Scenic Mountain Views

Great location and beautiful cabin. Everything we needed for our stay. Multiple decks with screened gazebo and separate screened in porch with hot tub. Loved waking up to the mountain views!

Everything I hoped for.

The view of the mountains was remarkable. The resort was quiet, well kept, and the staff was friendly and helpful. It made for a true vacation away from my busy work life.

great relaxing stay

views were great and the hot tub was used frequently! liked having plenty of towels and even some forgotten spices. wasn't lacking in anyway. house was recommended to us so Im glad we listened.

The pictures do not do it justice. It is a beautiful, inviting and serene place. We went to celebrate my friend’s birthday and We loved it!

Perfect little getaway

This place is amazing! What a perfect place to get away and relax. Enjoyed just sitting on the porch and taking in the beautiful view. The road up to the cabin is very steep, narrow and have a few blind corners so take caution and go slow. Other than that, this place is perfect!

Fantastic as always

2nd time staying here and it was as fantastic as it was the 1st time. Beautiful view, very quiet, home is very inviting. Will 100% come back a 3rd, 4th, 5th etc... time.

Thanksgiving getaway

This was our second Thanksgiving at Happy Trails and our third stay. As always it is amazing. All of the right touches for a nice quiet get away. One note for folks who might be hikers like we are, bring some super bright clothing for post Thanksgiving hikes as there were a lot of occupied deer blinds along the trail, but we were still able to safely hike everyday. We enjoyed the hot tub, grill, and view and the kitchen was well equipped to cook a full Thanksgiving dinner.

The Happy Trails Cabin was spacious, clean, had a wonderful view, and allowed us to experience a much needed Holiday rest. Would definitely return.

Beautiful Cabin but isolated location.

As previous reviewers have said, this is a beautiful cabin with great views from the covered balcony. The cabin was spotless and the decor was interesting. However, the cabin is located in the middle of nowhere. It is a one hour roundtrip to find groceries and if you want a nice meal in a restaurant, it is a two hour roundtrip to Boone or Blowing Rock with difficult roads if you attempt to drive in the dark. The wineries are at least a two hour roundtrip. If the isolation is not a concern to you, this cabin is a great choice and cannot be faulted. We, however enjoy exploring local restaurants and wineries and this is a problematic base for exploring.

Super Clean Relaxing Stay

This cabin is perfect for a couple or small family getaway. Super clean with awesome views from the back deck. We loved the hot tub and the gas grill was very convenient. The master bathroom has an amazing shower. The kitchen was well stocked and had grill tools. Only things you need to bring are your choice of paper products and toiletries with your other personal belongings. Gas for the grill is provided. The only thing we missed was a fire pit but it was a great stay. A word of caution - if you are trying to go to Boone or get on the parkway from the cabin, one of the roads on the provided map (I believe is Triplett road) turns from paved to gravel in several spots without warning. We visited on a dry week so it was fine but most roads do have some type of warning sign.

Mountain Escape

Beautiful mountain home in Blue Ridge Mountains. This home is deep and high up into the leatherwood resort. The resort has everything you would need. We stayed in Happy Trails Cabin. There are many different names rentals and they are situated throughout hundreds of acres. If you are a first time traveler to this area keep in mind it takes a long time to go anywhere. Your gps may say 16 miles. But over the mountains and through the woods can take 45 minutes to an hour. My GPS worked well and we used WAZE. From the bottom of the resort to our cabin was a good 12-15 minutes. I would most definitely stop on way in to get essentials and then maybe make a day out of going to the store. They have a pool and playground for kids and we took a family trail ride. You couldn’t want for anything here. Restaurant on site is only open Friday Sat Sunday. Not sure if they would have a need for it but it would be great to have it open all week long seeing as there are no really food establishments near by. We would definitely go back!

Great mountain weekend!

We were looking for a long weekend to spend in the mountains, with a great view, hot tub and some snow activities for our family (with 5-year old) and this house was perfect! The view is spectacular, and hot tub was clean and worked great after some winter activities. There was even a pretty good sledding hill near the visitor center. Hawksnest for tubing and Blowing Rock were about an hour away, but pretty drives nonetheless.

Eleven days at Happy Trails

Rating Details: The property manager was adequately helpful. The vacation rental was somewhat dirty. I was somewhat unhappy with the location. I was satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Good points: Great view; good bed; plenty of privacy; adequate equipment (but no wine glasses!).Not so good points: Needs a thorough top to bottom cleaning e.g. the stair runners are so dusty they belched dust when hit with luggage; the hot tub could be warmer; needed more bath towels. The main complaints were with the information about activities and location: the gate was being repaired so only ONE day in eleven was horseback riding available; the 'stream was about 6 inches deep so not possible to go tubing; the swimming pool was small and basically the size for children; the whole place Leatherwood and the cabin is very isolated and times to get anywhere close as given were 25-30% underestimated; the staff though friendly answered pretty much every question with "I don't know"; this was not however followed with "I'll find out". Overall the stay was disappointing.
