About Ilaria Tartaglia
I am a student of Polimoda International Institute Fashion Design & Marketing in Florence where I study fashion marketing and communication. My parents are two physicians and work in Careggi''s teaching hospital and they often host colleagues of other countries in Florence for conferences and meetings. My parents have bought me one this apartment for my university course. I usually live in the apartment during the period of the studies in Polimoda.
Ilaria Tartaglia purchased this Apartment in 2013
Why Ilaria Tartaglia chose Santo Spirito
First time I saw this property, I loved it because it was a very nice apartment in a splendid location in Florence. The apartment is bright, calm and close to everything. It is located in one of the most elegant area of city with many very nice restaurants, bars etc. Boboli's garden is one of the most famous Italian garden.
What makes this Apartment unique
It is in a crucial position among the most beautiful squares and streets of Florence: Piazza Santo Spirito, Ponte Vecchio, Palazzo Pitti, via Tornabuoni, via Maggio. Boboli's garden is very close (5 minute by foot) and it is one of the most famous Italian garden. It is wonderful.

Fantastic for a long-term stay
I had a wonderful time staying in this lovely apartment for 12 weeks! For starters, the Oltrarno is a great neighborhood, very charismatic and away from the most touristy parts of the city center. However, this apartment is in a great location—just a short walk from the Ponte Vecchio and no more than 20 minutes walking from any of the major attractions. The hosts were wonderful and very communicative, and brought over extra blankets and a portable heater as the weather became colder for winter. Having A/C in the unit is an uncommon plus in the city. Overall I couldn't imagine a better place to have stayed during my time in Florence!
My husband and I stayed for 2 months. The hosts were so helpful and friendly; best home rental experience I've ever had! Ilaria's dad met us when we first arrived and gave us a tour and left us a bottle of wine and her mom answered all of our questions and reminded us about things like the daylight savings time change. The apartment is quaint/cute and had everything we needed to experience Florence like locals; functional kitchen and appliances (where we cooked plenty), grocery store nearby, and a quieter location in Oltrarno away from the tourist hordes. Walking distance to Firenze SMN bus and train station, which we used extensively. For Americans: you have to get used to the small refrigerator and lack of clothes dryer and elevator--that's the authentic European/Italian experience, not a criticism of the apartment. Also, as the description notes, there are 4 flights of stairs--good exercise to burn off all the pasta :) The noise level can be comparable to city living; decently quiet/unnoticeable overall, but on Fri/wkends the walls are a kinda thin, so you'll hear a bit of whatever's going on outside or upstairs. Overall, a fantastic experience and highly recommended!
Wonderful apartment in perfect location!
I stayed in this lovely apartment for an extended period of time and I couldn’t ask for anything better. The place is located on a beautiful street in between Palazzo Pitti and Piazza Santo Spirito, so there were many bars and restaurants in close walking distance. You can easily reach any bridge to cross the river to view all of the main tourist attractions (although there are many things to see in this area). The apartment is beautifully decorated and clean, with all of the amenities needed. The hosts were lovely and made sure that my stay was comfortable. I would highly recommend this apartment!
Beautiful apartment, amazing location
I had the pleasure of staying here long term while studying in Florence and I can say that this apartment is exceptional. Its fully equipped with everything you'd need and more (a full size bath, dishwasher and oven are very rare in Florence!) and is decorated beautifully. lts situated right between the Pitti Palace and Santo Spirito square which is perfect for popping out to the many restaurants, bars and shops in the area. Its also just a few minutes walk to the major sights such as the Ponte Vecchio, Uffizi and Duomo. The apartment is very bright and it was lovely to wake up to a view of the Florentine rooftops and Duomo in the distance.
Benedetta and Riccardo were warm and welcoming and were great hosts throughout my stay. I would recommend this apartment to anyone looking to stay in Florence. I will miss the apartment and Florence and will definitely stay here again if I revisit.
It has been really a pleasure for us to have you as our guest, dear Joanne. You kept our house with love and respect as if it were yours . We really hope to see you again in Florence! A warm hug Benedetta, Riccardo e Ilaria
Beautiful and chic apartment
Beautiful apartment, very stylish and chic and in the heart of Florence. My son and I loved staying here and its location, we enjoyed eating in Santo Spirito and seeing Pitti Palace as soon as we came out of the apartment every morning.
Bernadette and Riccardo Tartgalia were very hospitable and kind and we're always available to help whenever we had any questions about Florence.
The neighbours were also very kind to my son and I and by the time we left Florence we felt we had made many friends.
I would highly recommend staying here for your trip to Florence.
thank you for your very kind review. We are happy that you had a nice stay. Benedetta and I are sorry that we had just an opportunity to talk with you about your books and our country. I hope that there will be other opportunities to meet you in Florence and to introduce you our daughter.
All the best
Home away from home
The apartment is south of the River Arno. On a map it seems that is away from the main attractions but in reality it isn't. The Ponte Vecchio is only a few minutes away, the train station about 20 minutes with rolling luggage but on the map looks further.
The apartment is lovely with everything the ordinary traveller looking for a self-catering apartment should need; washing machine, dish washer, well equipped kitchen, Nespresso machine, comfy bed, teapot (a first in Italy for us), etc…, everything we expect (hope) for from an apartment. If there is a negative (and it wasn't for us) it is that the apartment is on the 4th floor but this is mentioned on the site so shouldn't be a surprise to anyone booking. We were greeted by Benedetta (Ilaria's mum) who showed us around the apartment and left us with a bottle of wine.
There are several supermarkets in the vicinity, the closest is near the Ponte Vecchio, as well as several smaller places selling bread/meats/cheese.
We regularly visited the gelateria at Ponte Santa Trinita (other gelaterie are available) often eating it on the Ponte Santa Trinita, watching the world go by. You also get a good view of the Ponte Vecchio (next bridge down).
Mercato Centrale (near Basilica San Lorenzo) is also worth a visit, food market downstairs, restaurants upstairs. Ate there on a couple of occasions.
Met up once with Benedetta and Riccardo (her husband) for coffee and a chat which was lovely. I do wish my Italian was as good as their English.
We would recommend the FirenzeCard for a 3 day blitz of all the significant museums in Florence. I also allows you priority entry (worth the fee alone) and a 3 day bus ticket which we used to go to Fiesole.
Would we use this apartment again? Oh yes, without any reservations.
The apartment has been furnished and equipped to live in as comfortably as possible; it is Ilaria's home , our daughter. Those who choose this apartment loves old romantic houses, full of atmosphere and is not afraid to 4 flights of stairs! Thank you for nice review Jim and Janet; it was a pleasure to meet you and welcome you and thanks to the magnificent photographs of Florence you have sent us !! Benedetta e Riccardo
Near the apartment I recommend some very nice places (range 50-200 metros):
- La Casalinga (via dei Michelozzi) a very typical Tuscany restaurant with a very good rate cost/quality
- Gusta Pizza (via dei Michelozzi), you can eat one of the best pizza in Florence
- T'amerò, (Piazza Santo Spirito) a very nice restaurant good price and good food in an particular enviroment
- Federico is handy in Sdrucciolo de' Pitti for a light lunch
- O' Munaciello (via Maffia) a Neapolitan pizzeria and restaurant in Florence
