Yes! This is it! The vacation rental house of your dreams AND within your budget!! Warm orange sunsets while floating in the cool blue pool of the Casa Barba Roja with simple sounds of the jungle on three sides of the house - this is not a dream but rather a dream come true. Think you hear something running across the roof? You probably did because we regularly get troops of Capuchin (White-face Monkeys) and Titi Monkeys both around and on top of our house.

Newly remodeled! We have added a third bedroom plus a third bathroom! This room is now visible in the photos and is by far the most beautiful bedroom of the house. The bedroom and bathroom together measure 550 square feet. This new bedroom is adorned with beautiful teak accents, a teak ceiling and gorgeous, thick teak doors. The room is warm, bright and well thought out.

Centrally located in the commercial heart of Manuel Antonio - yet remarkably immersed in the surrounding jungle, this house is truly ONE OF A KIND. You will not find a more conveniently located house, with this stunning view and the calm, green of the jungle all around. Leave the neighbors at home!

Awesome new Gym for locals and tourists alike, 10 restaurants, 2 international grocers, 2 banks, the public bus stop, 4 bars, 4 gift/art stores, and a car rental agency within walking distance - and this secluded, private, vast estate all to your self? Come Join us at Casa Barba Roja - in the heart of Manuel Antonio.

Along with the jungles and beaches and surf of Costa Rica, this house will be a memorable part of your stay here in Manuel Antonio! Our Concierge, Josue Castro, is always available to make this trip exactly what you want whether that is high-energy and full of adrenaline, or calm and relaxing spending a lot of time staring at the view!

Arriving to the Casa Barba Roja you will find some delicious local, Costa Rican fruit available for immediate consumption, or wait until the next day and have Roxana, the maid, cut it all up for you! We now also provide 250g of Coffee for all guests staying Dec - Aug so that you can arrive and immediately enjoy a cup of delicious, hot Costa Rican coffee!

Gorgeous, open, spacious house - perhaps the best deal in Manuel Antonio and NOW SLEEPS 12 PEOPLE! This remodeled home has all the amenities to make your trip delightful, stress-free, exotic, and comfortable, while hosting a very tropical, open, bright design that will surely erase all winter blues! Jungle, ocean, sunsets, monkeys, butterflies, mapaches, iguanas - and virtually no neighbors!

This house has plenty of indoor space and plenty of outdoor space as well, both covered and open-air decks. There is a roofed outdoor area above the pool deck that measures 600sq.ft. and the pool and pool-deck roughly measure 800 sq. ft. Hop in the pool, get some sun, feel better about life and then relax on one of our lounge chairs or sit back in the shade of our covered deck. See the monkeys go by while losing yourself into the deep green/blue ocean of the quiet/peaceful/gorgeous Bisanz Bay. Relax, sit back, unwind, de-stress and enjoy one of the magnificent ocean views on the planet according to the Ottawa Citizen, which calls the Barba Roja Restaurant (100 meters from the Barba Roja House) 'One of the Top 5 places in the world to watch water.' We are here to help make your vacation stress-free! Ask us about a private chef to dine in, tours and activities in the area, transportation to and from San Jose or other parts of Costa Rica.

Centrally located next to Tulemar Gardens and the Barba Roja Restaurant, everything you will need for your stay is within walking distance: International grocer - 5 minute walk, 8 of the area's top restaurants are within a 5 minute walk, the top four bars on Manuel Antonio are with a 3 minute walk. And the absolute best part, while this house is located close to all of these locals, there is virtually no noise of any sort due to jungle on four sides of the house. Even the secluded Los Altos beach is only a 15-20 minute-downhill walk (careful: uphill will take much longer.

This house is centrally located at the halfway point between the beaches of Manuel Antonio and the town of Quepos. This house is only 130 meters off of the main road, yet is nestled into the jungles of Costa Rica so that all you hear are the sounds of nature. This recently remodeled home is fully furnished and extremely comfortable, and filled with top of the line appliances, as well as teak wood furniture and ceilings, plus a brand new pool and loft to make the house more livable. The pool and outdoor deck and shower were built in Sept of 2011.

