Cozy, peaceful, and welcoming cabin for weekend getaway

  • 5 of 5

This cabin provided a comfy and cozy destination to reconnect with friends. The cabin is turn key ready to unplug and relax--including wood for the indoor fireplace or outdoor fire pit. A small trail system extends from behind the house, and a public access lakeshore is only a block away. It's an easy drive south to north port and the cabin is only minutes from the lighthouse. We felt completely refreshed after our weekend away.

Owner's Response: Happy to host your weekend with friends the Whispering PInes Cottage exceeded expectations. It's private setting is an ideal respite to recharge and proximity to the village of Northport (and all the other county towns), site and sandy beach are a plus. Please plan a return trip in the spring/summer/fall when we turn greens!

Northport get-away in Peaceful Surroundings!

  • 5 of 5

We planned a last minute trip to Leelanau County, before my son's return to school. Pet friendly, so we could bring our dog on his first vacation. Tom was very responsive at all times - we even ran into him dining in town!! He ensured we had a fantastic time!

Home is very comfortable, and has all the supplies you need. In home laundry really helps with summer trips to the beach! And.....the hot tub - which my son owned and loved- I think he was in it 10 times!! The loft has a bed and half bath, which allowed my son some privacy. Stairs are steep but manageable. Kitchen has been redone - stainless appliances, granite, backsplash - looks totally different from the photos and a pleasant surprise. We found the walking paths behind the house a delight. Walking our dog, back to the path from the house, we meandered our way east to the end of the red trail (comes out on Knollwood), then walked our way back to the north trail and the middle point. If you like walking trails, take the time to enjoy what's right behind you here! Neighborhood very walkable, and people very friendly. Spending time on the Northern part of Leelanau County proved energizing. We found some very quiet and secluded beaches - don't be afraid to drive up and down M22 looking for roads that will lead to Lake Michigan - you won't be disappointed!!! Try to find the beach near Gill's Pier - a slice of heaven. Northport was a nice complement to Glen Arbor - busy in season, but not overburdened with in season visitors. Nice little restaurants that have outdoor seating and are pet friendly (Garage Bar & Grill, Tucker's; Art's in Glen Arbor). Don't miss Barb's Bakery (especially when they have cinnamon twists)! It's a 5 minute drive from the house to the Grand Traverse Lighthouse at the tip of the Leelanau Peninsula - and a wonderful site. Multiple state/county hiking trails within minutes of the house. I can only imagine what the cross-country skiing is like in winter - and with the stone fireplace it would have to be amazing! Don't be fussy about the little things - come and enjoy this little gem in the woods.

Owner's Response: Delighted to meet you at Tucker's in the village and to learn you enjoyed the cottage and surrounding area so much. Your review was spot on and you said it best! Hope you can return in the winter to enjoy the same trails but on cross country skis and return back to the Whispering Pines to the warmth of the hot tub and wood burning fireplace.

A great quiet place to stay for a getaway

  • 5 of 5

Everything was great! The hot tub was wonderful, the fireplace was cozy and I loved the location! Great place if you want a mostly secluded place to get away from your busy life (or for a vacation from wedding planning).

The character of the cabin was very cute however the cleanliness was awful!

  • 1 of 5

I am not one to complain by any means but I was very disappointed in the cleanliness of the cabin. While I understand it was a cabin in the woods and bugs and dirt are to be expected the cabin clearly had not been cleaned well before our arrival. There were several dead flies, spider webs and dirt, leaves and wood chips throughout the cabin. It clearly had not been vaccummed. The mattresses were dirty and the drawers with the silverware in them had dirt in them. I am assuming we may have been the first visitors for the season. Again, I understand we are in the woods but I did not anticipate having to clean the cabin when we arrived. The hot tub had so much chlorine in it that we couldn't use it without coughing and having trouble breathing until Sunday- the hot tub was one of the main reasons I chose the property to rent and the fact it was not useable was frustrating. I spent a lot of money to rent the property and I was extremely frustrated with the condition."

Owner's Response: I strive to provide a memorable experience and occasionally do not meet guest expectations and naturally disappointed to hear your comments about the cottage. Had any issues been made known to me while you were there, they would have been corrected during your visit but I am unable to correct anything when I hear of them days after departure. You had my contact information - why was I not contacted?

Perfect Getaway Spot

  • 4 of 5

My wife and I took a long weekend to explore the area and couldn't have picked a better spot for the trip. We enjoyed the fireplace and hot tub. Also took a hike in the trails directly behind the cabin - it was great. We would definitely stay here again.
