This light-filled and airy cabin, Red Pines Lodge, radiates hospitality and comfort, and is the essence of 'roughing it in style'. The cabin is situated in a beautiful forest of tall Ponderosa pines, firs, and aspens, just 1.5 miles from the heart of Duck Creek Village. Outside you’ll appreciate the rustic log construction, and plenty of parking. The enormous wrap-around covered deck features a gas grill, dining for 6, and seating for all to enjoy the cool breezes, glimpses of the Pink Cliffs, or morning coffee while watching the sun rise. In the evening, sit around the backyard firepit on log benches, and make s'mores and memories under the stars.

Inside, you’ll love the striking tongue and groove knotty pine walls throughout the house, as well as the columns and railings made from native aspen. Cathedral windows bathe the Great Room in light. Here you can enjoy a cozy fire in the woodstove that sits on its stone hearth, while you relax with a book, TV, or surround-sound music. Also on the Main Level you’ll find the outsized and well-equipped kitchen with dishwasher, microwave, and a gas range for the gourmet cook; the Dining area with seating for 6-8; a pretty guest bedroom with a queen bed and private door onto the deck; and a full bath.

On the upper level is a beautiful loft area overlooking the Great Room, and featuring a computer work center ready for you to enjoy the high-speed wireless (throughout the house). Also on the upper level is the huge Master Suite, with its en suite bath including a tiled jetted tub, and a separate shower.

On the lower level is a large and comfy Family Room with tv and lots of seating, and access to the outside patio area. Also on this lower level is the third bedroom (the Buckaroo Room) with two twin beds; a full bath; and the laundry room with washer and dryer.

This cabin can sleep 8 people, using the two queen bedrooms, two twin beds, the queen sofa sleeper in the Great Room. Two additional are possible using a comfortable queen-size inflatable bed that can go anywhere (although we recommend this for children rather than adults). Any occupancy over 8, however, must be approved by the owner prior to rental. Absolutely maximum occupancy is 10, including all children. With three full baths, one on each level of the cabin, there is plenty of access for all. Red Pines Lodge is perfect for a family gathering or a group of friends.

The cabin sits on a level, forested lot, with easy year-round access. National Forest land is only a couple of hundred yards away, and ATV and snowmobile trails are right at hand. Hiking, fishing, biking, skiing, and a myriad of other outdoor activities are all in close proximity as well. Duck Creek and the surrounding area are truly a natural outdoor paradise.

Please note: The cabin has an 10 person maximum, including children and infants, unless approved by owner. A per person charge may apply. We do not rent to “house parties” or unruly groups. We welcome those who will respect our cabin, and the natural environment of Cedar Mountain. If you are looking for a cabin for a smaller number of people, please ask us about Cedar Hollow, our log cabin in Strawberry Valley that accommodates 4-6 people.

Further Details - And Things to Do: Hiking, bicycling, fishing, hunting, ATV fun, snowmobiling, skiing, and horseback riding are just a few of the activities in the area. Aspen Mirror Lake and Duck Creek Pond, popular fishing spots for all ages, are just outside Duck Creek Village and within minutes of the cabin. Navajo Lake, Cedar Breaks National Monument, Brian Head Ski and Summer Resort, and Lake Panguitch are all a short drive away. The many marvels of Zion National Park and Bryce Canyon National Monument are each less than 45 minutes away. And only a little further away are such amazing spots as The Escalante-Grand Staircase National Monument, the North Rim of the Grand Canyon (about 2 hours to the North Rim Lodge and Bright Angel), and Capital Reef National Park. For antique shopping and theater, visit Cedar City (30 mile drive), renowned for its annual Utah Shakespeare Festival in summer and early fall, held on the lovely campus of Southern Utah University.

Places to Go: Duck Creek Village is 1.5 miles to the west of the cabin. Distances from Duck Creek Village to: Aspen Mirror Lake 1/4 mile; Brian Head 23 miles; Bryce Canyon NP 42 miles; Zion Natl Park 45 miles; Cascade Falls 4 miles; Cedar Breaks NM 15 miles; Cedar City / I-15 29 miles; Escalante-Grand Staircase NM (Cannonville entrance) 57 miles; Highway 89, 8 miles; Kanab 49 miles; Las Vegas 198 miles; Mammoth Cave 5.5 miles; Navajo Lake 7.5 miles; Panguitch Lake 32 miles

About Jan or Jim McDaniel, owners

We live near San Diego, California, but we love this area and will never tire of exploring it. And there is no end to the wonders available to explore! This photo of the owners was taken as we hiked in one of hundreds of slot canyons in Escalante-Grand Staircase National Monument, east of Bryce Canyon.

Jan or Jim McDaniel, owners purchased this cabin in 2013

Why Jan or Jim McDaniel, owners chose Duck Creek Village

We have visited and enjoyed many of our nation's parks and wilderness areas. We think Southern Utah is one of the most spectacular areas in the country, with an array of what are some of the most beautiful and accessible national parks and monuments. We have been coming to the area for several years, drawn by the beauty and wide variety of outdoor activities. Five years ago, we finally decided we needed to own a little piece of this incredible place. That was such a good purchase that in 2013 we bought this cabin, our second cabin in Duck Creek, with an eye to living here some day. With breathtaking natural wonders any way you drive, all within close proximity, you can't beat this location. Red Pines Lodge is in a great location, near the Village, and with easy access. It's a beautifully built cabin, has the amenities that make it comfortable, yet it has that rustic, warm feeling we enjoy in a cabin - and think others will too. We love both our cabins - both are welcoming, wonderful places. If you love nature and experiencing the outdoors, as we do, you will be amazed at this part of southern Utah. If you love the feeling of being in a beautiful cabin in the forest, then you will love Red Pines Lodge.

