About owners/property manager

After building tree forts in the woods behind his house as a young boy, my husband Rick decided one day he would build his own cabin. Mountain Laurel is the result of this dream. Hand built from the trees on the property, the cabin is situated privately on 50 acres of pine woods.

owners/property manager purchased this cabin in 2010

Why owners/property manager chose Adirondack Mountains

We loved this property as soon as we saw it. The sweet smell of pine greets you and the soft moss on the ground makes hiking on the property ideal.

What makes this cabin unique

Situated privately on fifty acres of pine woods, with your own spot of peaceful quiet, the cabin is unique. From the porch you can sip tea or coffee and listen to the birds greet the morning. From the balcony, you can see for ten miles. If it's a quiet get-away you're looking for, you've found it!

Absolutely beautiful❤

  • 5 of 5

My husband & I live about an hour away & had just been looking for a quick weekend get away. All camp sites in our area had been full & the cottage that we had rented in the past had also been booked. We are so happy that they had all been booked & sold out because this place is truly a GEM! From start to finish everything about Mountain Laurel is primitively perfect❤ peaceful , relaxing & the rain water shower is truly 1 of the best showers you will ever take in your life. Our 3 night stay sadly came to an end today 6/12/17 & were already trying to plan our next trip. The minute you walk in any stress you may have had instantly disappears.

Thank you so much Maria & Rick for sharing your beautiful cabin with us. We are looking forward to our next trip.

We loved our weekend off the grid in this amazing cabin!!

  • 5 of 5

This cabin was everything we hoped it would be and then some. The cabin was clean, ingeniously built by Rick himself, and very well appointed. You can tell a lot of love went into building this sanctuary. The outhouse was surprisingly a highlight of the trip. It's really clean and nice and so close to the cabin. You can leave the door open and look out at the woods while you're in there. It's surprisingly pleasant! There are also solar powered lights and motion detectors outside so finding your way to it in the dark is not a problem. The rainwater collection system that allows for hot showers and running water below the cabin and in the outhouse is ingenious. It allowed us to take hot showers and wash dishes and yet be completely back to nature at the same time. We're looking forward to coming back in the winter to experience it all in the snow.

We stayed at the cabin for 3 nights, arriving late at night, and had no trouble finding it thanks to Maria's directions. There is cell service there and Rick and Maria were easy to reach and communicate with and explained everything we needed to know about the cabin. We were lucky enough to meet them and get a full tour of the property.

On the first day we stayed put for most of the day except for a trip into Croghan for some ice cream and supplies. We'd brought a cooler of food and cooked in the cabin. We did bring our own dishes and silverware but there were plenty of pots and pans and measuring cups and spoons. We loved making a fire in the wood stove and out in the fire pit. Our daughter loved digging in all the sand that's on the property. It's a geological wonder so if you have kids, bring them sand toys.

The second day we took a 60 minute scenic drive mostly on a dirt road to Old Forge thanks to the directions that Rick and Maria had left in the booklet of activities. Google would have taken us on a circuitous route that would have taken closer to 90 minutes so we were grateful for the hand-drawn map. Canoeing or kayaking on the Moose River looks like it would be amazing and we look forward to going back and trying that another time. We also want to go back to go to the gorge and the reservoir and falls. Somehow 3 nights just wasn't quite long enough. We'll be back!

Quiet and Peaceful!

  • 5 of 5

This cabin is the definition of "getting away from it all." With 4 adults, a toddler, and 3 dogs, we loved every minute of our time together. It is our 2nd stay at the Kings Pines, our first at thier smaller cabin on the other side of thier 50 acres. We will be back! Thank You Rick and Maria!

Handsome Cabin in Beautiful Adirondacks

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I were looking for a quiet getaway to the country and this cabin fit the bill. It is an amazing cabin, very well built and about as well appointed as you can get for a rustic experience. We were able to cook meals over the fire and using the grill. The rain water shower has a water heater as well, so you can stay refreshed and comfortable. I would recommend bringing some cast iron cookware if you want to cook your own meals.

If you're looking for a small family rustic getaway, or a getaway for 3 adults (4 if couples) then I can highly recommend this cabin. The area around the cabin is quiet, with enough nearby points of interest if you want to see some sites, do some fishing, or go hiking. I recommend Stillwater Resevoir. We spent a day on kayaks in the reservoir and it was wonderful. Peaceful, quiet, good fishing, and plenty of area to explore.

There are many lakes a short distance drive from us for canoeing, kayaking, fishing, swimming. In the winter Snow Ridge Ski Resort is known for the first snow of the season in NY. It's 25 minutes away from us. For snowmobilers, we are in a wonderful secluded location. You can ride through the mountains to Stillwater, Old Forge and Tug Hill.
