Guestbook comments from the owner

Reflecting on our time in Jamestown, I realize that this remarkable house has come to represent a kind of distillation of late summer as it ought to be. I still remember the adventure of first seeing the great house behind the high hedge, its casual pile of cornices, windows and chimneys (like the architect was daydreaming a little), and then walking the circular staircase to discover which of all these bedrooms is ours!

In my memory, the house is always full of people, a crowd always in the kitchen eating or making plans for eating or cleaning up (or not) after eating, and groups of 3 and 4 on the veranda, and someone playing the piano and singing, and another gang heading off to the beach. New acquaintances, then friends. The house is the necessary shelter and catalyst for this, a house that invites you into its refuge for comfortable, even intimate living.

The necessities are all there for summer on this scale--the appliances and cutlery and bathrooms and bedrooms and sitting rooms, the wide lawn and the dramatic downslope to the path to the ocean, the places to sit for eating and talking and drinking and thinking. And the balance of the house for grand and very personal moments is interesting: wide corridors and nooks and corners, a grand staircase but also a narrow back staircase, a dramatic panorama of the island and harbor from the terrace, but also an outdoor shower; casually comfortable chairs and couches and sofas and tables for solitary reading or whole-gang meals and long evenings of talking. But the essence of the house as I experience it is its tone, out of this rich detail, which is a slow joyful symphonic song of well-being in a happy key.

It is a house that lets you experience small “fixations of happiness” that become our summer holidays in Jamestown. See you next year, if not before.

This house is incredible!!

  • 5 of 5

This house is incredible. Large, gracious and beautifully maintained. My group has stayed here for the last three years and we are returning next year. Every bedroom is beautiful. The house is very clean and thoughtfully appointed with towels, soap etc. The kitchen has everything needed including two dishwashers. The house is much larger in person than it appears in photographs. We spend most of our time on the wrap around porch with it's wonderful view of the Newport harbor. I feel very fortunate to have found this house for our vacations!!

Very nice and spacious home.

  • 5 of 5

The house was very spacious. It was about a 10-15 min walk to a small private beach with gentle waves, or a 5 min drive to a larger public beach. The house is close to the center of town, about 15-20 min walk and a short drive to a small supermarket. No AC, but fans in the room. Well equipped kitchen, large dining room. Large sloping lawn with a wrap around porch. Everything was clean and the hostess was easy to reach with questions.

Beautiful Beach Home

  • 5 of 5

We staying at this amazing home and celebrated my Mom's 70th birthday. The home is well stocked and extremely spacious. The front porch is beautiful overlooking Narragansett bay, at night we were able to see a fireworks display in newport while sitting on the porch. The beds are extremely comfortable. The private beach is nice and our kids loved the diving board off the pier. It was our first time in Jamestown and we absolutely loved it. Great little town with good restaurants within walking distance from the house. The owners of the home are very responsive and great to deal with. Highly recommend!

great stay in Jamestown

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed in this house twice and enjoyed ourselves both times. The house is beautiful and quite grand - much bigger in person than it appears in the photos. We spent most of our time on the beautiful wrap around porch overlooking the bay and Newport. The location is walking distance from the downtown area and a few minutes drive from the waterfront parks.

We have already made plans to return next year.
