About this property
Newly renovated house minutes from Granite Peak, Nine Mile, Wausau & Hospitals
Enjoy the peace and natural beauty at Highland Acres, homesteaded in 1858. Current home was built in 1970, & has been completely renovated. Virtually everything is new - furniture, appliances, bedding, dishes, cookware, towels, etc. A few special family items remain. Two car garage. Includes a rack and storage area for skis and other sports equipment. There is a bonus room in the basement where kids young and old can play, a baby can be rocked to sleep, or you can just get away. Outside covered patio with wooden rocking chairs, picnic table, and grill (summer.) Large outdoor lawn to enjoy games or just spontaneous play. Enjoy great vistas of the nearby hills and Granite Peak as well as of crops and woods. Stocked full kitchen with all new appliances. Dining room with heirloom furniture. Large family room with new Sony smart TV. Laundry room with new washer & dryer. Three themed bedrooms which recall farm life, baseball, & nature. One BR has a desk and desk chair. A blow up bed is available for use as well. The large sectional could be used for sleeping too. There are huge closets in the bedrooms and elsewhere. You can unpack your clothes into them and stash the suitcases there too. Bathrooms are fully stocked with new towels, decor, and toiletries. Even the tub, shower, toilets, faucets, and sinks are new. You'll notice a few cows around reflecting the long history of dairy farming on site. Horses played major roles on the farm and for the family in addition to other animals. You'll delight in noticing the homage played to them here at Highland Acres.
The homestead is perfectly placed in the Wausau area. A mile off of the highway (Highway 29), there is quick and easy access to everything Wausau has to offer. Generally, one can get anywhere in the area in 5-25 minutes. By the same token, you can simply head out the door and walk or take your bike on the roads or nearby trails. No need to worry about where to safely store your kayaks, boats, trailers, and other equipment. There is adequate, secure parking available in the U-shaped driveway. If peace and quiet in the countryside are what you desire, you can simply stay put. Although Highland Acres is no longer an active dairy farm, crops are grown and you can enjoy the crops and miracle of nature.
Regardless of what type of activities you desire, the Wausau area has you covered. There is downhill skiing at Granite Peak in addition to hiking, snowshoeing, mountain biking, etc. Nine Mile is great for hiking, biking, snowshoeing, and cross country skiing. The whitewater kayak course downtown hosts international competitions but is also a place for everyone down to beginners to participate in whitewater rafting. There are numerous kayak/canoe and boat launches throughout the nearby region including just 10 minutes away. A network of hiking, biking, and snowmobile trails are available including the Iceage Trail. Numerous lakes, rivers, and beaches welcome you at city, county, and state parks. Whether you like to swim, boat, or just sit by the water, there are places for you.
The historic Grand Theater downtown is a gem featuring everything from concerts to Broadway productions to local troupes. Wausau is also home to numerous museums and art galleries. Leigh Yawkey museum is the largest museum of bird art in the world and has numerous fun events and features artists in residence regularly. The Center for Visual Arts has a rotating gallery as do several others in the area. The Woodson History Museum has permanent and revolving collections to view in addition to the Yawkey House. They host a variety of tours, lectures and other events throughout the year.
Like big events? We have you covered with that too. One notable is the Balloon Rally and Ribfest. The site of the event is less than two miles away from Highland Acres. It is not uncommon in the early mornings to have the balloons float above Highland Acres during the rally. You can almost touch them. There is Chalk Fest and Festival of the Arts among others. Concerts on the Square are every Wednesday night in summer. Better yet, they are free. Restaurants spill into the sidewalks downtown and food trucks line the streets.
Hungry? Thirsty? Farmers' Markets are abundant. Dining choices are throughout the area offering a wide variety of choices of food and beverages. There are multiple breweries in the area. Timekeepers Distillery occupies a historic train station. You can enjoy a revolving line of cocktails and mocktails both inside and out.
Pumpkin patches, hayrides, pizza on the farm at Stony Acres, and more. There is a lot to do during every season. It's close, convenient, and fun.
Note: Due to readdressing, you may need to use the street number of 11010 Highland Drive if your search engine doesn't lead you to the correct place with the other street number. Google maps seem to work well generally.
