About Melinda

We love adventure and beautiful places. We have been passionate kayakers, mountain bikers, cyclists, fly fishermen and explorers of new places for most of our lives.

Melinda purchased this house in 2005

Why Melinda chose Smoky Mountains

We had the opportunity to purchase this lot in the Stone's Lake community in 2005, which was just too good to pass up! We jumped on the chance and built this home as an investment. This location has a wonderful long history, a beautiful chapel for our closest neighbor and many wild places to explore within just a short drive. This is a paradise location. We created this home to share with others.

What makes this house unique

This is such a quiet and peaceful spot. I love walking the dogs down the road to a little creek with a swimming hole just big enough for cooling them off. Being able to ride your bike from the home to go mountain biking or cycling for the day is amazing.

Great location, clean

We're a mountain biking and motorcycling crew. This was a perfect location for both. The house was neat as a pin and probably the cleanest VRBO I've ever stayed in. Very happy with our stay.

Great getaway secluded and quiet location.

  • 5 of 5

Great location, easy accessible to Dupont State Forest and great biking trails. Beds were very comfortable and linens were plentiful and of high quality. The kitchen is very well equipped and the refrigerator is modern and easily holds all necessities. The washer and dryer were convenient and worked great, even detergent was supplied. The living area and both couches were comfortable. Better reading lamps would have made it a little better but overall our stay was wonderful. Porch great! Would surely like to return!!

Great Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed at Summer Haven for our 10 year anniversary trip to Brevard. We loved the proximity to DuPont State Forest and Pisgah National Forest. It was so nice to ride our mountain bikes and then have a very short drive back to the cabin to shower and clean up. The cabin was very clean and the kitchen was stocked with everything we needed for our stay. The owner checked in with us and made sure we were able to get in the cabin and asked if we needed anything upon our arrival. The cabin is very spacious but not too big and it was tucked away in the woods but was a very short distance from Hwy 276. It was very easy to get to the cabin unlike some other cabins I've stayed at in the mountains were I was worried my SUV might not make it up the hill to the cabin!

One night we ate at Fall's Landing in Brevard which I would highly recommend and then decided to try out Brevard Brewing across the street. We also visited Sycamore Cycles and they were very friendly and helped my husband repair his bike. The Hub is also a great bike shop/outdoor store that has the Pisgah Tavern in with it that serves beer and it is at the entrance to Pisgah National Forest. Brevard is the perfect location because it is about an hour drive to Asheville and a short distance to Hendersonville. The last night of our stay we were exhausted from two days of mountain biking so we decided to order food from Cedar Mountain Café, which is about a 1/2 mile from the cabin. The food was phenomenal and it was so nice to be able to pick up good quality food and bring it back to the cabin.

We would definitely recommend staying at Summer Haven and next time we plan to bring our son and do some hiking in the area.

Great property in fabulous location! Close to everything!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at Summer Haven! Although we weren't at the house very much, it was the perfect spot to come back to unwind and rest after a long day hiking, shopping, and/or exploring! The Cedar Mountain Cafe was the perfect spot for breakfast everyday and Brevard is only a few miles away. We enjoyed hiking many trails, shopping, and even went to Asheville. Thank you for a great vacation! We will definitely return!

Summer Haven (and Cedar Mountain) is surrounded by state and national forests. The home is located in an historic neighborhood and feels very secluded and private. However, you're just a half mile from the main road and even a breakfast/lunch spot (easy to walk to). Check out our video for more visuals!!

There is a true abundance of world class trout streams for fly fishing, crystal clear creeks and rivers for kayaking, hundreds of waterfalls and thousands of acres of forest with hundreds or thousands of miles of trails for hiking, biking, or horse back riding within minutes of this home. This is an outdoor person's paradise!!

Our home is located in the Stone's Lake community of Cedar Mountain. There is a non-denominational historic chapel near by and is a beautiful open air structure occasionally used for weddings on Saturdays and has services on Sundays, Memorial Day thru Labor Day. Cyclists and Mountain Bikers - we have hooks to hang bikes on underneath the covered porch (at the parking level) so your gear can be off your car and out of the rain.
