Overview

About the property

House, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4 with convertible couch)

As evidenced by the over 50 unanimous (5 star) reviews, this is not your typical cottage.

Located on 200 feet of lakefront with breathtaking views of both the sunrise and sunset from your private deck, this lovely one bedroom house is perfect for a romantic getaway for two, or for a small family seeking a lakeside vacation.

45 minutes from Rochester, Buffalo and Niagara Falls and right off the New York State Parkway, the location couldn't be more convenient. With cable TV, WiFi, public water, air conditioning and ample heat plus countless amenities, you'll be on vacation the moment you arrive.

Just as lovely in the spring and fall as it is in the summer, this location is the perfect spot for parents visiting students in Brockport, Rochester, Niagara or Buffalo. Lake Ontario turns a vibrant dark blue in the spring and fall and a walk among the changing foliage in Lakeside Park is simply spectacular. On chillier nights, our fire pit provides a cozy place for you to comfortably linger well past sunset. A large stack of fire wood and plenty of kindling are available for your use. Long summer evenings will amaze you with skies loaded with stars and sparkling fireflies, the likes of which can only be seen in the country.

The unit is all on one floor, and includes a queen-size bed, a brand new couch that converts into a second full sized bed, a full kitchen and living room, as well as a full bathroom with shower. The entire house has been completely remodeled, and is absolutely gorgeous inside.

The property borders on Lakeside Park, where you can enjoy miles of hiking along the breathtaking bluffs on the southern shore of Lake Ontario. A new 18 hole disc golf course is also available for your enjoyment.

In the area you will find several golf courses, fresh produce, a drive-in movie theater and wonderful restaurants. The house is nestled in a lakeside hamlet less than 15 minutes from the Erie Canal. Kayaking and canoeing opportunities along local creeks and waterways abound. You will find each nearby town loaded with unique shops, local landmarks and fascinating history. When you return back to the lake, you'll find the perfect location to relax and read that book you have been looking forward to. Most importantly, you'll have a chance to reconnect with nature and each other.

Lake Ontario is at record levels this year, (the highest in 125 years!) but this location is beautifully protected by the bluff. The lakeside deck was moved to the top of the bluff, and beautiful landscaping was added. You'll have the most gorgeous view of the sunrise and sunset from this location, surrounded by endless blue water. Come enjoy your own private paradise!

New in 2016: An adult-sized 'sandbox'! For those of you looking to wiggle your toes in the sand, we've built an 8 X 16 foot sandbox, complete with reclining lounge chairs, off the first landing of the deck. Mother Nature gave us a rocky beach, but we developed a work-around for our sand loving friends.

About Maureen Farnand

My husband and I grew up in the Rochester area. We both came from large families and we love to travel and entertain. We enjoy this unique location on the lake so much, when the opportunity arose, we bought the house next door! We're happy to provide you with tips on good restaurants and fun things to do in the area, as well as directions on how to get wherever you want to go. We love this place and we want to make sure you do too!

Maureen Farnand purchased this house in 2010

Why Maureen Farnand chose New York

This location is ideal in so many ways: It is 45 minutes from our primary home. It is quiet and private. It has gorgeous views of the lake. Lakeside Park is a hidden treasure and it is in our back yard. We can leave on a Friday after work and enjoy dinner on the deck an hour later. Few people know about this location. The property tends to stay in families for generations and has remained a hidden treasure we were lucky enough to learn about through my uncle who introduced our family to this beautiful spot in 1959.

What makes this house unique

There are few places I know of, where you can walk outside in your pajamas, cup of coffee and newspaper in hand and as you head to the deck you look out on the vastness of the lake and see six beautiful swans gliding by. You have to wonder... how could I beat this?

Beautiful area with great hosts.

