Hello we love to Host for Homeaway.
We are nestled just a few miles from Bass Lake and about 20 miles from the South Gate Hwy 41 Entrance. The Valley is 35 miles (winding roads). Here, you will find a quaint private apartment that accommodates up to four people (two per bed). Currently there is one queen bed and one sofa bed (queen). The apartment has a full mini kitchen furnished with dinnerware, coffee maker, microwave and necessities to enjoy an indoor meal.
Outdoors you will find the property peaceful and inviting with gorgeous views of Goat Mountain. The back yard is spacious and opens up to a path that leads to our seasonal Fine Gold Creek.
If, after visiting Yosemite or Bass Lake you still need something to do, you can check out North Fork and Bass Lake’s local attractions. Just down the road from Fine Gold Retreat is beautiful Manzanita Lake. It is a perfect little lake with the most peaceful setting for fishing, swimming or just hanging out to feed the ducks. It even has built-in grills so you can BBQ a few hamburgers. Manzanita Lake is one of my favorite places. Trust me; you will not regret taking the time to visit this special place.
North Fork is also home to the Mono Indian Museum and an art gallery that hosts local mountain artists. North Fork has the best pizza and Mexican food restaurant you could ask for.
Fourth of July weekend is a busy time for North Fork and Bass Lake. The weekend of July 4th, North Fork hosts our annual Loggers Jamboree where professionals and amateurs alike can show off their logging and timber skills. The jamboree is preceded by our local (OK, maybe a little corny) 4th of July parade.
Finally, we mustn’t forget about one of the best Independence Day fireworks displays at Bass Lake. People from all over the world come to celebrate the freedom of our wonderful country.
We started out as a young married couple moving to North Fork over thirty years ago. We love our area and are excited about sharing our mountain with you. We are a family of music, so don't be surprised if you hear a strumming guitar, or other acoustic instruments from time to time. We would love for you to join in if you are so inclined.
Bret and Janel Nielsen purchased this studio in 2005
We travel a lot and so we stay in hotels a lot. This was such a nice change and the property and home owners were so hospitable. Because of its separate entry off to the side you really feel like you're there alone but still have the comforts of home. When we entered our room freshly baked cookies were waiting for us which were very good! This studio is perfectly nestled off a main road that leads to anywhere you want to go. You're a short drive to local places you want to hit up and a short road trip to Yosemite National park. We would definitely want to come back to this same spot for another visit! Great spot, great people!
This is a charming, quiet, clean place, off the beaten path. But there were problems: We were given bad directions to the unit. In addition there was no microwave oven as promised. We received no notice about the absence of the microwave. Perhaps they were hoping that we would not notice, which is a little like hoping we wouldn't notice that the front door was missing. The owner ultimately apologized for the microwave (I guess the absence is just our tough luck), but not for the directions, which are inexcusable. Also, after receiving bad directions and as a result, driving all over the entire area, we hope that nobody thinks this place is a base for exploring Yosemite, which is a long, long way away, if not in miles, then in hours spent in the car. Finally, the TV. If you like sports of any sort, or network TV, or even local TV, then you will not find it at this place. Disappointing is the way that I would characterize our experience.
We booked the guest house, but it was accidentally double booked, so we ended up staying in a bedroom of the main house where our hosts live. We arrived late at night and they were very accommodating of our late arrival - made phone contact with us ahead of time, then left the lights on for us and made it easy to find our room. Our hosts were amazingly gracious - Jan made us banana bread, coffee, and other treats in the mornings. No one complained when we stayed out late the second night for a wedding. Two very sweet, silly dogs live at the house. By chance, their grandkids came to visit, so it was a little noisy in the morning but we didn't mind. FYI the property is on an unpaved road (but our little compact rental car had no trouble). Very close to bass lake and not far from the south entrance of Yosemite. Some friends ended up staying in the guest house that we originally tried to book, so we saw the inside. It was a nice space for a couple or a small family looking to vacation near Bass Lake/Yosemite and it stayed cool on some very hot days. Thanks again to Jan and Bret for the great stay!
The property is clean, quiet and very comfortable. The bed was extremely comfortable and owners are very helpful and kind. I would go back again. Thank you.
We rented the house for a couple days and had the most amazing trip to Yosemite. The accommodation is good for a family of four. There is a bedroom and a pull-out sofa in the living room. The entry of the house is totally independent. The kitchen is well-equipped. The setting is nice and quiet. Bass Lake is close to the house. We drove to Yosemite and spend the whole day there. It was a fun vacation for the family.
The Owners were truly amazing and provided full privacy. Thank you very much for the great cookies!
The location of the property is really good. We really liked the room and the amenities provided especially the cookies. :)
Thank you for making our trip such a wonderful experience. We will be back.
Be sure to check out Bass Lake andManzanita Lake

Dogs live on the premiese but are not able to go near the apartment. The far side of the main house is the residential area for the owners and we ask that you veer away from that area for our privacy. Nielsen Road is a public access to a small neighborhood. The neighbors are very generous and friendly. To keep it that way, we ask that visitors respect the 15 mph rule while driving on the road.
