About Shari Gallery
Grew up in Jacksonville, NC, went to Sweet Briar College, then George Washington University, while working in association publishing and living in Washington DC. Since 1985 when we moved here full time, I have done publications consulting and marketing, freelance web and print design, and taught as an adjunct at a nearby community college. This is in addition to raising 4 children (now grown) with my husband, Phil, a retired naval officer, and operating Almost Heavenly Trees and Greenery, a Christmas tree business (we retail in Alexandria, VA). It is a cobbled-together existence that has been interesting as well as satisfying. Offspring are sprinkled around the world, from a son just about to finish the London Business School after the Naval Academy and 6 years active duty; another in San Diego working for a small tech company after finishing 6 years of Naval service after graduating from Duquesne University and NROTC. Our daughter who graduated from WVU is wrapping up a Peace Corps tour in Azerbaijan and plans to teach there for another year, and her twin sister, graduate of Shepherd University, is preparing to become a personal trainer specializing in helping cancer survivors regain their fitness. I helped found the local arts council (and serve as concerts chair/webmaster/treasurer), chamber of commerce, and visitors bureau, and for 17 years worked for the WV state travel guide (so I know a lot about the area and the state).
Shari Gallery purchased this House in 1982
Why Shari Gallery chose Augusta
We moved from downtown Washington, DC, to the glorious hills of West Virginia after building our own home from scratch and starting a Christmas tree farm. We designed and built Just Far Enough Getaway in 1991 for my mother-in-law after she had a stroke, and were blessed to have 12 years with her there. Not wanting to sell or have long-term renters, we decided to expand our network of friends by hosting visitors for short-term stays. We've enjoyed getting to know folks from all sorts of places, including England, Ireland, Germany, Alaska, California, Chile, Alabama, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, North and South Carolina, Florida, Kentucky, Tennesee, and Ohio, all over West Virginia, as well as the DC/MD/VA area. We love meeting new folks (and welcoming return guests). If, however, you want to enjoy your privacy, our house is far enough across the wide lawn to allow you that seclusion, yet close enough if needed.
What makes this House unique
Peaceful, quiet, comfortable--a great place to truly relax. It is 'just far enough' away from the hustle bustle, but close enough to easily take advantage of a multitude of enjoyments--from historic and wonderful natural sites, to hiking, golf, fishing, skiing. Fairs and festivals, live music and theater are often available in the surrounding area. Amble along the rural road with lovely vistas including peach orchards, or wander among the Christmas trees down the hill. Take a nap in the hammock in the back yard or gather with friends and family on the deck for a cookout. We have had many guests who met up here as a mid-way point between far-flung family members or friends (we even had a lady from Alaska bring her mother from Arizona and reunite with a cousin from North Carolina here!) Others have come for a romantic getaway (one guest recently surprised her fiancé for his birthday).

The cabin and accommodations were exactly what we wanted and needed. We will be back.
Nice cabin in the woods
Good option in an area where there is very little to pick from. Very rural.
This is a lovely setting not far from Romney. Cozy cottage, extra touches and amenities—Shari and Phil had paper products, condiments, soaps, spices, etc. available. Liked having gas grill! Delicious well water. Second bathroom sink area is narrow. Mattresses could be more comfortable—especially on twin beds.
Wonderful & Peaceful
The cabin was very clean and well maintained. All my expectations were met and more. Hampshire County is a quiet & peaceful place to vacation and relax. My wife & I had a wonderful vacation and would recommend to anyone looking for a quiet, peaceful vacation, just far enough away from city life.
Enjoyable stay. except for shower in 2nd bathroom, the water came out very slow. We took 2 blow up mattresses for my granddaughters. Enjoyed the large living room and the help for a flat tire on one vehcile from the owner.
Happy to help with the tire and will look into that slow faucet. Thanks for pointing it out.
Lovely getaway! Would come back again. Thanks!
Day privileges at the local wellness center affords access to indoor pool. City pool in Romney open during summer. Kayaking and canoeing available on the South Branch of the Potomac River. Guided hikes at Ice Mountain National Natural Landmark/Nature Conservancy Preserve by appointment. Lots of Civil War history in the area, as well as French and Indian War era sites.
