We have stayed in Bear Hollow for years, with highs and lows. This one… was horrible. We cannot recommend this property. Despite being advertised as luxury, it was filthy upon arrival: hair on bedsheets, food in the microwave, mold in the tub, and trash outside. The hosts refused to send cleaners, offering only 50 of the cleaning fee back—so we bought cleaning products and did it ourselves. The AC didn’t cool upstairs bedrooms adequately, the master bedroom fan and light was broken, and hosts refused repairs. A hot, dark master bedroom doesn’t work, so we were down a bedroom. On day seven, during 100F heat, the AC failed completely. Rather than urgently dispatching a technician, the host came hours later to troubleshoot unsuccessfully, then suggested we “sleep in the basement with box fans.” We took our children to a hotel instead. The next day, with the house still dangerously hot and a technician scheduled for later, we had to decide: wait for a repair of unknown outcome, or relocate. Combined with the initial filth, unresolved cooling issues, and the hosts’ pattern of refusing help or offering only minimum responses, we lost confidence. We relocated our family, five bikes, and all our sports equipment to another rental mid-stay.The hosts declined to refund the unused portion of two weeks. While mechanical failures happen, the pattern of responses—repeatedly saying “no” when we asked for help—made us lose trust. This is not appropriate for a luxury property.
