I am also a poet, and love to write.

Susan Boyd purchased this cottage in 2006

Why Susan Boyd chose Charlevoix

My family has been coming to Charlevoix the Beautiful since the early 1900's. Purchasing Abide was a dream come true. I am happy that I can share my dream with you.

What makes this cottage unique

I love the peace of this little village, nesteled between Lake Charlevoix and Lake Michigan. I love to ride my bike to the lake and go swimming early in the morning when no one else is around. Most evenings, my family and I watch the sunset together, while swimming, flying kites, playing football, building sand castles, or just simply "Abiding".

fantastic fairy tale cottage

  • 5 of 5

We LOVED our stay at Abide. This is a perfect location, winter or summer. We felt like we were staying at Snow White's cottage! Lake Michigan is right across the street, it's a short walk to downtown, the floors are heated (!!!!) and the fireplace is amazing. I can't believe that such an experience was available to us, this home is featured in the book 'Mushroom Houses of Charlevoix!'

The photos don't exactly do the home justice. If you like older homes, brimming with character and charm, do not pass up the opportunity to stay at this amazing historical gem.

Should you visit Charlevoix, do not miss the opportunity to eat breakfast/lunch at SOW (smoke on the water) It's a very short walk from the home and absolutely fantastic!

Unique, comfortable historical home.

  • 5 of 5

We were in Charlevoix to attend a wedding at Castle Farms. Decided to make a long weekend. Absolutely loved our stay at Abide. Susan was quick with replies to questions; very accommodating. Abide is a beautiful home. It was comfortable and clean. Great location any time of year. Highly recommend staying here. Be sure to watch the Earl Young DVD by the Charlevoix Historical Society.

This is an amazing "national treasure" in which to spend some very special time!

For anyone who is interested in staying in a house (1938) that was meticulously designed and constructed by an American architect (Earl Young), and then lovingly restored and cared-for by its current owners, "Abide" can't be beat! From the minute we turned the key and first peeked in, we felt a thrill as we took in all the originality and quaintness of this "Mushroom House of Charlevoix the Beautiful". The unique angles, the dramatic use of stone, especially for the one-of-a-kind fireplace, and the use of light and wood, this is a truly exceptional vacation get-away. We were there during an extremely cold period and the fireplace, along with the unique radiant heat in the flooring, (along with a space heater), kept us cozy and warm. We loved the galley kitchen and all its red dishes, etc.; the bedding was luxurious; and the location just across the street from Lake Michigan makes for an extraordinary view. We had a small heating issue, and the property manager (Heidi) was exceptionally prompt and responsive. Susan, the current owner, was a delight to work with. Be sure and watch the DVD about Earl Young that's provided -- it makes the house even more special to enjoy! And, by all means, take in a couple of meals at the Weathervane Restaurant (also designed and built by Earl Young) to round out a truly spectacular vacation.

Enjoy a Sunday service by the lake, cool off in the musical fountian by the harbor, or visit the fish pond in East Park. Walk downtown and shop for fresh fruits and vegtables at the Farmer's Market, and browse the arts and craft shows. Your children will love our local summer camp at Mt. McSauba.
