearing a Texas flag as a cape, arguing with a gospel troupe sporting a 10-foot cross. Of course, if you'd prefer to go upscale or a bit more unique than college bars/burgers, there are amazing restaurants, lounges, etc. only a short 10-minute walk away to W. 6th, Warehouse District, and Rainey. All the amenities you need--multiple kitchens (but why cook with all the food in Austin), washer dryer (and plenty of towels for the pool), and sleeping room for more than I could even count. It's expensive, but worth every dime for the location, experience and amenities. If you have a decent-sized group, it's not even a question--stay here!"

Incredible Hidden Jewel in the Heart of Austin

You would never expect this mansion to be hidden among the bars and live music in downtown Austin. It felt like I was let in on some super VIP Austin secret, one that even locals of 20 years hadn't heard about.

Some highlights:

Pool - Yes, there's a POOL on 6th street. The photos don't lie.

It's ridiculously quiet. I stayed during a weekday, but Austin is still very much alive on a weekday. The master was overlooking 6th street and I slept like a baby. Extremely comfortable beds!

It has some serious WOW factor. Even if you aren't staying overnight, this is a perfect spot for private events.

Top Trip Rentals were extremely accommodating and went above and beyond. This is an experience I'll share for years to come.
