About the property

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms, 1.5 Baths, (Sleeps 2-4) permit Number STMO 2013/0004

Start your morning with kona coffee watching the sunrise over Maui from the beachside gazebo. View the ancient fish ponds and waves breaking on the reef.. In the winter months whales breach beyond these breakers. Take a morning dip or a lazy beach walk. Shower off the salt and sand in the outside shower. The day ahead is yours to fill. Lounge in the large yard or travel the roads to see the sights.

As evening comes, barbeque and picnic in the yard and then return to the gazebo for the late flight of birds returning to the shore.

This is the place to relax and breath deeply..

About Martha Yuknis

Len and I built the first phase of our cottage in 1976 when our first two children were 4 and 5, We have been returning to Molokai to spend a month or more each year since then. . In 2002 we renovated the house for the third time. Our youngest daughter was married in the gazebo in 2005. Our family now joins us each year to celebrate the holidays and enjoy the sun and the sea. It is a great break from Alaska winters. We all feel very much at home here..

Martha Yuknis purchased this cottage in 1976

Why Martha Yuknis chose Kaunakakai

Our family has always enjoyed the ocean and beach life. We love to fish, swim and relax by the shore. Hawaii gives us a break from the Alaskan winters and renews our energy so returning is always a joy.

What makes this cottage unique

A comfortable home with a view of the ocean and the island of Maui. A large yard in which to relax or play games. A gazebo for snacks or breakfast coffee. The beach is at your door.

It was the most relaxing and comfortable vacation ever!!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this amazing property for 4 nights.

The house was very clean, organized, full of equipment and super quiet. Most of all , the house is right in front of the ocean with a view of Maui and Lanai and also the yard is massive surrounded by the beautiful palm trees.

There was a fruits stand right by the house, and you could get some local fruits and also honey!

The owner was so helpful when we had to change the dates because our flight schedule was changed. She responded to my email immediately and helped me to change the dates with no problem.

Also the property's care taker, Karen was super nice and let us do late check out because our flight was evening and we had a 3 year old child. It was such a huge help to be able to stay there until our flight time especially with the small child.

We would definitely go back to Molokai and definitely stay at the same house!

Thank you!!!

Great relaxing get away.

Beautiful view from inside the cottage, as well as outside. Large private lush yard. The cottage has all the basic requirements needed. The outside shower was a bonus. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Mahalo.

Everything we expected and more

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely adored staying at this lovely and well-appointed cottage! What you see in the pictures is exactly what you get. But even the photos cannot capture the breathtaking seascape and the view of Maui and Lanai, nor the mountainscape in the back of the house. This is the perfect place to unwind. Having a precious cat and two cute visiting and very friendly dogs contributed to our happiness. Our stay was much too short, and we didn’t want to leave. We’ve already booked our next stay.

This is a house that people have lived in and still do, and it shows in its being really well taken care of and in all sorts of nice small touches. The outdoor shower is fabulous, and the beds are very comfortable. Yes, you are fairly close to the main road, but the traffic is negligible. There would be excellent swimming in the summer, but the trade winds were a bit strong and the rains a bit too frequent for swimming at this time of the year. Still, on a sunny calmer day, you can go to the small beach right off of the lawn or drive a mile down the road to another protected shore.

When coming to Molokai, be ready to cook your own food. There are few restaurants. The local supermarkets are also not great, but you can get the basics there. You can also obtain excellent meat from the Livestock Coop and great fruit and veggies from Kumu Farms, both near the airport. You can also get fresh fish. Just talk to Karen, the property manager, who is wonderful and very helpful..

Of the three properties we stayed in during our trip to Kaua‘i, Moloka’i, and Big Island, this was by far our favorite because of its beauty and serenity. There is no mass tourism in Molokai, and it makes the island and its people very special. Truly a treasure.

Such a great adventure!

  • 5 of 5

This home is well appointed and has everything you could possibly need. It almost has a 'need a penny, take a penny' feel... by that I mean, need sunscreen? You will find some at this house and then maybe when you leave you'll leave behind something else for the next people like extra shampoo.

We really enjoyed our time here. The outdoor shower is really cool, very helpful for rinsing clothes and feet. You can't beat the sunrises from the lounge chairs. I wish I was back there right now. Having the washer and dryer was really helpful and the huge lawn was great, watch for falling coconuts :) The plumeria flowers outside the bedroom windows were lovely and the fruit stand next door was very helpful. We really loved it here and hope to be back one day. Thanks for opening your home to us.

Very nice place to spend a week

  • 4 of 5

Very nice, cozy, private, clean, and well stocked cabin on the beach. IMHO Molokai'i is about a weeks stay at the most. It is a 20 + minute drive to the nearest resturant / town. The price was competitive for the area.