  • 5 of 5

The wife and I just returned home from this beautiful cottage right on Lake Ontario. The owners have the place set up with everything you need and there is a sitting area both on the deck of the cottage and right on the bluff overlooking the lake. We were lazy all week reading books on the hammock and sitting around the fire at night. The lake is up 2 ft this year (2017) so the beach they had has mostly eroded away, but the owners still have access to the water from their residence side and welcomed us to go down that way. We spent many afternoons fishing off the rocks (several nice perch) and having our lab swim after his foam duck trainer.

If you are looking for a nice quiet place to relax for a week this is it. We will be back in the future!

Breathtaking

  • 5 of 5

Although our stay was short, the memories will last a lifetime! The view of the lake is beyond breathtaking, especially at sunrise and sunset. The cottage was beautiful and the owners were so kind and accommodating, it felt as if we had known them our entire life. I definitely look forward to a return visit and hopefully for a longer stay. I have already made a recommendation to many of my friends and family members.

Exceeded expectations!

  • 5 of 5

Upon arrival we were warmly greeted and shown around by Maureen the owner who lives next door. The cottage is as pictured (if not better!), just as cute as can be, very clean and nicely stocked with dishes, glassware, spices, (even tea and coffee) towels, and extra pillows. Maureen even had a pretty vase of flowers because she knew we were celebrating my husband's birthday. The view of Lake Ontario through the windows of the cottage or the front deck is excellent, but be sure you take in the view from the lovely deck just across the road. There you are literally on the edge of the lake! Simply spectacular, very relaxing and a wonderful spot to watch the sun set! There is lots to do in the area...Niagara Falls and Buffalo are about an hour or so drive to the west and Rochester about an hour's drive to the east. Even the Finger Lakes region would be doable as a day trip. A drive to Letchworth State Park was well worth it to see the beautiful waterfalls. Bring your passports and take a drive along the very scenic Niagara Parkway to Niagara-on-the-Lake in Ontario, known as the "prettiest town in Canada". Be sure to stop at some of the many lovely wineries on the way. We especially enjoyed the tasting at Riverview Cellars winery. Another place worth a stop is Walker's Country Market (also right on the Parkway) where we got some delicious strawberries, cheese and butter tarts, which went great with the wine while relaxing on the deck that evening! Even if you don't go into Canada, there is a Niagara Wine Trail with many wineries close by. My husband and I enjoyed each day that we were there. This is the perfect place for a couple and the only reason anyone would be disappointed would be because they should have stayed longer!

Owner's Response: What a wonderful review, and thanks so much for your kind words! We are so pleased with how nice the lake side deck turned out, and so glad you share in our love of the new location! We're also glad you took advantage of the Niagara wine trail. It is getting bigger and bigger every year, with more and more wineries opening up between the lake house and Canada each time we go. It's really lovely in the fall, too! The changing foliage is just beautiful, and the lake gets a deep blue that is so pretty in contrast. We just love that drive. We hope to see you back soon!

The property was a quaint little cabin just right for the weekend or longer get away.

  • 5 of 5

Nestled in the tall trees high about Lake Ontario, the property was perfect for the weekend getaway. All the amenities of home on a quiet gravel roadway with almost no vehicle traffic, and only a mile or so from the equally quaint Creekside Grocery. The owners are right next door and ready to make your stay a complete pleasure. When we have the opportunity to return to the area, this will be our accommodation of choice.

Owner's Response: James, It was wonderful having you as our guest! Knowing you once owned property nearby, it was great to hear how much you loved staying at our lake side house. It meant a lot knowing our location worked out so well for your visit, and allowed you the freedom to reconnect with old friends and family. So many of our tenants have become regulars, and we'd love to add you to that list. Many folks come back time and again to visit old friends and to make new ones. We hope to see you back soon! Maureen and Darcy

Wonderful and Cozy

  • 5 of 5

We brought our dog out for his first family trip along with our two children. Beautiful views all around and swings for our little ones to play on, which they enjoyed the most. The place was very cozy and accommodating. We enjoyed the state park/disc golf course and our dog Plato got to burn off some of his energy out there. We plan on returning and had a peaceful, restful Memorial Day Weekend.