What makes this cabin unique

We love the majesty and beauty of Southern Utah so much that we purchased Red Pines Lodge, our second cabin property in Duck Creek. We also own Cedar Hollow log cabin (also listed on Homeaway/VRBO), in the Strawberry Valley area. It has a special place in our hearts. Most of all, we love sharing this special area with others! We enjoy extending hospitality, sharing our vacation cabins, sharing our knowledge of the area and it's attractions, and making all who stay at our cabins feel welcome and at home. That's our philosophy: to ensure that our guests are comfortable, and welcome, and have a memorable experience. Our brand of hospitality is what makes a stay in either of our cabins unique.

Guestbook comments from the owner

For sixteen years the four of us have visited at least one national park each fall. We always rent a VRBO place. But Red Pines Lodge is one of the very best! Our thanks to Jan and Jim or a great cabin that has everything we needed and was spotless to boot! We used many of Jan's recommendations and she saw to every detail for us! Thanks for a great stay!

I would highly recommend this cabin.

  • 5 of 5

The cabin exceeded our expectations. It had everything you would need plus many other extras.  We brought spices, since we were going to be cooking in most nights, not knowing what to expect but the cabin was fully stocked. The beds were very comfortable and nicely decorated.   Each bathroom had shampoo, conditioner, Q-tips etc, basically everything you would need.  Having a land line was helpful since our cell phone connections some times didn't work.  The wireless internet worked great.   The T.V. had many channels and it also had roku.  The wood burning stove and fire pit had plenty of wood and was a nice treat for the cold nights.  The owner was easy to reach and responded in a timely manner to any inquiries.  She gave pages of helpful information before our trip regarding hikes, grocery stores, places to eat etc. based on what route we were traveling to get there.  Check in instructions were very easy even though we arrived at the cabin after dark.  It was the best vrbo place we have stayed at.

Owner's Response: HI Krissy and All Your Family! I'm so pleased to hear that all of you had a super "family vacation" and a great time in our cabin and in SW Utah. I do feel bad for Cheryl and her mishap, and I hope she's doing better by now. Thanks for the terrific review - your kind words are a big help and much appreciated. I am thrilled we are the best VRBO placed you've ever had - what an honor! I hope we get to welcome all of you back again sometime! Cheers, Jan

The only way to describe this property is PERFECT!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I rented this house for the month of July to escape the heat and humidity of Yorktown, Virginia, and to visit with our daughter and her family who live in Las Vegas. Jan McDaniel, the owner, was the most organized and communicative of any owner we have ever encountered. She provided a wealth of information regarding the surrounding area and we enjoyed many wonderful family outings. The house itself is in an ideal location and is beautifully furnished and completely outfitted. The only thing we needed to bring was our perishable foods - all the rest was there (about a week's supply).

We will definitely will contact Jan again when we return to the area. It's a leap of faith to rent a house "sight unseen" but don't hesitate to rent this house - it is way better than the pictures!

Owner's Response: Elaine, we thoroughly enjoyed having you and your husband live in our cabin for a month! It was a treat to see the photos you sent of all your many explorations and adventures in the area. And I'm really happy your family was able to spend time with you as well. I hope you will decide on another extended stay in SW Utah - and if you do, we'd love to have you back as guests. Cheers, and enjoy the Fall in Virginia!

Cozy retreat...in the middle of it all!

  • 5 of 5

This cabin was truly a home away from home. It is a great central location to multiple parks and so well equipped. Jan could not have done a better job with the small details and touches. It is comfortable, quaint and lovely! We thoroughly enjoyed our time in Duck Creek and also had the opportunity to explore Zion, Bryce, Panguitch, the north rim of the Grand Canyon and Page, AZ. The cabin was such a welcome sight at the end of some very long days of exploring. Jan also provides the best tips and notes for traveling, no need really to do anything else until you get into the parks. We hope to be back again some day, maybe to explore a different season! Thanks Jan and Jim for sharing your beautiful cabin!

Perfect for our family

  • 5 of 5

This home is well designed, and worked for our family reunion group of 6 persons. The owners have anticipated every need of their guests, and the cabin is wonderfully outfitted. Also, other guests have left an incredible amount of staples in the cabin, so whatever you forget, you almost certainly can find in the pantry.

Cheers, and happy hiking! Jan

We had a fabulous time!

  • 5 of 5

We had 3 couples stay last week and we had a great time at the cabin. It was the perfect home base for exploring Bryce and Zion and we also made a trip to the Grand Canyon north rim and Capitol Reef. The cabin was fully stocked with everything we needed and we cooked almost every night in the gourmet kitchen. We spent a lot of time sitting out on the porch just watching the birds and other wildlife. Highly recommend this place!

Wonderful get-away!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of six totally enjoyed our stay at Jim and Jan's beautiful cabin! The cabin had everything we needed and it was very clean, comfortable and cozy. It is located in a beautiful setting surrounded by gorgeous trees and friendly visitors such as the mule deer who liked to greet us in the mornings. Jan's recommendations for hiking trails, eateries, and parks were spot on! The cabin is located almost right in the middle of Bryce Canyon and Zion NP; and it is only a two hour drive to the Grand Canyon. If you are seeking a beautiful setting, picturesque hiking trails, and an ideal location, then I HIGHLY recommend this lovely cabin! My husband is already talking about our next visit!!
