We grew up in the area and took advantage of the recreational activities as children. Wife is a life resident of the area. We moved back to the area after military service and bought a water lot in 1987.

We have a rich history of 100+ years which connects us with the Ohio, Erie and Pennsylvania/Ohio Canals, Delaware Indians, Portage Path, Ohio Dept of Wildlife, Portage Lakes State Park, Connecticut Land Grants, the Western Reserve, prohibition, farming, coal mining and water sports.

Today, most residents living in the area will tell you they live in Portage Lakes which encompasses the cities of New Franklin, Green and Coventry Twp. If a resident tells another Ohio resident they are from Portage Lakes, most will know where you live. When given the official name of your resident city, the majority will have no idea where you live.
During the 1980's and 1990's a transition from weekend cottages to upscale modern homes began. As Carolyn Vogenitz, author of 'Portage Lakes Then & Now' has stated, it became a sardine & caviar look. Many a new upscale home might sit next to a tiny cottage dating back to the early 1900's.
