About Ted Mason

Ted and Bruce have had a longtime love affair with Mexico going back 30 years when they had their first holiday together travelling around the country. Ted's training as an architect haslead to a real passion for the historic architecture of Mexico, especially the builidngs of the 17th and 18th century. Bruce's passion is cooking and there is a rich tradtion of regional cooking in Mexico which he has been exploring for years. Ted learnt spanish in university which allowed them access to many aspects of the country which the average tourist might miss.They are both Canadians from small towns in Canada and appreciate the value of being part of a community. They have found the town of Puerto Vallarta to be especially welcoming and are making friends among both Mexicans and the large ex pat community. Their goal is to retire in Mexico.

Why Ted Mason chose Emiliano Zapata

We fell in love with this property after a friend of ours bought in the building in 2009. Our friiend had lived in San Miguel Allende for years and had built a luxurious bed and breakfast which he operated with his partner. Health problems forced our friend into a more relaxed lifestyle in Puerto Vallarta where he discovered a very welcoming community that had most of the modern conveniences of home along with the interesting contrast of cultures that one finds throughout Mexico. The convenient airline connections to Canada, the top notch health services and the close proximity to the dynamic city of Guadalajara made Puerto Vallarta an excellent mix of amenities and culture. We discovered this for ourselves and decided that our reitrement would be spent here.

What makes this condo unique

When we first bought in Mexico we did have friends who doubted the wisdom of this choice. We were told that perhaps Palm Springs of Hawaii would be a safer investment. However we felt that we would be bored living in places that were essentially american suburbia. Our experiences living and travelling in Mexico gave us the knowledge that the country was not dangerous as it is protrayed in the Canadian and American media. We wanted to be able to walk to the local market and buy fruits and vegetable that we had never tried before and test new recipies for traditional Mexican dishes that are disappearing even among the locals as the country is more and more influenced by it's northern neighbours. Our condo is unique in that it offers to us both the traditional and the modern. Within the grounds we have all the amenties of home such as drinkable tap water, and amazing swimming pool, cool ocean breezes and a secure home that is hidden away from the sometimes hectic street life of the town. We can also step out the door and be into a dynamic and culturally interesting place that is a crossroads for people from all over the world. For us our Puerto Vallarta home offers the best of both worlds.

Maid service is provided twice a week. There is also the option of having a cook come in to make meals. This we recommend for larger groups who wish to eat together in the comfort of their own home. The cook always leaves lots of leftovers for a meal the next day. There is a small bar/restaurant that operates at the pool and is available for drinks and snack for guests that don't wish to leave the pool area. For guests who own or rent a car we can usually arrange for a parking space but this is not guaranteed.

It was perfection! Beautiful condo and grounds it had everything we could have wanted or needed!

The condo was beautifully decorated and yet so comfortable. Great location near everything, stores, restaurants, boat rental and boardwalk. We hung out on the patio for the most part if we were in the condo, we used the grill and cooked many meals. Only needed to turn on air at night. All of the staff at the condo were very nice and helpful, food and drinks at tiki car was also good. We felt like we were in the lap of luxury, we could see the ocean and sunset from the patio . People on the boardwalk stopped to take pictures of the grounds and the pool, you know it's impressive when they look away from the ocean to look at the grounds and pool lol. Each bedroom was so comfortable and roomy, each of us talked every morning about how good we slept. Honestly we didn't want to leave there and I hope to go back to Puerto Vallarta one day and I wouldn't dream of staying anywhere else. Thank you so much!

Great location in PV

Two couples stayed eight nights in this property. It is beautifully decorated. The weather was perfect, but having the heated pool was a plus as the sun did not hit the pool until the afternoon. The condo is very centrally located, so many restaurants and entertainment nearby. Markets and groceries within easy walking distance. The owner is very accommodating as is the property manager.

Fabulous Location!

From the first contact with Ted, the process was seamless. The Property Manager met us as scheduled, spent 30 minutes showing us around the unit and complex and supplied us with his contact information for any problems, there were none. The cleaning Staff visited every 3rd Day and was thorough and friendly. The Unit, Pool and Grounds are fabulous, and being only 1 Floor up provides easy access to the Pool and Side Entrance, the Taxi can drive up to within 15 meters of the Elevator. One person in our group was mobility challenged and this property accommodated with good Sidewalks, Access, Pool Ramps and Flat Grounds. All 3 Bedrooms have very comfortable Beds, Bedding and Pillows. The Unit itself is massive, 3 Couples can stay and all have their Space, opening the Triple Sliding Doors opens the area up to the sound of the Ocean, and the Deck provides a view of the River, Malecon Bridge, and Ocean. We enjoyed the local Market and cooked Gourmet Dinners on several occasions, with the premier Meal being Christmas Turkey, the Kitchen is very well equipped for all Cooking tasks and has been obviously equipped by an entertainer. The Old Town area is entertaining, from exquisite Dining, Eating at Street Vendors or small Restaurants, to Walking or taking the Bus to the Market makes this a magical location. Thanks Ted, we will be back!

Wonderful week with friends

We have just returned from a week's vacation with 2 other couples in Ted's condo. I don't even know where to begin to describe this place. It is everything that shows in the pictures and even better in person. The whole place is huge and of top quality. The furniture and art work are of outstanding quality, the kitchen is well equipped with everything a cook could wish for. We found plenty of bath and beach towels and even floating devices for the pool (which we didn't use because we couldn't find a pump to blow them up).

A maid came twice during our stay and thoroughly cleaned the whole apartment. The building is very secure with guards at the entrances. One of the best features is the location of the building across from the beach and steps away from many great places to eat and drink. We ventured out every afternoon for Happy Hour at the Sea Monkey, great place to dig the feet in the sand and get a massage with a drink in hand.

The saltwater pool is huge, nicely heated and most of the time almost empty. Lots of very comfortable beds surround the pool area and can also be found in the shaded grassy area. Everything is superbly maintained and clean.

My inquiries with Ted were always answered within hours. When the website had issues with my credit card payment Ted was in contact with technical support and found a quick solution to ensure we could pay our dues.

All of us were really impressed with everything and would love to come back!

The condo was lovely. The place had everything that you might possibly need.

The grounds are very pretty and well manicured. Security is always around which helps you to feel safe. You are within walking distance to fantastic restaurants and shopping. We had a delightful time and for sure we will return.

Located in the old town the condo is ideally located for walking tours of the surrounding area which will give one sense of the original architecture of this town before it was a tourist destination and a glimpse into everyday life of the iocal inhabitants. The surrounding neighbourhood is a genuine mexican town and not an artificial tourist resort. It contains an amazing array of shope and restaurants that cater to all tastes and budgets.

Please note that the condo only has three beds. There are air mattresses and sleeping bags suitable for children. For this reason we do not rent to parties of more than six adults. Eight persons are allow to stay in the condo but at least two of them must be minor children.