There are 3 full bedrooms and a loft. In the NEWEST bedroom (to be ready for use in October 2015) there is 1 king-size bed plus twin twin beds (a day bed with a trundle bed)a separate shower and toilet area. In the Master bedroom there is an amazingly comfortable King-size memory foam mattress along with a private bath remodeled in 2013. The third bedroom has two soft queen-size beds and a newly remodeled bathroom (in 2014) and there are also two twin beds in the loft. The bathrooms are reasonably large and comfortable and all have either been built or remodeled since 2013!

We have also recently added an outdoor shower either to rinse off the sand from your feet when coming back from the beach or to just shower outside!!

The beaches of Manuel Antonio are a 3 minute drive or a 15-20 minute downhill walk (this is the beach on the Los Altos property - the main beaches of Playa Espadilla are a 20-25 minute downhill). We have many guests return year after year because this house MAKES their Costa Rican vacation!!!

About Heather Burt

I moved to Manuel Antonio in Aug of 2004 because I simply fell in love with the delightful Costa Rican people and the convergence of powerful elements all meeting in one place - the mighty Pacific Ocean, the strong sun, the wildness of the jungle, the tropical animals and foods, the strong winds and rains . . . We lived there with our two girls until April of 2012 when we moved back to Florida - and we now long for the days when we get to go and visit Manuel Antonio ourselves. We hope you love Costa Rica as much as we do!

Heather Burt purchased this house in 2004

A perfect spot

  • 5 of 5

Costa Rica did not disappoint and neither did the fabulous home we stayed in. Our vacation was wonderful from the first moment walking down the entrance way into our home away from home and seeing a view that was priceless until the last day when the monkeys traveled across the patio saying good bye

The home is set up perfectly. Early morning coffee on the veranda watching the forest wake up and evening cocktails at the pool watching the sun go down. Roxanne did our laundry everyday and cleaned up the home, she was wonderful. Joshua took care of everything we wanted to do and was always available for questions...this combo is one of the best things about staying here other than the home is perfect!

From the house we walked to the beach everyday. It was a beautiful hike We took the jungle trail and saw sloths, monkeys, iguanas Macaus and other jungle creatures.

At your fingertips there are at least a dozen restaurants one serves fresh pastries and fabulous coffee in the morning.

No need for a car the bus is efficient and quick.

We loved our stay and our home made it the best ever, you won't be disappointed...it is a jewel.

amazing views, gorgeous house,great location!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 6 thoroughly enjoyed our 10 days at Casa Barba Roja. It is a spacious modern clean house with amazing ocean and sunset views. The pool was great to cool off in and our little ones spent a lot of time in there! There was plenty of wildlife to be observed from the property including families of monkeys with the babies clinging to Mamas back, a few resident iguanas and many birds. We even saw a few macaws with their bright red feathers fly overhead. We loved the location. It is down a path from the main street in Manuel Antonio. It is completely quiet at the house but very easy to catch the bus down to Playa Espadilla or a cab to any of the other beaches or the grocery stores in Quepos. The convenience stores near the house are double the price of the stores in Quepos. We did use them occasionally because they were so convenient but it is worth it to take a cab into Quepos and do a big shop there. The bus station in Quepos has a chicken store, meat store and seafood store that offers the best quality, all free range, and cheapest prices. Friday night and Saturday morning there is a market in Quepos with fresh fruits, veggies and local crafts. We also found some amazing racks of lamb from a vendor there who had a freezer case of local lamb. We drank bottled water but used the local water to wash produce and brush teeth and none of us had any problem. Roxanna and her crew come in every morning with a smile to clean the house, make beds, clean the bbq, sweep, mop, clean kitchen, bathrooms, and do any laundry you leave in the laundry hampers. This was an amazing perk and they were very thorough. Josue was available for any concerns and we went on a tour of manuel antonio parc with him which was a memorable part of out trip. There are many great restaurants within walking distance as well. We got lattes at Cafe Milagro across the street every morning. Josue arranged transport to and from the airport for us and that worked out really well. We did not feel like we needed a car, the taxis were cheap and there was the local bus to get to the beach as well. The beaches were amazing! The warmest water I've ever swam in and a sandy sandy bottom. The people of Costa Rica are friendly and we felt very safe at the house and around town. We will be back!

