About owners/property manager
After building tree forts in the woods behind his house as a young boy, my husband Rick decided one day he would build his own cabin. Mountain Laurel is the result of this dream. Hand built from the trees on the property, the cabin is situated privately on 50 acres of pine woods.
owners/property manager purchased this Cabin in 2010
Why owners/property manager chose Lowville
We loved this property as soon as we saw it. The sweet smell of pine greets you and the soft moss on the ground makes hiking on the property ideal.
What makes this Cabin unique

Most Memorable Family Vacation!
We just returned from our stay at this adorable "Little House" cabin retreat & had one of the most memorable family vacations together! My husband, fifteen-year-old son & I felt at home from the start in this cozy & relaxing authentic log cabin home. Our days were spent hiking in the backwoods, reading, listening to music and playings lots of games and cards while snow fell outside the window & birds and squirrels fed at the large bird feeder outside the kitchen window. It felt like we were living in a scene from a puzzle picture. This is a retreat to try something different, a back to basics living that everyone in our over-stimulated technical era could benefit from for at least a few days. Staying at this cabin also gave us a strong sense of self sufficiency by having to work at our own warmth by tending to the wood stove, preparing meals w/out convenience of a microwave or oven by using the top of the wood stove for slow warming of food (that works perfectly!) or the propane cooktop provided for quicker cooking & learning how to conserve the use of water during washing dishes and taking our showers. The solar electricity system for lighting and off-grid showering room is innovative and impressive and we even adjusted quickly to using the outhouse bathroom. We learned an invaluable lesson as a family, especially after the hustle and bustle of the holidays and that is life can slow down when you give deadlines, obligations, and technology a break and live in the present moment. Our time did slow down while we were at this cabin, unlike any other vacation we have been on. It was a genuine vacation to relax, spend time as a family and make lasting memories! **In response to "Magnus" who stayed a few days before us, the first thing you do when staying at a rental is read the guidebook provided by owners & in it they advise that woodshack has one side w/ the drier wood. We listened & never had an issue w/ wet wood. Cabin suffocating is not the design of cabin that is the fault of renter who doesn't know how to use wood stove properly. This cabin is authentic, sturdy, comfortable, beautiful and very reasonably priced. I have the personal pictures to prove it and all my family and friends wished they could experience it themselves. Don't let that negative review persuade your decision to stay here. I can promise you that staying at this cabin home is an experience worth having w/ owners who put their heart into this cabin!
Thank you so much Christina for your wonderful review! We loved hearing about your time spent at the cabin with your family. We love sharing our cabin with families who genuinely appreciate the cabin and the land surrounding it, but most of all creating memories that last forever. As you stated, we have put our hearts into creating it and therefore it means so much to us when our guests enjoy it as much as we do.

Absolutely Wonderful Experience
It was absolutely beautiful, we were lucky enough to have it snow, so it just added to the beauty of it. Rick and Maria are very wonderful people, very accommodating. We were given a tour of the property and just amazed at the workmanship that was put into each on of the cabins. Will definitely be going back, was hard to leave.
Thank you so much Tammy. It was nice having the four of you here. We're very happy you enjoyed your stay so much. Maria & Rick

We loved this place ! We called it our pioneer vacation mainly because it was cold when we went and we really enjoyed warming up to wood stove at night . We ventured all around the area to see the leaves and even made our way to old forge to visit some of favorite spots . This was such a peaceful place to get away to. Thank you for sharing it with us !
You're very welcome. We love that you called it your pioneer vacation! The wood stove is so cozy isn't it? We love sitting around it with a cup of tea and a good book.

Cozy Adirondack Cabin
This was a lovely cabin with a picturesque interior and inventive ways to access most modern conveniences, including solar powered lights and a phone charger, sinks and showers using water from an underground rainwater reservoir, and propane gas for a cooking stove and to heat the water for the shower. Plus, our dogs loved the space outside to run around and play. Overall, our weekend was a great experience!
Thank you Justin! We are so happy you enjoyed your stay.

Great weekend at a beautiful cabin!!
Mountain Laurel is beautiful inside and out. Rick and Maria are truly amazing people. We will definitely be back for another visit.
There are many lakes a short distance drive from us for canoeing, kayaking, fishing, swimming. In the winter Snow Ridge Ski Resort is known for the first snow of the season in NY. It's 25 minutes away from us. For snowmobilers, we are in a wonderful secluded location. You can ride through the mountains to Stillwater, Old Forge and Tug Hill.
Please reserve cabin 48 hours in advance of arrival date. You must be 21 years of age to rent the cabin. If you would like to bring your dog, please let us know so we can tell you our pet policy. Thank you.