We loved it!

  • 5 of 5

We were here at Casa Barba Roja with a family of nine adults and one three year old, for a week. We all loved it here, and had such a wonderful time! The property was beautiful, nestled right in the jungle with so much wildlife around. The pool was great, and the view was amazing, perfect for sunsets. The house was perfectly suited for us too. It was a treat to have a maid clean up and do laundry for us, and Josue the concierge was a wonderful help with anything we needed, and set up any excursions etc for us. The house was close to the main road, although the property feels very private and secluded from any busyness. The local buses and taxis were right there to bring you anywhere in the area, from the beaches of Manuel Antonio to the harbour or shopping in Quepos, and very inexpensive. What was expensive were the convenience stores near the house, but they were convenient! We took a quick cab ride to Quepos for groceries. We were sad to leave, especially because it was back to the snow. But we can keep the memories of a wonderful week together in a beautiful place!

Great location, awesome pool and view to die for

  • 5 of 5

Would 100% recommend this to all and would stay again in a heartbeat. We had a resident iguana that we fed fruit to in the back and we were visited by friendly capuchin monkeys daily. The AC kept the place very cool and the home had everything needed for a great trip for 10 people. Josue was great as well - not overbearing but always there when you could benefit from a local guide. Ahhhh Pura Vida!

Glorious Views

  • 4 of 5

The location is what makes this so special. You are close to everything but still have privacy. Because of this, it is not suitable for physically

challenged people, especially those who have difficulty walking. The gradual decline and approximately 32 steps to get to the house are not for the faint of heart, especially pulling luggage. The walk back up to get to your pick up location in the restaurant parking lot is quite a haul. One thing I recommend is to pack light. The maid washed our clothes daily and we packed way more than necessary. Although the house has some wear, it is very comfortable and had plenty of room for 12 of us. However, I suggested to our concierge to replace the linens and pillows as they are in awful shape. We expected to hear from our concierge daily by phone to offer his advice or help. We called several times and could never get him to answer. We were disappointed in his lack of response and feel that he has other interests that prevent him from being much help. Fortunately, one in our group spoke SOME Spanish, enough to order a taxi for one of our trips. You will need to bring every item you intend to use for cooking. It would be helpful if the house at least provided basic spices as we spent a lot of money (over $150) and ended up leaving most of what we had to buy. Manual Antonio is a beautiful place with plenty to do close by but don't expect any bargains. Food is extremely expensive at restaurants and at the local quick mart. Yes, this place has an excellent location with beautiful views. But if you believe that you might save some dollars on expenses, you're better off to look elsewhere.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your honest review of our house. I am very surprised by some of your comments as we are VERY conscientious of our towels and sheets and buy a brand new supply just before High Season. We have never had a group say that our towels or linens were in bad shape or needed to be replaced as we are meticulous about those details. I was also quite surprised by your comments about the house not supplying items as we provide, coffee, fruit upon arrival, multiple tea bags, sugar and salt. Suppling any sort of item that has to be refrigderated once opened (such as ketchup, mustard, butter, relish, mayonaise, etc . . . is a health hazard because things go bad and we cannot be assured of tampering. I am also unsure of what spices you could possibly be buying that would cost $150. As for Josue, our concierge, I am truly very sorry that he was not up to his typical standards. Most of guests really appreciate Josue, but it seems that he was not available enough for you and for that I am sorry and will certainly make mention of this to him. Again, thank you for your review. This was helpful information.

The house was great! The location was greater! Down the hill from the public bus, & great restarants

  • 5 of 5

We totally enjoyed our stay at Casa Barba Roja! We took 2 daughters & 4 grandchildren. There are many activities and Josou helped schedule several fun events for all. The pool at the house entertained all and was very relaxing. Roxana cooked a meal for us that was splendid and did a great job keeping up with all the beach towels we used. She came by to clean every day and did laundry for those who wanted it.

The location was intriguing. Isolated but completely accessible to transportation and wonder restaurants!p

Josou provided our transportation, was always available to answer our calls. He was an outstanding guide & a great help.

We loved our stay!
